@@Ruinwyn that annoyed me more than im willing to admit tbh. like thats the best you could come up with for a video? really? she couldnt even do a little jig? just stand around and catwalk with a dead expression? at least kesha had dancing and showmanship, this is hollow
Charli is also a frequent wearer of balenciaga and front row guest at the shows…. I don’t think we can look at celebrities as beacons in general, but to expect the k fueled raver girl to be a model citizen is silly. The Ozempic to plus size fashion resale market pipeline seems interesting but the inverse is alarming. A lot of brands that jumped on the inclusive sizing trend a few years ago have been dazing out the upper sizing and citing low sales.
loool true, i’d just hoped that she might have even gone with an obscure / indie label rather than one of the worst mainstream brands 😢 oh definitely, we need to keep an eye on how this impacts the plus size market and brands going back on there promises from a few years ago
When I was a kid in the 00s I remember thinking that the decade didn’t really have a ‘style’ like the 70s/80s. I thought we just dressed neutrally/normally and there wasn’t anything particular about it! And I remember talking to my mum about it and she said the exact same thing about the 80s, they just thought they dressed normally, not in an exaggerated defined way like previous generations. I think in 10 years, we’ll have a really defined idea of what 2020s fashion was.
I was a young adult around that time and I feel the the same. We just wore clothes, it didn't register as 'fashion' with me. They were certain items like Levi's jeans and Dr. Martens/Converse I remember having been particularly popular. But otherwise, the only people who seemed to have a distinctive style, seemed to have been the ones leaning goth or punk or such.
I think the sole fact of quantifying a microtrend enough to give it a name is what makes it cringe. Before social media, if you just dressed in, idk, silky blues and corsets, you just dressed like yourself, no one called it mermaidcore. The lack of an overarching decade esthetic is directly related to this too - if no one engaged with microtrends, we would have a fighting chance at a general look.
like how I never thought anyone would romanticise 2010 fashion that I wore as a young teenager and see as cringe but ppl are trying to bring back, are we gonna be seeing ppl pulling archive Shein in 20 years 🥴
@@katierobinsonI think whatever esthetic crystallizes from 2020s will still be driven by designer, not SHEIN. Longevity aside, slop from any decade rarely makes the cut
I think this decade will be one that there will be few items left for museums 2 hundred years from now. Like it will exist, but the fast fashion stuff will be mostly existing in landfills lmao
I may not know Charli well but I'm not at all surprised by her partnering with a fast fashion brand. These people are always selling something, they're always co-opting fringe movements (at the very surface level mind you) with little attention to their core tenets and no care to actually live by them. They care more for profit at the end of the day and understanding that makes their moves less shocking for me.
Ngl sometimes I do buy fast fashion secondhand because it’s not ALL bad (depending on the condition, lots of people will have only worn it once or not at all) and I feel better doing that while spending a fraction of the price rather than buying it firsthand, plus reduces landfill. I do not buy from any fast fashion brands firsthand. Also, Charli collabing with H&M does cheapen the “BRAT” image but I’m guessing the bag was too big to resist 😢
Absolutely! My mum kept a lot of the clothes she bought from brands like Warehouse, H&M, Kookai, New Look etc in the 90s and early 00s, and I wear them now! I also thrift a lot of vintage fast fashion from that era - the quality and construction of the garments were completely different back then. The clothes are still holding up really well. She also has original vintage from the 70s going all the way back to the 1920s/30s, and apart from sometimes some minor amendments they're still in good condition
Secondhand September! I finally just replaced my sad dead faux leather handbag with a secondhand genuine leather bag from Thredup. I love it and it will last much longer than the last one!
