I never thought I would be saying this but, as you are cruising out there on the lake, relaxed on the bench seats, it made a pontoon boat look cool and fun (which I really never thought of them before in that way). It had the feel of a floating living room. All you need now is a big flat screen TV.

A third pontoon will increase your buoyancy thus increasing you GVW capacity. As far as adding speed......not really. But will increase your acceleration to your current top speed. Done this a few times. Great Job. Its one of the best bang for your buck modifications. And Pontoon Wholesalers are a great source.

I owned two 20 foot pontoon boats, then purchased a new 24' tritoon. A standard pontoon is a displacement hull, simply moving water out the way (like the Titanic) and will never plane. You can add all the horsepower you want and never get over about 24 mph. The 3d pontoon gives the boat enough surface area to plane, and yes, makes a Tremendous difference all around. I noticed your pontoons were very small...I think mine were 25" in diameter on the tritoon and it would go well over 30 mph with a 115 hp four stroke Mercury. Fuel economy was extraordinary, stability and turning was great. I even took it into the Gulf of Mexico out of Mobile and it felt safe. Everyone should add the third pontoon to their boats.

I get quite sea sick, so much of my life I've avoided boating. But a pontoon boat would be just the ticket. They look amazing. Super stable, heaps of room to move around. They look really comfortable in terms of eating and entertaining. You could fish off them, have a shower etc etc. The list goes on.

Great idea to add the 3rd ‘toon; I didn’t even know you could. And smart choice on the beefier trailer. You shouldn’t regret good money spent on safety and reliability, especially if you start towing that bad boy to other lakes on the highway. You’ve done a great job of building a $40k tritoon from a $1500 starting point. Even if the cost was $20k (retail), you are still way ahead

I've watched this series with interest and have enjoyed watching you trick that boat out. If I may make a comment on the new center pontoon. I come from a airplane background and something that is done as a safety precaution is when you put a bolt and nut in an airplane if possible put the bolt head on top so even if the nut comes off the bolt will stay in place. I noticed that the bolts you put in the heads are down. I'm sure it's not as big of a deal in your application but in your case if a nut comes loose you'll lose the whole nut/bolt combo. I'm looking forward to more vids, keep up the good work.

Here's a "things my Dad would say" comment. Before starting some evolution like trailering the boat, etc. Make a checklist beforehand and set the conditions before you start. Not for stuff like lighting a BBQ or washing the car, but for an event where there is potential to have an expensive screw up. My two cents. I agree with some other comments here, you make pontoon boats look cool and fun. Great video, good times.

Your motor is too low. Also, you need to find a new prop. You shouldn't be maxing out at 4700 RPM. Find out the WOT operating range for your outboard. I'd recommend a 4 blade Stainless steel prop with a low pitch, like 13 or 14. That should get you closer to your WOT operating range.

Most factory built tri toons have "spray shields" or skins which bolt up under the deck cross members to cover them and reduce drag from the water hitting the cross members. Also change your prop and go to a 2-4" lower pitch to get your rpms over 5000. Its about a 250 rpm increase for every inch of pitch, i.e. if you have a 19" pitch prop pulling 4700 rpm going to a 17" pitch should get you around 5200 rpm. Run your test with just you on the boat and the engine trimmed up to where its just below the point the prop slips or cavitates.

The more the drinkers....the more responsibility and the less time you will have to relax and enjoy your treasured CLOSE FRIENDS. Plus, invite those who will chip in on the expense AND help to clean up after you get back to the boat ramp... to many scatter like cockroaches once the booze and babes have gone. Happy 2021 Bro ! yep as said below, at 4700 rpm you are bogging that motor. You need a little less pitch prop for that added weight. 5500 should be your minimum wide open throttle rpm. The response and steering will really wake up...and you'll go a little faster

  • @Patriot-up2td
    @Patriot-up2td 3 роки тому

You need to carpet your trailer bunks. Buy black synthetic fiber carpet by the foot off the roll at Depot. Take measurements and pre-cut your carpet strips. Take each bunk board off individually, wrap 100% and then staple them on the bottom, then reinstall. Plus carpet the same on the two stopper bunks on your front winch tree. Also, do some homework into re-propping your engine. You should be getting your RPM’s up about 1000 more than your getting. That Mercury should be topping out between 5400-5700 RPM’s (not 4500’s). Go with the maxed radius prop for your engine, but one with a lower pitch, and one with extra cupping on the blade tips for pontoons, and you’ll achieve that. Get your RPM’s up and you’ll gain some top end speed. Nice thing,,, props are cheap. One more thing, the best upgrade we ever made to our pontoon boat was to add the SE Sport 300 Hydrofoil fin to our engine. It’s the “best in testing” hydrofoil fin on the market. The difference is night and day! Better more precise turns, the thrust increase is phenomenal for hole shots, and it completely eliminated any cavitation or prop blowout when accelerating. You can just bury that throttle! They’re not expensive either. Check‘em out, you’ll be glad you did! Great work so far. You’ve done a really nice job and I love your passion for it! Enjoy!!!

good work! Now with more buoyancy, you can play with a couple different prop combinations now that you have less boat in the water at speed, might run you few hundred bucks, or less for some good used stainless props. But, thrust vs. speed is a gamble on toons. Should be some good episodes for you!!

Hey man 4500 rpm seems low for wide open throttle on plane. My 90 Hp and 150Hp both want to be around 5500-5600 RPM when up on plane and at wide open throttle. Lugging the motor can wear it and/or the lower unit out early, so you may need to get a higher pitch propeller. Every inch of pitch is good for about 200 RPM. Good Luck!

Have you installed a sacrificial zinc or aluminum block to protect your metals??

Ho, great video but you don't show the U-bolt install for the trailer safety strap? curious if it was a problem ? seems like just ubolting into the front plate would not be string enough? any advice?

I like the new intro! The only thing I think would look better would be to change how ultimate rebuilds appears. I think it would be sweet if it was sprayed into place with paint since you do so much awesome painting

You could probably film it yourself too using stop motion as you paint each letter

I'm sure you already checked, but when you hammered in the front, your mount bolts were either loosening or tightening, might wanna double check.

Tri-toon's are SOOO much nicer. We had a 22' pontoon with a 115 Yamaha that would do 25mph. We sold it and bought the same boat in a tri-toon option with a 150 Yamaha and it does 41mph gps confirmed. It's fun passing center consoles and them looking over like WTH!!?? lol

Curious after watching all your vids, if you wished you had moved the bar forward maybe 12-18"? That would have allowed you so much more room for a traditional captains chair. It really makes me nervous to see you sitting or standing so close to the back like that. Just be careful if you ever go tubing because I've seen folks hit waves and go airborne and if you are standing and not paying attention... man overboard! lol

have you ever swapped out 15" wheels for the pontoon (smaller) wheels and do they fit the same hubs?

Nice work! But no threadlock on those bolts? Or are they nylon or locking nuts?

Sorry, I comment as I watch, some of those aerials should be used for ads for some pontoon companies or dealerships. They should pay you to shoot that so they can play it at trade shows or for their own websites.
