I love how pretty much everyone universally loves Beta-Ray-Bill. He may not be the most popular character, but everyone who knows who he is is always glad to see him.
Daniel Warren Johnson is a modern GOAT. Every comic he does feels kinetic and visceral. Everybody should read “Murder Falcon” and “Do A Powerbomb” by him, because both comics made me ugly cry. He’s super talented and just kills it every time. “Extremity” is also absolutely incredible.
Y'all totally forgot that he pitched this to Tiff during the interview she did and seemed like he might've spilled the beans about working on the book before it was ever announced! DWJ is one of the best storytellers in comics right now that is so underappreciated, so I love that the Dead Earth and Beta Ray Bill have been done on the couch, if only we could warrant an episode for Murder Falcon
got this book solely on this channels recommendation, ive always thought Bill was really awesome and underrated but had kinda just stopped paying him as much attention as other characters. This story is legendary and really establishes why Beta Ray Bill is such a loved and respected character. Also that scene where Bill hits a guy with a rainmaker clothesline in the barfight may have given me the most visceral hype reaction to anything ive ever seen in a comic book. this book kicked my ass and put Bill right back on the top of my list of coolest characters ever.
I like the ending, it shows that he can't just erase being Beta Ray Bill, he was in his horse form probably longer than he was in his Corbinite form, it's just who he is and going back won't change that. Its kinda beautiful in a way that doesn't nail you in the head with what it's trying to say.
That's interesting. I took kinda a monkey's paw kinda wish where he gets what he wants but there's a twist. Or that whatever it was that others saw in him is no longer there as this experience has forever changed him
Sal I gotta give it to you. You set up this book with Donuary and managed to cover all the groundwork and story explanations you promised to do all before you got to this book you've been gushing about since it's release. I can feel this is going to be a good one.
This is a book that I've been planning to check out. You say Sal covered all the groundwork and story explanations one would need going into this, what're some stories I should read first to appreciate this one more?
"They sing no songs in Hel. Nor do they celebrate heroes... For silent is that dismal realm and cheerless... But the story of The Gjallerbru and the God who defended it is whispered across the Nine Worlds... And when a new arrival asks about the one to whom even Hela bows her head... The answer is always the same.. 'He stood alone at Gjallerbru..' And that answer is enough." Still brings a tear to my eye. That one issue just hit so hard.
Man this new season of Bojack Horseman is nuts Also, if anybody is interested in this comic, I cannot recommend enough that you read Do A Powerbomb, also by Daniel Warren Johnson, out right now. It’s a pro-wrestling tournament comic about a necromancer who’s recruiting the daughter of a famous wrestler who died accidentally in the ring in order to do the greatest wrestling match of all time, for the prize of resurrecting her mother. It’s awesome and everyone should read it immediately.
I really want Will Arnett to voice Beta Ray Bill when he joins the McU because it would be a hilarious meta casting. Also Will Arnett is a great voice actor and he would definitely have the gravitas for BRB
@@chubbysummers69 Will Arnett would absolutely be a great choice for Bill, but personally, I'd love to hear Keith David as his voice actor with somebody else doing the mo-cap work.
If you want a Sif & Bill arc, there’s Journey Into Mystery. After Gillen did the Kid Loki run Marvel kept the book alive and intended to make it a thing where each Asgard character would get their own arcs/stories and thus decided to start with Sif. The book didn’t sell as well as the Gillen run so it was cancelled before any other arcs were done but the Sif arc is about her, Bill, Skuttlebutt and Gaia in space
I cannot thank you enough Sal for recommending this during Off the Rack when it was coming out, I picked up every issue at release and I love the character of Bill & his design so much that I purchased my first Variant cover which was DWJ's version of Thor #337. It's an incredible read and it's a crime that there isn't an oversized art version available. So glad to see this episode released and I hope it gets the attention it deserves.
This was the most fantastic most epic story ever read Beta Ray Bill and it’s a crime that didn’t sell more! But hopefully with this video it’s sell millions now! Also to the bottom of my heart comic pop I thank you for doing this video! And also sorry for nagging you in every video to do this series.
