    1500 holes? That's a lot of work. Let's say 2 per minute, that's 750 minutes or 12 hours. Props to you for taking on the project. I love your choice of colors, I'm sure it is going to look amazing. I believe you can do this with Grape Hyacinth (Muscari armeniacum) as well, perhaps a project for under another tree?

      Well I'm glad someone did the maths because I certainly didn't! Yes, I've seen grape hyacinths used in this way and they really are vigorous so should do really well. But I 'm afraid my heart belongs to the delicate beauty of the crocus.

      @@GardeningatDouentza I can understand that, we all have our preferences. I used to have them interplanted when I lived up north because the Crocus came and went early and then the Hyacinth followed just behind them.

    Absolutely gorgeous!!! We had them in our yard and we called them "sneaky peeks" because they would come up in Feb or Mar but... we knew spring was coming in 4-6 weeks. Thank you for sharing this video!!!

      Sneaky peeks - I love that. Crocuses are a sneaky peek at what's to come. Glad you liked the video.

      Thanks, Wanda. Yes, me too. They cover quite an area so they should look great.

    Crocus sounds like a beautiful display. 1500 of them is a lot of work. I have a location where I have planted an Acer palmatum 'bloodgood' and the lawn around this suitable for Crocus. Bulbi looks great and wish they distributed down here in Australia. Sourcing bulbs where I am rather difficult and expensive so we need Company like Bulbi.

      I hope you find a source for your crocus lawn as it is a beautiful thing to have. What a pity there's a lack of bulb companies in Australia.

      @naturalexplorer Місяць тому

      @@GardeningatDouentza We have bulb suppliers. Not many dedicated to bulbs only though, so trying to get what you want where I live difficult. They are also quite a lot more expensive than Bulbi which looks like a really good, dedicated bulb supplier.

    I remember when I studied archaeology at York a decade ago, I walked around the Museum Gardens one day in spring, the crocus blooms literally matted under a big tree there, it was a fascinating sight! Sadly, I couldn't grow crocus as my place (indoors, in an apartment) is a bit too warm for them, even in winter, so I have no luck to grow crocus on my own.

      What a wonderful memory! If you can't grow them yourself hopefully you can visit somewhere with a nice display in spring.

      Lots of gardens do like that - a thin strip of long grass in the centre of an area. It's perfect for crocuses and other naturalised bulbs. Go for it!

    How long on average would you say it takes the crocus to fade after blooming? I generally have to mow the grass under my deciduous trees by mid-May.

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  Місяць тому

      I think the length of time suggested for leaving crocus foliage unmowed is six weeks. You should be able to mow by mid May.

  • @aada220
    @aada220 Місяць тому +1

    It means you can't step on the lawn once the crocus are booming?

    Bulbi also seems to offer bare root plants at *very* reasonable prices - Have you any experience with them on that?
    (Otherwise I'll just buy a truckload of glory-of-the-snow ^^)

      I must say, I have never ordered Bulbi's bareroot perennials but I do see some nice peonies among them... Can't go wrong with glory-of-the-snow though!

    Focus on the task at hand. a million bulbs scattered across the land,
    Had to be dug in one by one. It took a while before she was done.