I'm not explicitly a fan of Charli XCX, but I did used to listen to her music a lot when she first came onto scene in the early-mid 2010s. She's always been an It girl and super trendy, so it doesn't surprise me tbh that she collaborated with H&M (unfortunately) 😭
The Museum of Rural English Life is known for their light-hearted approach to social media. A few years ago they challenged other museums to post their best duck-related objects in a twitter duck war 😊
I wouldn't worry too much. When I (an older millennial) was young in the early '00s I thought exactly the same. It felt like fashion would not truly change anymore, it felt like everyone in contemporary fashion looked kind of the same. I am sure that in 20 years gen Alpha will look back just like you do now and like I did towards the '80s and '90s.
so far the only big trends that i think might remind us of 2020s later on are baggy jeans and flowy pants, and the comeback of low rise. white dresses or a white skirt might also become a typical piece of this decade, i see those a lot on people irl and online. especially the skirt seems to fit in many ppl’s style. all in all, it’s hard to pinpoint and i’m curious to see how it’ll be viewed by us in the future! thanks for another fun video, i enjoyed its podcasty vibes a lot ♥️
@@alka2907 oh u might be right about the white skirts and baggy pants, a lot of our generation have played with gender fluid dressing which might be our legacy!! ah gld u enjoyed tysm for watching 🫶
You’re so right the long white tiered skirt is everywhere. I also think maybe like hoodies could be a staple of the generation I feel like comfort is such a huge aspect of 2010s/2020s fashion
I'm not sure one can definitively say that this era won't have a defined, recognizable style. I get what you're saying, fast fashion (especially the ultra fast fashion we have now) and online shopping have given people more ability to wear whatever styles they want, and trends move so fast that we can't keep track of them. But it's always hard to define an era while we're living in that era. People were saying the same thing in the 2000s and 2010s, that there was no defined fashion, but now we can look back and see that. I'm willing to bet that in 10 or 15 years, we will be able to look back on some of these outfits and say "That is so 2020s". With how popular "-core" is, perhaps themed outfits will mark the 2020s? I think what will define the era is a style that is popular and lasts long enough to be emblematic, but doesn't last so long that it becomes a staple of the next era as well.
so very true about not being able to define whilst you're in it!!! and I love the idea that themes will be our aesthetic, tbf as the generation given the most access to clothes and popular styles at once it makes sense that we might be defined for dressing up . great comment!!!
I agree that they are the cringiest generation. I imagine it’ll be seen as a moment when oil is finally about to go out of fashion on a society level and so fast fashion was the indicator of how disposable stuff is cheap, gross, lame, and we were literally wearing trash and pollution. Sort of like when steam power etc led to manufacturing really made mass-produced clothing and invention of denim etc.
Earlier this year, I found the most beautiful black lace dress in a charity shop for £10. It almost looks like a black wedding dress, it's gorgeous. It's my favourite charity shop find thus far!
I think, that we will see more niches in fashion. Some influencers settling with "classic, slower consumption" and on the other hand "fast spending, trending" with a lot clearer lines between groups. Handcrafting clothes, upcycling instead of buying new. Groups will form, and algorithms will keep people in them.
oooh I could definitely see this happening, algorithms are already really warping our sense of reality online and it's hard to know what's happening outside of ur echo chamber so I can definitely see both sides of the internet just staying completely clear of each other!
omg 100% cashmere is a steal, I would have snapped it up too!! but the idea of taking care of it would have made me pause actually, I've had one too many mishaps with wool so now I'm extra cautious 😅
@@katierobinsoni think this is why someone wanted to part ways with it, when they realized how gently you need to hand wash these items 😂 but i don’t mind doing it and since we have cold and dry winters, giving these garments air by hanging them out in the freezing air also helps with not having to constantly wash them. 🤝
I also really wish there was s box you could tick to filter out day fashion but i just don't think it would work logistically. That being said I wish you could exclude brands from a search the way some platforms let you select brands to include. Like i just never want to see shein stuff in my searches, or sometimes I will search for linen tops and know old navy stuff that is 90% polyester 10% linen will pop up so i just exclude old navy for that search in particular.
