@@TikuVsTaku I did not! I actually met her back in 2007 at a drum expo in New Hampshire. She was the last performer and stuck around to sign some cymbals that the Zildjian folks brought. She was really nice and chill.
Amazing footage! I was so obsessed with this period of Lenny’s music. Love that you could see the cymbals Cindy was playing and the actual kit size. If you have any more footage please post it
Lenny giving the soundman hell is sort of funny. I feel his pain and also the soundguys because every venue is different, so you need different settings each night. I'm sure it worked out in the end for them hahah. Cindy is awesome.
@@merrymonarch I feel like Sheila E was known more for singing and percussion work and not so much drumset playing. I know she can play....it's just not what made her famous.
@@fubar1217It was her groundwork and that’s what she played with Prince and Santana and did studio work. She still recognized as a drummer not really a singer songwriter as much.
Some clear plexiglass barrier screens on stage would have probably helped solved this problem. Put the some small plexiglass screens in from the mic up amps, and a big one in front of the drums and that would stop the bleed through so that the vocal mics are not getting overloaded. That and get some in-ear monitors, and Lenny would have most likely been satisfied with his mix. For a lead singer Like LK to not hear his vocal for 2 weeks while touring; I can see why he is upset, it means he has to strain and over sing just to barely hear his vocals. That that certainly leads to challenging times having to sing like that night after night.
Whoever shot this, I hope you didn't quit your day job 😂 This has to be a contender for most unwatchable video ever! Saw this tour in Philly so it brings back some good memories. Wonder what my date that night is up to these days ...
This was clearly footage recorded for MTV. But, it is quite funny that the videographer seems to want to stare at Cindy's chest and torso the whole time.
what song is that in the very beginning first minute. It's a cool jazzy jam. I would have loved to see this concert. Cindy is a great drummer and a wonderful person, I've watched several interviews and drum sessions. She also has a great body, keeps fit. Rock on.
All about the $-- it’s too bad she has to just bash away at this crappy Rock stuff- she deserves better but she’s made her choice as many players have,, I saw her years ago with Pharoah Sanders- she played great.
Strange comment. The men that play drums are either ”better” drummers than her or not. And the ones that are worse have no gender problems, just a recognition that she’s either more talented, practices more, or both. No problems. And to provide comment on her drumming in this video; extremely rudimentary
I couldn’t get a good enough image of it but her set is sonor-that snare doesn’t sound like a sonor but I think it sounds crappy. It needed to be tuned up higher pitch to eliminate that muddy thud. The music doesn’t need a fat sound it needs a sharp articulate crack sound. My opinion only of course. I’m trying to see the lugs past her legs. Forget it the legs win. She’s a drummer alright
The reason Lenny can't hear his vocals is literally because EVERYTHING ELSE IS TOO LOUD .... in this instance, turn everything back down and start over... Maybe remix around his vocals worst case scenario.... Hire me!!! Lenny literally indirectly told him the fix ... I mixed for years and read about this in a mastering book... When a mix struggles turn shit down ...
Not sure who shooting the video but this should never have been allowed to be posted by Lenny and Cindy.....the person got a "thing" about Cindy's attire?
Amazing director and camera angles. I got car sickness..but so awesome to be at sound check w Lenny, Cindy and the band!
So much Tony Williams in her playing. Love it!
What a gem of a material, thanks!
She is very talented and beautiful.
Awesome
This lady got some mean beats.....so talented!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing, Chris.
Badass drummer!! Her groove on rock n roll is dead is unmatched!
She hits hard. Holy cow. That’s gotta hurt after an hour of doing that. What a beast
You get used to hitting hard. What's more tiring is having to keep playing the same song to work out a monitor issue. Lol

Exactly. I don’t know where people get the idea that playing drums hurts? Did you know that she has a black belt in karate btw.?

Cindy is an awesome Musician. You can see her commitment on her face 🥁
She is beautiful and awesome drummer
Awesome interview 🌹
Make No Mistake Cindy Blackman can Drum with the Best of them.
I never heard of her before this Sound Check.
Powerful Drummer and great Personality.

Cool stuff, when this album came out it was a stand out
Underrated and really nostalgic for me
❤❤❤❤ Cindy 😊
Cindy..😘😘😘😘and that Sonor set sounds fantastic!!!
I saw them open for The Rolling Stones on the Voodoo Lounge tour. They blew the Stones out of the water. Hands down.
Lenny is a perfectionist
this is so cool
Tony Williams’ sticks… 🤩
She is a great jazz drummer also...
Man, she is a powerhouse 👍
"I Love Cindy Blackman"
The title of this video it should be "How cool is Cindy Blackman "

Right, in some venues your 15 000USD Gibson will sound like cheap Epi
Cindy Blackman has to be one of the fiercest drummers ever! She paved the way for women drummers in the 90s
Shelia E?

I think this video should be titled 'Cindy Blackman Sound Check. Lenny Kravitz Whining.'

the camera operator.. had obviously landed that gig earlier that day.. prior work was lab technician zooming in with microscopes..
That kit is tiny, she hits like a beast

I love how many men can't handle the fact Cindy is a better drummer than most.
Where? Who? I've never seen anyone give her criticism for being a woman.
Lol yeah not so much anymore, but 20 years ago I used to hear/read that crap all the time. Screw them.

...no Wonder Santana married her :)
She’s fine as hell back then
I was/am still Jealous of Lenny Kravitz. He had the Band I wanted, & sometimes the look I wanted(but with Greg Rollie's hair 😄👍🏾).
Love that she's a chick but doesn't play like a chick. She doesn't have exaggerated movements or showy overplaying and she's masterful.
Who shot this video ? It could have been great but the director doesn't stop Cindy's body ! It's embarrassing ! We needed pictures !
Pictures of what?
How not to make a video
Sound man’s night mare singer singing falsetto…drums banging…gtrs….i can’t hear no shit
Wow, that song sounds like a silverchair /led zeppelin mash-up !!!
So Talented, so beautiful!!! Too bad she's married to that Carlos guy. Lol