I figured Beta Ray Bill’s theme song, similar to the cadence to the Bill Nye the Science Guy theme. BETA RAY! Bill Bill Bill Bill Bill ENCHANTED HORSE MAN
My first read of this year and easily made it into my top 5, just absolutely dope book. I agree Sal, it is a absolute crime it wasn't longer or in a deluxe format.
This story is dope AF, thanks comic pop team. Your channel is such a treasure, I'm so glad you guys do ehat you enjoy as a job. It's amazing. I'm so grateful to have seen you guys and accidentally found the channel through recommendations.
What an awesome episode! I’ve been watching y’all since 2016, but didn’t consistently watch every episode of Back Issues. Now, a senior in college, I find my interest in characters way more diverse than it once was and I’m going back and watching all the episodes I missed out on. This one was awesome! Love ya guys
So glad you guys got to do this book! It really deserves more eyes on it. I picked it up in singles on your recommendation as it was coming out. As much as I love it I can't justify buying the TPB, but I hope this episode sells a lot of copies of this book. I feel like in the days of crowdfunding, Marvel and DC should allow creators or fans to campaign and crowdfund hardcovers or special editions of their favorite stories. That would solve the issue with Marvel not wanting to have inventory while still allowing fans to get books that the publishers may not believe in, and give those same fans and avenue to show the publishers what they are interested in.
Going to my local comic shop tomorrow, gonna look for this book. So excited to get my hands on it. Me and my Dad love Beta Ray Bill, excited to give this a read
I read this last night and it’s right up there with Jason Aaron’s ‘Thanos Rising’ as a mini-series that runs beautifully from start to finish, no notes.
This story was so effing fun, it reminds me _WHY_ I fell in love with comics. Not to seem negative, I'm sure it's hard to write comics, but there are so many great characters that are one good story away from greatness. It's a shame.
I try to read the comics Back Issues covers before watching the videos. I'm so glad I read this one. It's one of the finest comics I've read in my life. It's unbelievably good, and it's about a cyborg alien with a horse face.
I love this book and thankfully read it because of Sal recommending it on Off the Rack over at Comic-Pop Returns. It's such a beautiful story and the art is fantastic.
As much as I hate bringing Skurge back from the dead because his death was so iconic for me, him coming back here and how he is used before he returns back, it was totally worth it.
I loved this miniseries; it should have been made into an ongoing. Also, I don't understand how Thor had, like, a thousand hammers made at one point a few years ago but Bill couldn't get a new one......🤷
Buy Beta Ray Bill! amzn.to/3TdbW14
I love how pretty much everyone universally loves Beta-Ray-Bill. He may not be the most popular character, but everyone who knows who he is is always glad to see him.
My copy of Beta Ray Bill does look lonely. I could buy another one to keep it company
I'm buying this book right now. Loved this episode.
THE BALLAD OF BETA RAY BILL 2 ELECTRIC BOOGALOO
Early Christmas gift. You spoil us brother.
2 episodes in a row where Fin Fang Foom can't catch a break
Fin Fang Foom started covid

*Surtur transforms into his giant mode again in the middle of their duel*
*Skurge:* "Bad form!"
*Skutt (holding him back):* "Skurge, stop!"
Two Beta Ray Bill stories in such a short amount of time, you spoil us Sal, thank you
Y'all totally forgot that he pitched this to Tiff during the interview she did and seemed like he might've spilled the beans about working on the book before it was ever announced!
DWJ is one of the best storytellers in comics right now that is so underappreciated, so I love that the Dead Earth and Beta Ray Bill have been done on the couch, if only we could warrant an episode for Murder Falcon
The bill's relationship with his ship is giving me mass effect 3 vibes 😂

It’s better planning and fulfillment of premise than the current MCU. Sal and gang are the best.
This is a book that I've been planning to check out. You say Sal covered all the groundwork and story explanations one would need going into this, what're some stories I should read first to appreciate this one more?
It's our favorite horse man!
Sal (in the distance) - "He's not a horse!"
"They sing no songs in Hel. Nor do they celebrate heroes...