my personal opinion but i feel like gen z doesn't have a style or aesthetic problem, you have an identity problem. you don't know what you stand for except for whatever is trending at the time -- whether it's fashion, social movements, or media and technology. gen z by far has the worst consumption problem of any generation, but that is not just because you like stuff, but because stuff is so much easier to get nowadays. gen z are lonely, alone, and seeking comfort in whatever way you can find it by joining the In Group of the moment, hoping that you'll get social approval becuase you're doing The Right Thing. but it's not about doing the right thing; it's about cultivating values that are true to yourself and knowing what you stand for beyond the trends. honestly gen z would be a lot better off if you just deleted all social media for a year and got in touch with yourself without other people's opinions. but i say that as a youtuber who posts on social media for the approval of others, so what do i know.
agree with so much of this. ik we get blamed a lot for being the worst with overconsumption and we are v bad but there are studies to show millennials are actually similar if not worse, but other than that I think ur dead on. tysm for putting all this into words!!
@@katierobinson no you're totally right, i think i misspoke. it's not just gen z who are overconsuming, millennials definitely are too. what i meant to say is that it's just SO MUCH EASIER now to overconsume than it was say in the early 2000s when i was growing up. i didn't have a smartphone until 2011 and i didn't know how to use internet banking until like 2016. i would buy things online occasionally but most of the stuff i bought was what i could carry home from the shops. now i have to physically stop myself from overspending on things i don't need. it's terrible!
As a Millennial/GenZ cusp, I notice GenZ is doing way less DIY & personalized styling. I saw way more girls making their own ribbed t-shirts, distressed jeans, and other clothing mods when I was a teen.
The difference was obvious when flared jeans started to trend. In the 90's when skinny and straight turned to flared, there was a significant time when wedged jeans were the most common. Those were jeans that had a wedge of other fabric added to them to make them flared. I did not see those at all during the more resent transition. "Upcycling" wasn't a hobby or trend. It was just what people did.
i’ve started noticing a lot of “fashion” influencers are now not only just getting to do promos for fashion brands but also now things like electrical items like ninja , flights/travel with airlines - a lot of the autumn trends (trench coats, burgundy fashion items etc) are things we’ve seen before so makes sense why things are made so cheaply to not last until the next same season so people can replace it again
To me, brat girl was just the antithesis of the clean girl, both the boring aesthetic as well as the holier-than-thou grwm videos. As such, I found it quite refreshing. Edit: As a millenial, the look that comes to mind for me it bum bags worn cross body and oversize styles. Sure, there are a lot of micro trends going on, but those are the main two things, lol.
I would consider “ pajama generation “ as the main look. Loose baggy oversized, slippers, uggs, birks. Barrel curls ( like you just took curlers out of your hair. Bedroom chic?
I am as shocked as you when you said charli collab with hm 🙃 we were all clown in this. I'm pretty sure this was planned many months, if not years... this kinda deal wasn't happening in fortnight. at least 1 year in the making. I don't follow charli music but perhaps during her album announcement, hm took the opportunity for the collaboration proposal. I knew this would lead to something else bcos we have not receive any music related trend (at least in my bubble 😂) so this brat summer a sudden hit is very interesting. after all it's all about money. ps. love this brain dump type of video when you go candid. sometimes unscripted video is nice too ❤
oooh maybe, i have no clue how long these kinds of things take tbf but it seems weird with what she said at the beginning about not needing anything 🥴 glad you enjoyed!!!!
