  • How to fix P0234 Code: Turbocharger / Supercharger Overboost Condition
The boost is the amount of positive pressure that is being created by the turbocharger.
When the pressure is high, an overboost condition will exist, which the computer (ECM/PCM) will receive through sensors and send out a P0234 code.
Possible Causes of a P0234 Code:
    Bad WasteGate or WasteGate Actuator
Bad Boost Solenoid Pressure Control Valve
    Bad Turbo
    Faulty Sensor (BARO/MAP/MAF)
    Exhaust Restriction

I have a 2008 Focus ST with the Volvo T5 engine. I keep getting a p0234 code and car goes into limp mode when I go up steady inclines and have to use slight boost to maintain speed. Doesnt do it any other time, boosts hard and drives perfectly fine otherwise. Any ideas?

How to tell is wastegate actuator too tight? It has nuts to adjust lenght, I can make it shorter or longer.

The turbo hose is separate. Does this affect the turbo and the P0234 code appears?

Thanks for the info, very helpful. Hopefully my problem only ends up being the a bad wastegate on my Land Rover.

I had this code and changed the solenoid. Never had any sort of lack of power. After I changed the solenoid change the light stayed off. Later on I had a code for my catalytic converter. Ran some cleaner though my system via fuel. Fuel MPG went up after that. Now the P0234 code is back and I am experiencing lack of power on hills at highway speed. Any ideas?

I have a 2013 Ford Escape I don't know if it matters if it's from Canada or not it was imported sold in the US Michigan the Motor City. I've replaced everything from the turbo to the solenoids to the diverter valve. I still can't find what the problem is. Would it be buying an Amazon solenoid turbo solenoid I read somewhere where it was best to have the Ford product if you're still getting these issues I just don't want to spend $100 for the boost solenoid I have bought three of them now? Any help is well appreciated😊

I have a 2013 Chevy Cruze. Replaced the turbe a couple of years ago. Today I picked up a PO234 code, and only that code. How would I troubleshoot the wastegate and boost solenoid?

Test the wastegate with a vacum tester. On top of the turbo as in the video the actuator has a hose going in it. Remove the hose and put the hose from the tester. Search up on how to test and you will find a video.

Stuck swirl flaps in the manifold can also make the boost pressure go up. Happend to me once.

On my 2004 Opel Astra 1.7cdti.
Driving and accelerating on the highway demanding max boost and engine load.
I had a broken vacuum line going to solenoid for these intake manifold flaps. They remained shut so they were blocking the flow and so the boost went up too much. It had no sensor on the flaps or actuator for the flaps to inform the ecu. The boost values never went out of range in the other driving conditions.

I got this error too: 16618 boost presure regulatiom p0234 - 000 - limit exceedee (overboost condition) on my VW Touran '04. Happened while going down a valley 10°, i had like 100km/h and i pressed the acceleration, a little bit over 2000rpm and i felt like cutted the turbo. 🤔🤔