Still brings a tear to my eye. That one issue just hit so hard.
This comic restored my love of pro wrestling. Where ever you are, thank you Daniel Warren Johnson
I love that this sentence can exist.
Read his new series “do a powerbomb!”
Man this new season of Bojack Horseman is nuts
Also, if anybody is interested in this comic, I cannot recommend enough that you read Do A Powerbomb, also by Daniel Warren Johnson, out right now. Thanks for the info 👍🏿
Scourge kicks open the door to the bar...
"BARKEEP! WHISKEY FOR MY MEN, AND BEER FOR MY HORSE.... WHO IS ALSO MY MEN!"
I fucking loved this book, it really needs one of those giant artist editions.
I'd settle for a gallery edition. The one Marvel did for Weapon X is beautiful.
Marvelous as always. Storytelling and engagement of ideas both improve the environment. Well done ComicPop team.
Thanks!
Fun fact: Cosmic ghost rider frank castle actually does end up in Valhalla but like skurge hates it and forces odin to set him free.
32:49 Funny Ben mentioned Mad Max because that's exactly what I thought. I really want to see a Mad Max comic by DWJ. It would be so rad.
17:14: Sal channeling his inner Hulk Hogan for Skurge.
I cannot thank you enough Sal for recommending this during Off the Rack when it was coming out, I picked up every issue at release and I love the character of Bill & his design so much that I purchased my first Variant cover which was DWJ's version of Thor #337. I'm so happy to finally see this on the show!
Dammit, I didn’t know I needed this book in my life, you had me at Scourge being Bills wingman. Gotta buy this at some point.
Been waiting on this one hoo boy!
Edit: Ben and Ethan’s reactions did not disappoint. Especially Ben’s at THAT moment.
39:38 I see what you did there 😂
I think the ending was meant to be tragic. Even after he got everything he wanted, he couldn’t get over who he is.
This is the episode that made me buy a book before the video was even over
Good stuff
This book is an example of why i love comics. Daniel Warren Johnson is one of my favorite creators. Thanks guys for a great episode.
Really missed their mark with the bartender making a “long face” joke to Bill
This was the most fantastic most epic story ever read Beta Ray Bill and it’s a crime that didn’t sell more! But hopefully with this video it’s sell millions now! Also to the bottom of my heart comic pop I thank you for doing this video! And also sorry for nagging you in every video to do this series.
Outfreakinstanding!!! This episode was simply beautiful.
Bam Bam from the Flintstones was a consummate wrestler
I figured Beta Ray Bill’s theme song, similar to the cadence to the Bill Nye the Science Guy theme.
BETA RAY!
Bill
Bill
Bill
Bill
Bill
ENCHANTED HORSE MAN
I bought the trade thanks to you guys.
Bangarang, Beta-Ray!
Thanks comicpop my day has not been great but you guys help make it better!
I felt that
I’m so glad you covered this. This is the comic that got me back into comics. I love DWJ
I am soooo mad that this is the end. Bill deserves more
My first read of this year and easily made it into my top 5, just absolutely dope book. I agree Sal, it is a absolute crime it wasn't longer or in a deluxe format.
Second time watching the episode and just got myself the book. D-Dub can draw a godsdamn book.
I love that there is now a timeline of comicpop back issues ep leading to this!
BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL!
I learned about Daniel Warren Johnson when he made Jurassic League, he’s a legend!
Great story, great retelling, loved this whole story. Bought it the day the full trade issue was released!
Always great! Sal and the whole team never fails to put me in good mood in such a problematic time for me.
This story is dope AF, thanks comic pop team. Your channel is such a treasure, I'm so glad you guys do ehat you enjoy as a job. It's amazing. I'm so grateful to have seen you guys and accidentally found the channel through recommendations.

By far one of my most favorite comics of the last few years
I am ever overjoyed by Ethan's love of Hook.
I've said ir before and I'll say it again. ComicPop was my introduction to the awesomeness that is Beta Ray Bill. This book is amazing.