I totally believe that sustainability has something to do with Ganni not being at Cphfw. As a Danish girlie myself who live in Copenhagen and used to be in to Ganni, the brand just isn't exiting anymore. I had a conversation with a friend like a year ago about how we used to look forward to the season release and their next new trend ect. but then Ganni started producing loads of new items all year round and the quality just wasn't the same. The production of the clothes was delegated to lower paid counties and the production quantity just went up. There was no more looking forward to the next collection because the new items already released the next month. I still have a lot of the clothes that I hold on to because it's something you can't get anywhere anymore and the items are identifiable by that period in time they dropped. Like my own little time capsule. Danish girls still do buy Ganni but now it's just another kinda expensive brand
oooh this is interesting, I also kinda feel they've lost their cult status as they've grown (which is obvs normal) but I hate how hard it is for brands to reject growth for growths sake and therefore leave behind what made them cult in the first place, if that makes sense? would love to hear more about ur vintage (lol) Ganni collection, it sounds like you might have some amazing pieces!
my wellness routine is dinner while listening to katie chatting or exposing the fast fashion industry edit: I don't think gen z has a distinct style because, and I heard this from another video, we're going through a post-modernist era. Everything is very open within art, music and fashion, so a lot is blending together in all areas. Clairo's Charm sounds like it's straight from the 70s, Brat is very 00s but also 2020s at the same time... everything kind of incoherent right now, so I think that's why we try and follow an 'aesthetic' or blend them to claim them as our own - rather than there being an overall style en-masse. on your algorithm thoughts... omg absolutely. My yt premium recently got cancelled (because VPN, oop) and the amount of ads has become so jarring, especially with how catered they are. We know the internet, but the internet knows us more...
omg the highest honour is being the video ppl watch with food, this is serious business 😅 oooh this definitely makes sense, i wonder when it might end and when we enter the next clearly defined era what it might be🤨
*Add on - Ganni actually has a 3/5 sustainability rating on Good On You so doesn't have the highest sustainability rating on the website compared to other brands, but I'm not sure how comprehensive their rating system is...
yeah I'm honestly not sure exactly how well Ganni are doing with sustainability, what I like about them is their transparency and how frequently they embrace new ideas, services, materials to push forward sustainable fashion - Good on You have a pretty good measurement as far as i know and I usually use them as a base guide for a brand's sustainability before doing research, they are affiliate based tho so I normally keep that in mind! 🫶
I din’t buy stuff that often, but I recently went to a flea market, where I got a pair of jeans that fit amazing and are super comfortable, a nice jean jacket and 3 thick knit hoodies (one of them looking similar to the gilmore girls one). All that for less than 50€, and they are all good quality. On top of that, I’ve been casually searching for one of those white cable knit sweaters and a jean jacket for multiple years now and I’ve only ever seen low quality or cropped versions in fast fashion stores, all while costing 50€+, which is just not a price I want to pay for something I don’t even really like, so I’m very happy about it
Regarding the second hand websites: I think honestly it’s not that hard if you can specify which brands you want to see, they’re also able to make a function where you can select which brands you want to filter out.
I'm not a big fashion person in the fact I recognize trends. I know when an outfit looks artistic, comfortable, or stylish, but I do not know alot of trends you mentioned. I watch UA-cam because I am curious about what the heck is going on with fashion drama on a slightly less surface level knowledge and I love the content you post. From my perspective, dark academia, cottagecore, and other popular aesthetics starting around lockdown is what Gen z will be known for. Including other things like vans, Lululemon and nikes. Cardigans, especially flower crochet cardigans, bucket hats, frogs and mushrooms, and doc martens. This is what I think of for gen z fashion even if these are outdated or not. Not because these were all I see online but because I went to high school, and these are what teens would wear. I don't have tiktok, twitter, or instagram. I rely on youtubers and their self reflection of what they see on the internet and the topic they are researching (I greatly appreciate this!). I wonder if there is a way to separate accounts when you do research videos. Have one account for personal use and one for research/job purposes. That way, influencer stuff goes on the job account, and fun entertainment goes on the personal account (?)
love these thoughts, I think you're right about what we'll be remembered for as those have been massive stand out trends for gen z!! and yh I'll definitely be creating a separate account after seeing a lot of ppl recommend it, idk why I didn't think of it before haha 🫠
I think as you get older, you will realize there where looks and trends that defined the time. It's a matter of perspective, and it happens to everyone.
i feel like this gen is gonna be defined by shitty fast fashion that falls apart at the seams, bbl cut out dresses, and shitty ridiculous micro-trends, but thats my cynical younger genz take on it
Early and late decade trends are always different. Early 2020's trend (which is what we can already recognise) is loose and generally oversized, cropped pants and shirts but mainly high-waisted. Athleasure. Mostly muted colours. Natural hair, preferably curly. That wasn't very hard. Microtrends aren't anything but a seasonal print or colour, sometimes a subculture style.
