James is a fucking encyclopedia it's amazing
I believe it was in gay, drag culture that older men traditionally used spoken history to teach younger people coming up and out.
I can honestly say I could sit there and hear about the history and influences of the Club Kids all day. It's such a fascinating era and had such rich, colorful characters.
Vivacious would've been perfect for this panel
Oh my gawdddd yes!!!!!
micmic11mn yes. I think they added Milk to get someone and to fill the panel, but she doesn't seem to have the knowledge and experience the others did. Vivacius (and Ornacia) would have been an interesting mix.
Lorem Ipsum You're correct, Milk doesn't have the same level of knowledge that the others have on this particular panel. Nor should she, she is half their age. However, she is someone who reflects the same openness and free spirited mindset, along with a sense of cooky and rebellious artistry that resembles those "club kids" that have come before her. That is why she was selected for this particular panel.
Lorem Ipsum I would've loved to see Ornacia
i've always felt milk was more of a club kid anyway rather than a drag queen. she's fab either way and i love her aesthetic and creativity. and, yea, to be fair she is much younger than james and a fair bit younger than the boulet bros. part of her problem is that she knows without knowing that she knows. it would take her no time at all to do a little background research to really round her out and bring her knowledge to the surface.
James need to have a second web series where he just talks about this stuff!
James is so adorable, like the grandpa/grandma you want to listen all day long while eating cookies
For anyone curious, The Queen documentary is on UA-cam, just search 'The Queen (1968)'.
Thanks
I instantly switched videos and did not regret it. All baby queens need to see it. No just for the drag but for when the queens talk about how being gay affected their family life, being in the draft, etc. One can learn so much from older queens. And realize how much privilege we have now compared to what they went through 40, 50 years ago
gorrif thank you :)
I love learning about LGBT history and I love SMART GAYS!!!!! It is fun to be silly and kooky and shady etc. etc. etc. and I love that about our culture. But it is so refreshing to witness this conversation. More please!!!!!
Milk is one of my favorite queens, she's grown so much since her season
James should be a professor. I'm learning a lot!
James is practising the old tradition of passing down history of gayness to the next generation.
This explains more

Agh, I remember James St. James from when I worked at Limelight way back in the day when I was way too young to be there. Vivacious should have been on this panel for sure. Milk is fabulous, but too young to remember anything they are talking about lol.
The documentary they refer to in the beginning of the discussion "The Queen" (1968) is on UA-cam. It really is a wonderful piece of our history. Truly remarkable.
Poor Milk... She was just there looking at this panel of old-school-drag scholars being like "Ah. There's a joke here. There, I said it".
But she did through out a good discussion topic about how nothing is new... which quickly turned to the rest of the panel educating the children (me included) in everything that's old that we think is new.
+Alecia Fluffy Presents - I thought it was great she was there because she's meant to be that other perspective to the club scene because she is from the newer generation. I wished she asked more questions
I could listen to the Boulet Brothers aaaaaall day
I love how there's like a baby whining in the background. Like who brings a baby to drag con haha
she/he is a baby drag! she's learning from infancy! hahahaha
Desmond's idiot mother...
it's mother maybe?
A fabulous mom!
People do realize that Lady Gaga has a team of fashion designers that create her looks and that each one is calculated, right? I'm sure they pull from many sources, including club kids, Leigh Bowery, etc.
Great conference (too bad it was edited and so short) and James is incredibly charismatic - you can put him in a room full of freaks and queens, my eyes (and ears) will constantly go to him. Such a presence, such a storyteller, such a captivating man.
Thank you for this video, for educating us and broaching so many topics.

If you want to hear more of that old queen accent from New York, go look up Match Game 73-79 and listen to Charles Nelson Reilly on there who was a gay man, a broadway actor, who was very "out" for the time when Match Game was on the air. But he's so hilarious and now I know that he is speaking in that old accent. I think it's so great.
Where Is Vivicous she should be there I wanna hear her story and her Herstory
Nothing quite like history from the horses mouth! Loved this!
