There's plenty more choice in the UK. This guy is just part of the wealthy shotgun brigade and they ignore pretty much anything that's not a shotgun over £3k.

How exactly does buying in the UK work? I know in the States if I find something I want it's a 4473 transfer form and as long as you pass you take it home. I know it's not that simple elsewhere.

With the Shotgun Certificate, you can just pop into the shop, pick and buy your gun, send the purchase details to the local police and thats largely it. With a firearm (rifles etc), you have to have a specific slot on your licence for a gun of a certain calibre and you can only get that slot, if you have a valid reason for it. Once you have purchased that specific firearm, that slot is then used. If later on, you want to sell that gun and get a different one, you have to relinquish that gun (sell it etc), the slot is then closed and you have to apply for a variation for a new slot, even if it is a like for like (i.e. 223 - 223).

Working at a trap and skeet range I learned a few things a $10,000 shotgun shoots as well as a $500 shotgun and you can spend $10k on a gun and still shoot worse than the guy with the $500 shotgun

Beautiful guns, what my fellow Americans are failing to see here is that these guns are art. I work in the industry, and the point of drastically diminishing returns is 1.5-2k USD. You still get improvment up to 4k, but beyond that its now all about art. Just look at that ultra premium wood, hand engraving and inlay, case hardening, ect. Id love to play with these guns for a day. That said, its beyond depressing to see how neutered you guys have become where arms are concerned. I guess thats the difference between citizens and subjects.

Gun prices, to me, are: fully user friendly/hunter grade (up to $1K USD), innovative production quality ($2-5K USD), high quality production ($5-15K USD), custom grade ($15K USD to Instant divorce!). Most US gun owners and hunters will have a number of guns in the first two levels and maybe even one in the third level, after they’re too old to really enjoy it. The fourth level is reserved for people with 7-digit and above incomes. The average US gun owner wouldn’t want to spend $10K+ USD on a shotgun, regardless of grade because we’ve been shooting the same game or targets with less expensive guns and no amount of engraver’s efforts will make the shooter a better shot. Beautiful shotguns to be sure but they’d gather dust on American racks!

Just had a quick look. The cheaper new guns are usually Turkish, which start at around £250 for a 12 gauge semi-auto. New Mossbergs start at around £700, Browning £1000. Used gets you much more bang for your Buck (pun intended), as second hand shotguns start at about £25 from a gun shop.

Biggest barrier to shooting in the UK is suitable land for shooting (70million people in a land area slightly smaller than North Carolina, with nothing like US National Forests to hunt in) rather than cost. What you see on TGS (which I do enjoy watching) is pretty much the expensive end of shooting in the UK. Where I am it’s a mechanic or plumber (without tweed clothing) shooting rabbit, fox or maybe deer after work on a patch of land they own or have a 'permission' to shoot over. A permission is usually an agreement with a local farmer / land owner to shoot on their land, in exchange for a bit of pest control. Have a good (checks time difference) afternoon/evening.
You can get cheapish shotguns for clays or just farm pest control. The more interesting question is how much paperwork and legislation you have to go through to get one.

I like looking at shotguns like these. I just don't shoot them well. I went to shoot clays with a friend and couldn't hit anything that wasn't moving directly in or out. Add in the massive flinch I from recoil and I'll stick to rifles. Which is odd because I shoot my 338 Lapua Magum pretty damn good.

Definitely more genteel than the average Canadian gun shop: there appear to be no coffee pots gurgling nor grumpy old target shooters standing around bitching about the government.
It could be an American shop where you see a lot of people you wouldn't want anywhere near something airsoft let alone a real gun. I've been shooting almost 20 years and it seems shooters are getting more and more negligent. Public ranges are pretty scary places. I went with a friend to help dial in his first center fire rifle and literally watched someone walk into a hot range to set a target. No asking for a ceasefire to set targets. Just strolled in. A couple of us who are familiar with protocol yelled really fast for a ceasefire. Definitely let the RSO who was checking another range know before someone gets hurt.

It is not similar... They shoot higher end guns. Hunting is more of a sport than gathering food. We primarily hunt wild birds, a lot of them shoot farm birds. We primarily hunt with dogs, they use beaters more often. We spend more money on rifles than on shotguns. It's mostly the other way around there. But at the same time they'll spend four times while we would on a shotgun.

You can get some ar style rifles but only in small calibres. My mum's uncle worked for landowners as a gameskeeper in the Scottish Highlands, he had rifles with high power scopes and suppressors

It's kinda funny, what the US calls high end o/u. It's a Beretta most likely and $2,500.00 UK calls a $16,000.00 gun high end. But the UK has much traditional respect for o/u, where in the US, it's nothing but a profitable product made as cheap as possible. Definitely more genteel than the average Canadian gun shop: there appear to be no coffee pots gurgling nor grumpy old target shooters standing around bitching about the government.
It could be an American shop where you see a lot of people you wouldn't want anywhere near something airsoft let alone a real gun. I've been shooting almost 20 years and it seems shooters are getting more and more negligent. Public ranges are pretty scary places. I went with a friend to help dial in his first center fire rifle and literally watched someone walk into a hot range to set a target. No asking for a ceasefire to set targets. Just strolled in. A couple of us who are familiar with protocol yelled really fast for a ceasefire. Definitely let the RSO who was checking another range know before someone gets hurt.

It is not similar... They shoot higher end guns. Hunting is more of a sport than gathering food. We primarily hunt wild birds, a lot of them shoot farm birds. We primarily hunt with dogs, they use beaters more often. We spend more money on rifles than on shotguns. It's mostly the other way around there. But at the same time they'll spend four times while we would on a shotgun.

@@runnin_myles8098 mostly but not all. You have to have a specific reason to own a gun when you purchase it, stuff like self defense isn't allowed. But sports, hunting, and work related are allowed. You can get some ar style rifles but only in small calibres. My mum's uncle worked for landowners as a gameskeeper in the Scottish Highlands, he had rifles with high power scopes and suppressors

Boy £10k which is almost $13k USD could buy me a bunch of cool stuff. A Barrett M99(pre Aussie sale) with optics and the kit to reload 50 BMG would be tempting. Maybe work on my collection of duty/military sidearms. Boy I could get into a lot of trouble.

It's kinda funny, what the US calls high end o/u. It's a Beretta most likely and $2,500.00 UK calls a $16,000.00 gun high end. But the UK has much traditional respect for o/u, where in the US, it's nothing but a profitable product made as cheap as possible. As a lifetime gun owner I have a great, great respect for the way UK respects o/u shotguns. It's the way it should be.

Beautiful shotguns but glad I live in a free state- I can pick up a couple of AKs, couple of AR, plus a couple of quality semiautomatic handguns and walk out of my local shop with six guns and take them home for less than the price of one of these shotguns- and still have money to buy a shotgun or two in the Southeast USA