I have never looked at a T*mu haul, but they must be so overwhelming that they pop up in my feed anyhow. I‘m also getting fall trend videos, although admittedly they are are more the kind of „how to find fall trends in your wardrobe“ or „how to deal with autumn trends as a plus 50/60 or size person“. ) have kept old magazines from the 1990s that tried to make sense of the runways and even at the time they struck me as mere abstractions, because by that time fashion could no longer dictate, merely suggest what to wear.
I get Temu stuff on my feed all the time bc I'm always reading articles about them, never mind the fact the articles are always on how bad they are 😭 if the algorithm wants to be so invasive It should at least be smart about whether u like a brand or are just interested in their downfall lol
I feel like gen z fashion is just everything but skinny jeans, lol. It’s been fun as a millennial to see clothes I wore as a teen become favored by the younger generation. The thing is you all label aesthetics too much. There’s all these “cores” that call back to a certain time period but what’s gen-z core?
exactly what I'm saying!! gen z core is so hard to pinpoint and someone said it's always hard to define when you're living in the time, but we've just popularised so many different styles there's no ultimate trend that was biggest side note I'm never going back to skinny jeans again, if gen z fashion did one thing right it's popularising other styles 😭
I cant believe that someone ltry expressed what i was thinking for the past few months, the algorithm fear. I keep avoiding everything that has a potential of trying to influence and sell me sth. 😢❤
h&m is the most trying to be better cheap fashion brand in my opinion, thus, it is logical, in my opinion, to collaborate with them out of all of other fast fashion brand. This allows to send the message to all the brands to prioritise sustainability because that’s what pays off. It would be hard to send that message without rewarding those brands who try the most at the moment, even tho, of course they should try harder. But again, we need to reward them along the way in their sustainability journey.
interesting, what gives you the impression they're trying harder to be better than Zara, say? and tbf im not sure who I would pick as more sustainable between the two!
I totally get what you say about the algorithm. It such a time-consuming job to train it: click on this, don’t click on that and then you click on one cat video by accident and get served weeks of cat content
literally, it's like a constant thought in my head and I get irrationally angry when I think it might be messed up bc of how long it will take to fix 😭
Purchasing second hand fast fashion helps keep it out of the landfill and doesn't really support fast fashion. Also, there is a lot of poor quality fast fashion for sure, but i personally have a few forever21 sweaters (most 100% cotton, but some synthetic blends) that I bought second hand and still have in my wardrobe several years later and they ate in good condition. Again i would acknowledge that some of fast fashion disposability is due to poor quality, or being impracticality trendy, but i think some of it is the purchasers attitude. If a fast fashion item makes it to the second hand market still in good condition, i think that is a sign that the quality of the garment might actually be decent, and if you choose to care for the item, and like the style of it for you, regardless of purchase price or being from a fast fashion brand, they can be a sustainable choice for a wardrobe.
About the algorithm showing you stuff you don't want to see after researching: Why don't just just make a seperate account for all platorms you watch this, and only use those for researching? Or at youtube, simply log out and use a private window :)
haha I JUST saw someone else's comment saying the same thing and I'm definitely gonna do it, but the fact we have to have these steps in place is still super annoying 💀 tysm for the tip tho!!
