Terrific comparison Jon. I love the anCnoc 24 and I haven’t had this Springbank 15 but I adore the regular Springbank 15. I think I prefer the 15 and I think I prefer the anCnoc 18! I will have to have another dram of the 24. I will crack open a new bottle. They are damn pricey but sadly scotch is only moving up in cost. Great thoughts. I think it’s difficult to clear the palette sometimes. I usually just go with one in the evening. The kids are heading back tomorrow to McGill and U of Toronto. It’s late this year for the move in. Our oldest, 22, is starting medical school at the U of Toronto so I’m off to help her and Joel is taking our youngest and middle kiddos back to McGill. For our youngest he is starting first year! Our middle kiddo is going into 3rd year. I will miss the energy, noise and fun! It’s great being together over the summer!! Our oldest is following her dad into medicine and we are so proud! She’s amazing. All the kids are! Very different personalities but fabulous kiddos.
Sounds like a busy week ahead! Our oldest has graduated and is working in his environmental field. Our youngest is going back for second year at a University in Winnipeg. Where Lyn and I met actually. Flew out on her own this time. I'm a bit tired of that drive! I need to bring home an 18 so I can compare. I have enjoyed the 18 before, but it's been a long while. Take care!
I’d love to see and do a comparison with the anCnoc 18! I know prices are insane. It annoys me. I want accessibility for all. Hey so awesome for your kids! Glad your son is working in his chosen area of interest and it’s terrific your daughter flew back to 2nd year in Manitoba. I need to spend more time in Winnipeg. Fabulous arts community! I hear you about the drive. We need to to IKEA runs with the kids. Only one will be in residence - youngest! I think it’s helpful early on. My middle kiddo and oldest are sharing places with friends! I kind of miss those days at times!!
I adore anything anCnoc does. I think I’ve had maybe 5 or so different expressions and they’ve all been wonderful. Natural color, non chill filter and always a great price point. I picked up this 24yr for around the $200 mark. An absolute steal for that age.
I saw the link on fb and went and poured myself an anCnoc 24 before locating your review, so I could sip along. I really get the old library on the taste and the slight bitterness on the long(!) finish. Great being reminded of this whisky🙂
@sowlegwhiskyreview5501 Glad you had the time to enjoy a dram with me. This is solid, and one I may need the full bottle. That said, I think I'll bring home the 18 to see how it compares. I hope you late summer is going well!
Oh!! Joel just said he got the Ancona 24s for about $215 and we actually paid more for the Springbank. Joel likes port finishes and he’s looking for the 15 you sampled here. I’m not as much of a fan. He’s happy to have found the AnCnoc 24 for this price. It’s why he grabbed 2. Insane to think $300 seems routine for a nice older Scotch but it kind of does these days. Sad. People are priced out.
That springbank sounds delicious! Port with springbank wow. It’s always nice when I know I’ll never be able to have the whisky but can still sort of experience it through someone else, cheers Jon! I have the regular 15, picked it up for £45 with 2 Glencairns thrown in 2 years ago, no chance I’d ever be able to get it again for that! But just love love love that whisky
Haven't had either of these, and I would be hard pressed to decide which one to choose if I had to. How about...both!! Knockdhu is right near the top of my favourite distilleries, enough so that I have it on the "must visit" list for any future trip to Scotland. I had friends desperately trying to acquire the anCnoc 24 for me when they were over there but there were only five bottles available in the whole country at that time, and sadly none near any centres where they were traveling. I'd be very interested to hear what further notes you pull from the Springbank once you've added water. Hope your cold is disappearing. Suspect a wee tot o' fine whisky won't hurt! 😊 Marvin surprised me for my birthday yesterday with a few new additions to my shelf, sneaky lad. Opened the Edradour 10 Oloroso edition last night with our neighbours to celebrate. It's VERY nice! Have yourselves a wonderful week 🥃🥃 "m"e 🇨🇦
Hey Jon, that AnCnoc 24 sounds like a fun relaxed dram. I managed to get AnCnoc 24 but have not opened it yet. The 18 is good though and I have recently ordered a second bottle of AnCnoc 18. As for the Springbank, the only one I managed to hunt down is the 15 year old and yet to open it. Sadly, there are no Springbank to be had in Canada for a long time and forget about finding any in Ontario.
It is sad how hard it has become to pick up a Springbank. I really enjoy them, but wish it was easier to share with friends. Cool you have the 24 unopened. I hope you enjoy it when the right time comes!
The AnCnoc 24 was around $220 last year at BSW and worth it imo. I also have the 18 and both of them are darker than previous releasesand the 24 is much more sherried than I remember.

It is fantastic! Thank you for sharing with me!
Great descriptors! Lucky you!
Cheers 🥃
I agree, very kind friends!
I just found my very first bottle of Bunnahabhain 12. I've wanted one for 15 years. It doesn't disappoint. I really enjoy it.
So glad you found one and enjoy it. It hit's way above it's price point IMO and really everyone should at least try a dram. Cheers!
Who cares about cohesion when you've got samples of this quality ... Thanks for sharing, Jon! Cheers.
@@whiskywhereabouts these were fantastic, I agree!

@@christinecamley Many people definitely priced out of some of these great Scotches.

Amazing whisky and what a story. We'll still bump into some wild deals, but likely nothing like that again. Cheers to fun memories!
