Without shooting it it’s hard to say if they captured the magic of a true London gun, but they certainly nailed the appearance! Beautiful! You’re a lucky man JC! 👍🏼
I was given a Winchester 1897 12g made in 1910. It belonged to a good friend's grandfather, then to his father, then to him my friend, and on his passing given to me. I fired it the other day, seeing it has been in a safe for over 50 years. Ran like a new gun, but now it's time to refinish the stock and charging grip. What would you recommend ?
I'm a gunsmith. Get some spring steel cabinet scrapers and gingerly scrape the old finish off. Don't sand it. You don't want to actually remove any wood. Just the old finish. Once you've scraped the finish off, go over it lightly with 220 and then 320 grit sandpaper just to clean and smooth it up a bit. After that you should be able to just clean off any dust and apply finishing oil. I like tung oil, but others work fine too. Hand rub a light coat of oil, let it dry and repeat until you get the desired sheen. Hope that helps.
A cabinet scraper is just a woodwork tool. In summary, it’s a flat piece of steel with a burr rolled on the edge (up close it would look like a little hook). The little burr is really sharp and produces fine shavings when scraped on wood
Grulla used to make Continental guns for William Powell. They were nicely made and of course a rather less dear than Powell's Birmingham made best guns.
I might be wrong but I can't see the reasoning buying an imitation English gun made in Spain, when you can buy an English gun for similar money with decent life in the barrels, chuck a smidge on a bit of restoration areas and you have a better gun with some history 🤷♂️
You don't need to soend much to get a nice english gun, lets not forget london built sidelocks where not incredibly hard guns, birmingham makers made plenty of great guns. Cashmore, webley, cogs, bsa etc all great
Cheapest gun made in England ? 80k ?Surely Gallyon will beat that by 50% at least ? - ok it will not be a homage to a best London SxS …. But possibly all the better for it. Nice review as always.
Lovely gun , I love a nice side by side , as long as i like it i am not bothered where its made . all though at 13k plus , i would have to sell my organs
Any gun made in Spain is a Spanish gun. Continental gunmakers have been producing guns of the highest quality for as long as the English (and Scottish )

A very enjoyable TGS video to watch.
They look beautiful! Everyone should have a SxS to pull out and enjoy once in a while. They're great fun.
Jonny, thanks for the giving us Yanks views of the details of this gun. I'm most impressed by the finger pad on the trigger guard.

When he went to the Gallyon factory recently, I thought he said that the sporting o/u started at 55k.
So, a brazen Hussey???
