  • In this video, I'm going to demonstrate how to perform steep turns as well as share some of the "cheat codes" that my instructors taught me back when I was in flight school. If you want to pass your private pilot check ride, mastering steep turns is critical!
    Thanks for watching!

    I've been a licensed private pilot now for over 26 years. When I learned those steep turns in an older Cessna, it was a attitude indicator...much tougher. You're right, more important to look outside and keep that horizon at the same location along your windshield view.

    The biggest issue I had was getting uncoordinated on initial roll in. That nose down from the compensation would trip me up and start oscilating through the turn. "Dutch roll" practice helped me work through this. Thanks Trent!

    Steep turns are my least favorite maneuver right now. It’s so many things to scan through and just a little lapse in attention can get you outside standards really quick it seems like. I appreciate these tips.
    Is there a review video coming for your thoughts on the Remos GX? Looks like a really fun aircraft but I don’t know anybody who has one. Im interested to hear your thoughts on pros or cons.

    Great video! Is the DPE looking at 100ft difference between the start and end altitudes or do they expect you to stay within that 200 ft window throughout the entire maneuver?

    • @trent_dyrsmid
      @trent_dyrsmid  11 місяців тому

      They expect you to stay within the tolerances that are explained in the airman certification standards.

    We have an artificial horizon in our Cessna's attitude indicator. I reckon same 'meatball principle' applies?

    • @trent_dyrsmid
      @trent_dyrsmid  Рік тому

      Yes, as long as there is not too much latency in that instrument.

    As I was doing steep turn on my flight review my instructor said I wasn’t coordinate. I enjoyed this video. But I notice the ball was always outside the window. The ACS says it has to be coordinated. What am I missing? What is a DPE looking for as far as coordinated? Thanks in advance. Love your videos.

      Yours was the first video I found. Since then I found others and the ball was slipping or sliding. The only video I found perfect was on a simulator. Strange. Thanks for the quick reply and all you do for aviation.

      @ happy to help. Normally I do steep turns in a 172. With enough trim, you can take your hands and feet off the controls and the ball stays centered and the plane just flies perfect steep turns. The plane in this video is a lightsport and it’s pretty unstable compared to a 172.

    Great explanations, but the demonstration was lacking a bit. You talked about using rudder and maintaining coordination but that ball was pegged outside the cage the whole time and completely uncoordinated.