Your concerns about the algorithm are why I have what is effectively a burner account on UA-cam that I only use to search for specific stuff I don't want on my regular account (and I use it on a different browser so I don't have to log out of my main account on my regular browser), and my main account is carefully curated specifically for my normal viewing. Mildly exhausting, but worth it to keep things like Nikocado Avocado off of my main feed ( I got curious once and managed 5 whole minutes before I said "I have seen five more minutes worth of this than I really ever needed to.".)
You can "circumvent your algorithm" on YT by making multiple channels for yourself (including ones for your work etc.), you can do that within 1 account/mail address. I have ADHD and before I knew this trick, my account algorithm didn't get it that after 2 weeks or within the same day I canceled all the suggested videos that I wasn't interested in at the moment. It annoyed me greatly, because my interests pingpong all over the place, but my algorithm didn't. E.g. one minute I am watching a documentary about Mars rovers, the next time I'm watching a knitting video... but I confused my algorithm with this hahaha, it started showing me random nonsense. I have at least 5 different channels now with their own specific algorithms and niches, it's an eyeopener. It also prevents from getting into a bubble.
omg why didn't I think of this, I might have to have a brain dump account for all my socials and keep my main ones clean 😭 tysm for the tip!!! also, I feel u with how quickly my interests ping pong around, like yesterday I may have been interested in a 40minute deep dive on America's food industry but I definitely don't want to do that today so pls don't show me that 💀
Not keen on downgrading fast fashion brands on resale sites. Better that they be purchased and re-worn than to end up polluting Southern Hemisphere countries. It also reduces demand for new pieces from those stores. There have been plenty of recent scandals about ‘high end’ brands manufacturing expensive pieces on the cheap in fast fashion conditions. Look for materials and style descriptions, or bougey brand names if that’s what you care about. It’s a fantasy that designer pieces are made in significantly better conditions than fast fashion: the markup covers expensive retail, advertising and top brass pay, not workers. Buy quality regardless of brand name and extend the life of existing garments.
about the algorithm -- could you use a different account? you can easily switch accounts on youtube and twitter, not sure if it's the same on other platforms
also i feel you. the algorithm works FAST. my wife and i were in the drive through for food, and we noticed a new item on the menu. i mentioned it to her, we chatted about it for a minute, and then my wife opened her phone. literally the first thing she saw on her feed was an ad for the item. it's so SCARY
I’m sorry for the long comment 😂 Gen z aesthics and style options just I don’t know it’s like there’s something new every year for people’s style and I maybe gen z but I’ve just found things that elevate my style along with my age I just entered my twenties and even tho I’m 21 I’ve been transitioned from like late teenager to young woman and I’m going back to what I really wanted to wear what tumblr girls were in 2014 and I’m a mix of all of them but also I have my style which isn’t specifically bc it isn’t anything I just like older things and I’ve gotten more compliments and love from transitioning to the other side and I’ve been making my own graphics on shirts and clothing and people don’t even know I made it and that’s what gets me the most exposure for so using what I’m going to school for and expressing my style and interests it really pays off and I do like that there isn’t one thing in like the 2010s / 2020s I’m glad to see diversity but people really should see what their bodies offer and what works and what doesn’t I did a color analysis and asked what looks good for me and literally I got winter and the colors are the colors I’ve been drew to for all my life and the stuff that works for my body I gravitate towards so yeah I just wish people would leave the trends currently and figure out there self and what works and what don’t ❤

On the other hand, there's SO MUCH of it and a lot of these items get worn less often, so there's a possibility that more of it survives.
I mean... there's almost-literal mountains of them and so much of it is plastic. I think the problem is there's too much of it that will survive.
@@StarlightPrism most of it will survive but most of it won't be relevant.
@@ZenzoSezSo wish this wasn’t the case, i hate that what seemed like a genuine trend towards anti capitalism was ruined in the end 😭
At this rate can we say that brat summer was anti-capitalist when it was all to promote an album
Also, Charli collabing with H&M does cheapen the “BRAT” image but I’m guessing the bag was too big to resist 😢
oh so do i!! sometimes there’s no other choice for whatever reason and as long as ur consciously consuming then it’s fine!
