The World's Second Best Egg Pie recipe (Filipino Egg Pie)

  • A childhood favorite that you can now make at home from scratch. It's creamy, milky and oh so yummy :)
    I forgot to add an egg yolk in the crust but still turned out well. Bake your dreams come true :)
    Ingredients:
    ~Crust~
    1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour or pastry flour
    2 Tbsp sugar
    ½ tsp salt
    150g unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
    3 tbsp cold water
    1 egg yolk
    ~Custard Filling~
    1 can evaporated milk
    1 can condensed milk
    5 whole eggs + 1 yolk
    1 egg white
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    1/2 tsp lemon zest (optional)

    Hi can i ask did you put the eggyolk in the crust because I didn't see in the video that you put it? But in your ingredients have eggyolk.

      Hi Ryella, Sorry for the confusion. Sadly, I missed to add the yolk during this video shoot and ended with a Pâte Brisée rather than Pâte Sucrée :)

      Hi Sam, our oven in our apartment is fan forced. You'll probably need both since crust isn't pre-baked.

    Hi madam, i saw you putting 1 can of evaporated milk, but on the description below it says 1 cup. So is it 1 cup or 1 can? Thanks very much! Will definitely try looks yummy !

      Hi Mida, I honestly have not used fresh milk on this recipe. It may work out but taste will be different as evaporated milk has richer taste than fresh milk.

      @@ailedsorevilo2992 I reckon everything in can or tetra pack has preservatives :) Fresh milk and sugar can be used as maybe substitute however sugar isn't that good either. What do you reckon is a good substitute for condensed milk? I appreciate any suggestion. Have a good one.

      Hi Jovv, for this recipe it's actually just a personal preference. Some people may achieved a smooth egg pie without tempering eggs. We prefer to treat the eggs with little bit of TLC to achieve a smooth, creamy texture in our egg pie. Hope this helps :)

    Wlang yeast ang crust po ba? Simple as flour salt butter and sugar lang po

      Hi Michelle, pie crust doesn't contain any yeast. Yes, it is simply made with flour, salt, butter, sugar and sometimes egg yolk. Hope this helps. Happy baking!

      Hi there,
      Over mixing could be one thing. It will create a lot of air in the mixture if na over mixed sya especially if you're using a blender. Heat could be another factor as well.

      Hi Michelle, just heat the milk a little bit but not boiling hot. If it's too hot, cool it down a bit before adding to the eggs.

      Hi Lilybeth, sorry for the delay in response. Did you chill it in the fridge after baking? I normally chill it in the fridge after it cooled down to room temp. Also, it depends on the pie tin size and the oven temperature. I have convection oven at home.

      Yes, there's an excess in the filling and in the crust. I used the excess and made 2 small pies.

      Hi Elvira, sorry for late reply. Preheat oven to 170 Celsius then lower it to 140 Celsius when you put the pie into the oven. Hope this helps. Happy baking!

      Hi there, the milk should not be added if it's boiling hot. If it's hot, it can be added gradually to temper the eggs. If you add a hot milk all at once into the eggs, the milk will cook the egg and might end up with scrambled eggs :) Hope this helps. Happy baking!

      To answer your question, 1 can of condensed milk is approximately 485g which is equivalent to 1 1/4 cups + 1 tsp (approx). A can of evaporated milk (approx. 385ml) is equivalent to 1 2/3 cups + 2 tsp. Hope this helps. Happy baking!

    The egg pie recipe without the condensed milk is much better. It uses sugar instead so it doesn’t taste like a giant flan pie.

      Hi there, yes you're right. So you'll get almost the same creaminess and custardy texture of a flan though not as rich as the egg-yolk only flan since this recipe uses whole eggs. Happy baking!

      Hi Manuel, oven temperature is one of the factor that could affect the outcome of baked goods. This recipe is meant to be jiggly when it comes out of the oven as it will set when it cools down :)

      Using gloves in baking it's not a big help .. it's a messy one . Using clean bare hand is best one ..

      No its ok...no gloves ....so long as you wash your hands well....with gloves you will not be in co relation with the dough..you will not feel the results...