I would love it if ***** did a series called 'Herstory' or something where it literally is videos letting us younger LGBT know our history of what came before us, Icons/Movements/Influential people/Moments what changed things forever etc etc... The internet is wonderful for finding stuff and I've came across a few good books- but I feel personally the 'meaty' content really isn't there, unless something was really commercialized it seems to have fallen under the radar. It really would be a shame for all this to just be lost in the past.
Agree totally but James is teaching history AND how to pass it down, traditional Queen,,,,,love the aging queens etc for this reason too!
Jaymes Mansfield does this series!
From all the DragCon Videos this is the most interesting, because it's the first time that I have the feeling that they have something to say. The rest is only entertaining without meaning.
I am a baby and I can honestly say I am so thankful for this video. I've learnt so much about drag history in just 35 minutes.
I could listen to the boulet brothers all day. They are so cool and interesting
I really enjoyed that , please mama RU gather old school queens together and make a series for us :)
Why wasn't Vivacious part of this panel? She would have had so much to share!
Maybe Vivacious was supposed to be there and couldn't join and that's why they pulled Milk in last minute. We'll never know.
I couldn't picture being with someone 20yrs and doing drag with them..they're literally around each other 24/7. They are def very unique and seem perfect for each other tho..so jealous😩😘.
can we talk about one of the boulet brothers not even fanning himself just fanning the god damn mic and making that horrible sound... girl.
brb *pauses video to watch The Queen*
I would love to just sit and listen to James tell me stories from his past like for always.
I love history and drag, so this was AWESOME! Thank you so much!!
I want James' jacket print as my kitchen wallpaper.... 😆
So reverential, respectful, articulate and informed.
I love James, HE KNOWS SO MANY THINGS!
Thanks for educate me
Wow this was so interesting, entertaining, medication all, and fun! Wish I was there to experience the whole discussion. Learned so much from this. Thanks for this you guys!
*entertaining, EDUCATIONAL, and fun!
(I hate iPhone/iPad's autocorrect😑)
C'mon muscle!
I just want to meet James and sit in a room doing his makeup while he talks to me for 5 days in a row about his experiences and drag history. What a wonderful panel.
This is so fascinating! I went to school for fashion design and this would have been a great class
thanks for posting, i've learnt so much!!!
This was a great interview. A lot of new history for me to research.
What James says at 9:30 hits home for me so hard ❤ I'm from Saginaw Michigan and I wrote him on Twitter and he told me one day wed have lunch and laugh about the hell that it is and I hold that so near and dear to my heart.
Thank you, this was fascinating!
I wish the camera person had shown all of the pictures that James St. James displayed.
Does anyone else think that the first black and white picture they showed of the 'Warhol Girls' at 4:29 kinda looked like Willam.
louisBdemented fuck off with that William bullshit.
i'm so tangy What Willam bullshit? All I said was that picture kinda looked like Willam, if you have issues with that that's your own problem. So FUCK OFF with your BULLSHIT!
I thought Bernadette Peters
inlovewithJLT OMG yes, I totally can see that. All 3 seem to have the same facial features and then with Bernadette's curly hair and when Willam wears a curly wig. lol
I hope the children learn to understand and revere our amazing history!
KNOWLEDGE!! N INSPIRATION N AFFIRMATION OF SELF EXPRESSION, LOVE THE BOULET BROTHERS
i loved this panel...i dont like how it abruptly ended though...i wanted more!
Milk looks like she's strong as hell now, that crossfit is working!!
Wow that guy with the flower jacket is really interesting to listen to, he's like a book that knows everything. Cool guy. Cool video too thanks!
I love that they touched on the history and truth Trail Blazers of drag!!!
We NEED to do a video with you James! ❤️
Such an amazing herstory lesson
WHERE THE HELL IS VIVACIOUS?!
The documentary, The Queen (1968), is available on UA-cam free!
OMFG IM LITERALLY GOOGLING RYAN BURKE FIVE SECONDS BEFORE HE SAID THAT
Timothy Brown sorry... do you know the name of the one at 17:37? The one that died 20 years ago and James still misses?