I love it and it will last much longer than the last one!
love this for you!!!!
Fashion is not an island; it’s a response.
true!!
i agree, as human beings nothing exists in a vacuum.
Cash grab for both her and H & M. Sad. Fast fashion has ruined style. It changes way too fast now.
@@flohough1870 wish she’d chosen another brand that felt a bit more on brand to BRAT :(
True 😢 and since it also copies genuine great ideas, it cheapens the look and everyone gets sick of them after seeing everyone wearing that
I'm not explicitly a fan of Charli XCX, but I did used to listen to her music a lot when she first came onto scene in the early-mid 2010s. She's always been an It girl and super trendy, so it doesn't surprise me tbh that she collaborated with H&M (unfortunately) 😭
oh fair enough, I trust your opinion more than mine who's literally only listened to her most popular songs once or twice!!
Why can’t we just wear what we like (trendy or not) and not have to name it? Everything doesn’t have to be some kind of “core”.
Plenty of people do that, they just don't talk about it because they don't need to.
just not as marketable for social media 😢
The Museum of Rural English Life is known for their light-hearted approach to social media. A few years ago they challenged other museums to post their best duck-related objects in a twitter duck war 😊
@@catherineh8260 haha good to know, i was so confused 😭
I wouldn't worry too much. When I (an older millennial) was young in the early '00s I thought exactly the same. It felt like fashion would not truly change anymore, it felt like everyone in contemporary fashion looked kind of the same. I am sure that in 20 years gen Alpha will look back just like you do now and like I did towards the '80s and '90s.
can definitely see this being the case!! it’s always hard to try understand how well feel in the future about something happening now 😅
so far the only big trends that i think might remind us of 2020s later on are baggy jeans and flowy pants, and the comeback of low rise. white dresses or a white skirt might also become a typical piece of this decade, i see those a lot on people irl and online. especially the skirt seems to fit in many ppl’s style. all in all, it’s hard to pinpoint and i’m curious to see how it’ll be viewed by us in the future!
thanks for another fun video, i enjoyed its podcasty vibes a lot ♥️
@@alka2907 oh u might be right about the white skirts and baggy pants, a lot of our generation have played with gender fluid dressing which might be our legacy!!
ah gld u enjoyed tysm for watching 🫶
Baggy jorts with loafers and a cropped button up or graphic shirt honestly is the 2020's image I think of personally.
@@chelseashurmantine8153 v plausible, we’ll be the plastic fashion generation 😭
Just thrifted a 100 % cashmere knit. It was Zara and that fact made me almost leave it a the shop, but happy i got it. Cause it’s gonna be cold soon 😅
omg 100% cashmere is a steal, I would have snapped it up too!! but the idea of taking care of it would have made me pause actually, I've had one too many mishaps with wool so now I'm extra cautious 😅
Like i just never want to see shein stuff in my searches, or sometimes I will search for linen tops and know old navy stuff that is 90% polyester 10% linen will pop up so i just exclude old navy for that search in particular.
yes being able to exclude brands would work!! but i suppose u would still have to verify whether a brand is fast fashion or not if you don’t know it 😢
my personal opinion but i feel like gen z doesn't have a style or aesthetic problem, you have an identity problem. you don't know what you stand for except for whatever is trending at the time -- whether it's fashion, social movements, or media and technology. gen z by far has the worst consumption problem of any generation, but that is not just because you like stuff, but because stuff is so much easier to get nowadays. gen z are lonely, alone, and seeking comfort in whatever way you can find it by joining the In Group of the moment, hoping that you'll get social approval becuase you're doing The Right Thing. but it's not about doing the right thing; it's about cultivating values that are true to yourself and knowing what you stand for beyond the trends. honestly gen z would be a lot better off if you just deleted all social media for a year and got in touch with yourself without other people's opinions. but i say that as a youtuber who posts on social media for the approval of others, so what do i know.
agree with so much of this. ik we get blamed a lot for being the worst with overconsumption and we are v bad but there are studies to show millennials are actually similar if not worse, but other than that I think ur dead on. tysm for putting all this into words!!
