Coming from a gay cis illustrator: I don't think you need to start making 'decidedly' cis characters in order to make.. well, cis characters. Art is subjective to it's core and unless the character you are illustrating is visibly trans anyone can view it through any lense they choose, be it cis, trans, queer or anything else really. The way we perceive art is rather individualistic, so someone might see themselves in a piece you made with a completely different audience in mind, especially if the art itself is fluid enough. So I wouldn't stress about making content representing cis identities specifically. Just do you! :)