Comic Pop: championing comics one underrated run at a time
4:10
Could be Bill identify with Peter Pan without storm breaker he is trying to remember his happy thought
This feels less Marvel, and straight up like some Heavy Metal shit. Which I'm down with.

I LOVED the art on WW DE and am SO glad you did this book! I have zero issues (no pun intended) on throwing $ at this man.
Also sub to Daniel's channel! ua-cam.com/users/DanielWarrenJohnson1
Going to my local comic shop tomorrow, gonna look for this book. So excited to get my hands on it. Me and my Dad love Beta Ray Bill, excited to give this a read
I bought this book immediately after the episode. Huge fan of Walt Simonson's Thor run and D-Dub's spectacular art! GO BILL!
I read this last night and it’s right up there with Jason Aaron’s ‘Thanos Rising’ as a mini-series that runs beautifully from start to finish, no notes.
BILL BILL BILL BILL! God I've been waiting for this! Thank you Sal and friends!
This story was so effing fun, it reminds me _WHY_ I fell in love with comics. Not to seem negative, I'm sure it's hard to write comics, but there are so many great characters that are one good story away from greatness. It's a shame.
I love this book so much, the story is great and the art is outstanding!
Always love the oddball episodes

28:25 "You could not live with your own failure"
Damn I’m really glad your doing more beta ray bill stuff so soon!
I've been looking forward to this one. Thanks for helping my work afternoon a bit better, ComicPop!
This has been my favorite book on Back Issues and I have watched all episodes of back issues.
Awesome episode! Awesome book! Awesome horseman!
This book sounds awesome! As someone who does love Bill, I am absolutely gonna grab this!
I try to read the comics Back Issues covers before watching the videos. I'm so glad I read this one. It's one of the finest comics I've read in my life. It's unbelievably good, and it's about a cyborg alien with a horse face.
Huzzah! I was waiting for this episode!
This book is so dope. Any book this team works on is an instant pick up.
That was super good. I'm going to buy that book, you convinced me.
Anther great video!!! Thank you guys for all your hard work and excellent and entertaining content!
Daniel Warren Johnson did do a variant cover for an Alien comic, so there's that!
also lots of art to find online of him doing Xenomorphs and Predators
Excellent episode. Excellent book. Thanks guys.
I appreciate Ethan’s disgust for pip the troll because I agree lol
I've been waiting on this episode. This book is so awesome!
They actually do the gun baseball bat move for Skurge when he runs out of ammo in Ragnarok. It's the last move he does before Hella stabs him.
Odin is Glenda the good witch he gives Bill(Dorothy) the quest
Second book on this show that made me think I NEED to get my hands on this!
This looks like one of the best comics I seen in a long time. Just good ol fun and I will be buying a copy for myself.
Man I love this story
Yesssss thank you for doing the other greatest Beta Ray Bill story 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔨🔨
I love this book and thankfully read it because of Sal recommending it on Off the Rack over at Comic-Pop Returns. It's such a beautiful story and the art is fantastic.
As much as I hate bringing Skurge back from the dead because his death was so iconic for me, him coming back here and how he is used before he returns back, it was totally worth it.
I love it we Sal does a book he loves!
Literally wrestling with his demons.
Yay! this looks amazing!
Incredible. Now we must see the simonson thor run
I picked this up when you first menchond this book months ago, and it did not disappoint. This books is FIRE, buy it NOW!
Best story yet
Ok no one tell Sal, about how Cosmic Ghost Rider’s first book starts with Frank Castle in Valhalla. 😅😆
LETS GET READY TO RUUUUUMBLE!
BEEETA RAAAAY BIILLLLLLLL!
Haven't finished the episode
But truly Skurge became the MVP when he defended Bill in the bar
Hell yeah! This book is dope! I hope more people check it out. It’s so damn good.
This book is incredible it was my first DWJ book and it really made me love beta ray bill it was a great character book that was super relatable.
I loved this miniseries; it should have been made into an ongoing. Also, I don't understand how Thor had, like, a thousand hammers made at one point a few years ago but Bill couldn't get a new one......🤷
the "and Spirit" made me spit out my tea.