I saw way more girls making their own ribbed t-shirts, distressed jeans, and other clothing mods when I was a teen.
oh this is interesting bc i had the impression upcycling / personalising is really high amongst my generation!! but maybe in less obvious ways?
Yeah, I'm also not in school or university anymore so I have a smaller pool of Gen Z I interact with. I could be very skewed

Danish girls still do buy Ganni but now it's just another kinda expensive brand
oooh this is interesting, I also kinda feel they've lost their cult status as they've grown (which is obvs normal) but I hate how hard it is for brands to reject growth for growths sake and therefore leave behind what made them cult in the first place, if that makes sense? would love to hear more about ur vintage (lol) Ganni collection, it sounds like you might have some amazing pieces!
my wellness routine is dinner while listening to katie chatting or exposing the fast fashion industry
edit: I don't think gen z has a distinct style because, and I heard this from another video, we're going through a post-modernist era.

Great video! My favorite thrift(eBay) find this month so far is a pair of real snakeskin Roberto Cavalli pants. I can’t wait to wear them.

tysm!!! really appreciate it 🫶
I'm not a big fashion person in the fact I recognize trends.
It's a matter of perspective, and it happens to everyone.
i feel like this gen is gonna be defined by shitty fast fashion that falls apart at the seams, bbl cut out dresses, and shitty ridiculous micro-trends, but thats my cynical younger genz take on it
literally how I feel lol, we've got to try turn it around fast before this becomes our permanent legacy 😭
What would be ideal is they have a tick for fast fashion and you can add to the fast fashion filter yourself with a manually entered company name.
ooh yh like making non fast fashion the default 😭
There’s all these “cores” that call back to a certain time period but what’s gen-z core?
exactly what I'm saying!! gen z core is so hard to pinpoint and someone said it's always hard to define when you're living in the time, but we've just popularised so many different styles there's no ultimate trend that was biggest
side note I'm never going back to skinny jeans again, if gen z fashion did one thing right it's popularising other styles 😭
I cant believe that someone ltry expressed what i was thinking for the past few months, the algorithm fear. I keep avoiding everything that has a potential of trying to influence and sell me sth. 😢❤
ok so i'm not alone good to know!!!!!
h&m is the most trying to be better cheap fashion brand in my opinion, thus, it is logical, in my opinion, to collaborate with them out of all of other fast fashion brand.
Okayyy i guess it’s time to buy the Ganni pieces we want because I can see price increases happening following that move 😂
loooool u might get priced out in a season or two 💀
Purchasing second hand fast fashion helps keep it out of the landfill and doesn't really support fast fashion.
I love hearing Brits pronounce HAY-ch - in H&M lol
looooool I always prepare myself for bullying when I mention H&M on here 😅
Your concerns about the algorithm are why I have what is effectively a burner account on UA-cam that I only use to search for specific stuff I don't want on my regular account (and I use it on a different browser so I don't have to log out of my main account on my regular browser), and my main account is carefully curated specifically for my normal viewing.
Mildly exhausting, but worth it to keep things like Nikocado Avocado off of my main feed ( I got curious once and managed 5 whole minutes before I said "I have seen five more minutes worth of this than I really ever needed to.".)
need to start doing this!!
It also prevents from getting into a bubble.
omg why didn't I think of this, I might have to have a brain dump account for all my socials and keep my main ones clean 😭 tysm for the tip!!!
also, I feel u with how quickly my interests ping pong around, like yesterday I may have been interested in a 40minute deep dive on America's food industry but I definitely don't want to do that today so pls don't show me that 💀
I've just taken my first name, then called it ...core! Its more personal to me!