I think its leigh bowry
Timothy Brown Thank you
I love the way ppl spoke in the 40s to70s.
I went to my first drag show two weeks ago and there was a queen that looked exactly like Leigh Bowery it shocked me! I had to explain it to everyone!!!
8:50 little edie story
I was there omg it was so great. Serious T was spilled lmao
12:00 omg. The shade. Milk was like "would you be my party monster manager?", and James was like "eh... (nervous laugh).. Changes the subject". He never talks about that.
20:50 He talked a little bit about it.
I love Jamess' laugh
I have a shit ton of Waltpaper's pictures, he was sooooooooo fucking amazing and inspiring, I absolutely love him.
...and have you seen him now¡!? he's a fucking daddy...
EdgarVenomous nunca espere encontrar un comentario tuyo aquí. Jajaja
They mentioned Dianne and other people/things I like!
It's weird when the mentioned Rym Burke and How original, when I see him I see The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence... it is very Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence
As long it stays fun and playfully scary and never turn into a different embodiment.
Its mostly just to socialize and be creative.
LIVED James suit!
Umm Dragcon was like 2 months ago
What are the boulet brothers headpieces made out of? it looks like leather or foam, I NEED TO KNOW!!!
I just wish that "The Queen" was 50 hours long. So. Good.
Oh gosh Milk muscle !
grown some mucle...
Najmi Jimmie milk does the body good
Najmi Jimmie you missed such a perfect pun opportunity... "'muscle milk"
i remember Walt Paper (sp?) on the Joan Rivers interview !!
I love you guy hats .These right here are sickaning.
It's sad most of the club kids are either gone, want to move on and forget, or are too afraid to show themselves
James st James makes me feel better about myself
to quote my favorite character from will and grace, Jack. Confuse me? but milk is fucking gorgeous!!!! and still is.
They did James dirty with the thumbnail
great panel
💜james💜
This just confirms what I've always thought, I was born in the wrong decade, I should've be born sooner!
How old are The Boulet Bros???
Giving circus bugs from a bugs life realness
Milk laughed and looked at herself when she said natural beauty lmao
hey, can someone tell me who the guy named John is, idk if im not hearing his last name correctly but they compared Kayvon Zand to him?
John Sex. Look up Nelson Sullivan videos on UA-cam and there are scenes with him at the clubs...part of the club kids era, NY 1980’s
I remember diane Brill on talk shows
NOOOOOOO ANDY WARHOL WAS NOT A JUDGE IN THE MOVIE QUEEN!!! get yo facts hanny! The MC says she wanted to get Andy to come but she couldn't because he was filming a movie in his factory when CRYSTAL accused them of fixing the pageant for HARLOW.
God damn Milk has some fucking guns!
I would live more of this discussion on gay and drag History please another session/series. Xo's
JamesJamesJaaaames!
Where is Michael Alig?
And of course hilarious!
Crystal La Beija spoke in patois because she was Caribbean. Black Queens are marginalized n gay culture just like in society at large
Rupaul at 19:40 !
I really love milk, but that look? ..
Her look on the second day of Drag Con was amazing tho.
I want to come to a event you guys give
In NY .BE GLAD WHEN THIS DAMN PANDEMICK IS OVER .
I’m glad it’s don’t just me who thinks milk doesn’t belong in this panel, no shade, all t she’s nothing compared to the B.B. and JSJ.... thank you, V and Ornatia on this panel would have SNAPPED
Sad they skip over David Bowie, who was the very first one to wear makeup, female hair, shoes and clothes, back as far as the mid sixties.
❤❤❤❤ماما❤❤❤❤
Milk❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤❤❤حبيبتي❤❤❤
Didn't Michael pass away?
Ohh...Drag Name: Egg Selente or Agg Selent
I wonder why they focused just on club kids and others and not speak on Sylvester or Willie Ninja the Man who introduced voguing to America during the Ball days in NY Paris is Burning
Melissa Diamond I always wondered that. Different scenes?
No gender hacking before the '80s? How do they not credit Bowie? The Boulet Brothers even lifted their name from his song The Bewlay Brothers
