I love the AirMax 90 and the Infrared color way was the shoe that started my love for Sneakers back in the day so I will always be partial to the AirMax lineup so seeing firsthand what Tinker envisioned is sweet. I would love to see if Nike can do this with other silhouettes especially Jordan Brand. Tinker will always be a legend and if Nike can pay more homage to the legend of Tinker Hatfield it would bring more story telling to sneaker culture.
For me, the current air max 1’s are the WRONG pair. Bubble feels too small. THIS is the correct one, THIS is the one I see as the air max 1, THIS is the version that was in the ads, so THIS is the TRUE air max 1
i love the big bubble, since I always loved sci-fi aesthetics in sneakers that often gave a nice juxtaposition with the classic/conventional shape of leather or nylon uppers or vise versa. like jacque said, I also thought about "What if nike makes big bubble aj3 ha.ha.ha" for a split second when i saw the first leaks....and I hope thats not the timeline we get
Doesn't bother me at all, I have multiple pairs of AM1's with the smaller air bubble but I knew the story of the big bubble version already and like the fact they're bringing them back.
I remember a kid that was a grade above me at my school who I was in cub scouts with had these with the actual big bubble. I became obsessed with them, just so cool.
This is just like when they brought the OG cut of the 11s back. Everyone, including me, said they looked like fakes. And now everyone is used to it and has no issue.
I like this air unit much better. I rocked the AM 1's but the BW have always looked better so I had many more pairs of them.I was BEYOND happy with the AM Zero's, only draw back with them is they are a 1 piece and don't have a stand alone tongue. The BIG BUBBLE is a hit and a piece of history for the shoe.
Jacques, if you ever own a pair of Auto Max Infrared, you will understand with the "big bubble". I have a pair of the Auto Max and looking at this OG AM1 release is like Auto Max just paying an homage to it. I think the big bubble AM1 looks fine and its interesting how Nike is digging out some of the archive concept which Tinker Hatfield did starting with his Concept "Swoosh" AJ3. Definitely will cop the AM1 "Big Bubble" as long the hype ain't all that crazy like the Re-imagined AJ3 and Lost and Found AJ1 which is near impossible to get on day 1 release.
I bought these and the GOLF pair and I must say...the GOLF pair needs a comparison video because it's the winner. The midsole is a gloss white, the air bag has a blue tint and overall it's slightly slimmer height. The traction is a plus to me and the biggest win is the toebox is WATERPROOF.
This is the best retro of this iconic sneaker that we could have wishes for. It is a 1:1 copy of the original. To me, it’s perfection: classic cw, exact copy, more comfortable than many AM1s.
I got my winning raffle result today for these, then saw a restock of the new balance x stone island 574 so got them too then I saw the Ronnie Fieg x clarks x adidas sambas were up for preorder so got 2 versions of those. Been a long day 😳 and it’s only 1.30pm here 😅
I literally had 9 raffles, and I tried on bodega, and saint alfred's right at 9 am. As well on snkrs app. Took 12 L's. My daughter and my niece both tried for me on the snkrs app. And they both hit for me in a sz 13. WHich is crazy because my daughter got a W on the shock drop last week. Couldn't believe I took all them L's. But I'm glad I got 2 pairs coming. Fire shoe. No complaints from me. Looking forward tothe royal blue big bubble release. AIrmax 1's is tied for my favorite shoe of all time.
The big bubble doesn't bother me, just the midsole towards the toe looks a bit chunky & doesn't come to the nice slim taper that my brain is programed to agree with. Maybe they'll grow on me. The history lesson was dope too 👌🏼

I grew up with the smaller bubble window Air Max 1s, but ever since I got into sneakers almost 7 years ago now and first saw the original ads of the Air Max 1 with the giant bubble I just kept thinking to myself “man, it would be awesome to see those released”, and here we are in 2023 and Nike released them. I got a pair (for retail) and I couldn’t be happier. I now have a hard time seeing the Air Max 1 in any other way than the big bubble version.
I dig sneaker history, but Karhu invented Air Cushioning in the ‘70s. Nike maybe introduced it in the U.S.? Everything but that miss on Karhu was really good. I agree… The shoe is the story. adidas engineers have been screaming that for a minute, so it’s good to hear someone at your level put out there. ✌🏽💙👟

The bubble doesnt throw me off that much. Based on your overview, it makes the shoe unique in its own way. Honestly, I kinda hope that Nike recreates older shoes that have a similar story. They can definitely revive those shoes with todays manufacturing techniques and advanced materials.

I'm from DC. We've been on sneakers since the early 80's. This release, among a few others, was a popular release of 1987. My older brother had them. All the hustlers had them. When it comes to anniversary releases, it's good to see NIKE finally maintain the OG look. They definitely have dropped to ball on other silhouettes.
To me i like what they did with L&Fs/Reimagined shoes BUT i think its corny like the whole aged vintage trend. I love the idea of vintage shirts (not dingy) & such. But i feel like Nike is doing (again) a disservice by not upgraded the shoes with better tech BUT keeping the original look. Kobe wanted it for his shoes & got it (believe only with the 1s) respect the iconic looks but give us better comfort

The main difference is the traction. The Golf version has a deeper traction groove for the course. They also usually added some limited water proofing to the golf versions to help them repel water. Otherwise, they are the same shoe. The golf version also tends to cost more.
This might be a unpopular opinion, but I prefer the big bubble. I’ve been a a AM1 fan my whole life, but I have kinda grown board with it, and have started to feel it looks kinda basic and flat. For me the big bubble breathes new life into the silhouettes, making it look more angular and exaggerated in the best way possible.
Back in the late 80's and 90's the air unit was always big, they stopped the original air unit back in 2003, climate change due to the gas they used 🙄 we now have the tiny air unit which is well crap to be honest! Nike needs and should put this air unit in all the air max trainers/sneakers instead of the tiny 3 column one's we get now

The Air Max 1 as everyone knows it came out in 1987, but this Big Bubble version (the first version) actually came out in 1986.

Got the OG and OG golf the golf pair are not as wide as the normal OGS so a bit tight at the front bit still look 🔥
