In fact my husband gave him his first feed. I know breast is supposed to be best but never never feel guilty if you decide it’s not for you. My son is now a very healthy 6ft 6ins adult. X

Its always lovely to hear other peoples birth journeys. as someone who has had 2 miscarriage's, full term stillbirth and two other difficult pregnancies and births that gave me my beautiful boys I believe all stories should be told not just the perfect dream pregnancies and births we always hear about. I wish the saying would change from breast is best to fed is best, as long as bub and mum are happy and healthy it doesn't matter how bub is fed just that they are. Also I absolutely adore your kitchen!! and can't wait to see the new garden space your creating.

I'm 70 and would love to hear your birth stories. My daughter-in-law struggled to heartbreaking degree to nurse her first born and her daughter was screaming, so hungry. Turns out she had almost no milk at all. I had the opposite problem, nearly drown my daughter then got a painful crack and gave up. Sometimes the bottle is best. No one should EVER guilt a mother. Think nursing coaches have a lot to answer for.
The only thing that upsets me with some breast feeding counsellors and advocates is the seemingly unswerving attitude that everyone can breast feed if they keep going. I just can’t get behind that knowing how it was for me. I do think many may give up a bit soon and with support would have managed to continue but when you have a tired, worried mother in pain and a fractious, screaming baby…that’s when a well time bottled feels like the answer and for me it was. X

Gayna - as always, your vlogs are the best. Thank you for sharing your birth stories - I wasn’t able to conceive…we had 5 miscarriages (along with IVF and an ectopic). I was DONE. We became Foster parents and then adopted our son was he was 7 - we fostered him from birth until that point and he is a very sweet 14 yr old now. Anyhow - what a gift to hear your story. ❤

Ingenious idea for non yolk spillage! Boiled eggs for tea this afternoon. We came back home on the train earlier, changed trains at Brustol, pasties for lunch, so we only need a light tea. Do you only use your Aga in the winter? It reminds Steve and I of when we used to go to his parents house. They had a Jack Russell who used to like to squeeze himself between us when we were sat on the floor with our backs against their Aga!
Yes it’s too hot in the summer to run the aga and these days the expense is astronomical so we hardly had it turned on over the winter. I was blooming cold!!!
Love your stories and frankness whatever they be! I was a militant breast feeder after resolving the immense pain I I had with my first born during the first couple of months. My husband was a family doctor and asked if I would try as long as I could. Anyway, odd issue and it got resolved . The funny moment was after our second was born a formula rep. heard about my lengthy breastfeeding and was kind enough to give my husband a cartoon representing a militant breastfeeding mom. It was hilarious! With that said I was very close to stopping and have supported many who have stopped. Part of being a parent is choosing what is best for the child and you as, well, the child may not survive if momma loses it.
I love that! How fun. I have to say the pain I experienced with feeding Wilf in particular was like nothing I have ever experienced in my life before or since. It was fainting pain. Shaking pain. It made me dread every noise Wilf made in case I had to pop him on again. I’m so sad o could t work through it but I have it a really good go. And I have to be content with that and let it go.

Love Love Love to watch you cook! One of my favorites things you do. I tried breast feeding my daughter and I wanted to so bad. Besides it being very painful I also bled out blood, and it wasn't from my breasts being sore or chapped. I was heartbroken.
Oh Wilf, that comment about the 'pasta bake' had me laughing, (did he eat any), it looked delicious to me. Toby looked to be enjoying it. Your garden is so pretty, Spring to early Summer is a beautiful time for the garden. I breast fed all three of mine to varying lengths, but I had to stop with James, my second born, after a few months as my nipples were bleeding and it hurt so bloody much like you said, I also have a high pain threshold but would be in tears, I even attempted to pump but they still hurt and still bled...funnily enough he and I are so close, always tells me he loves me, big hugs and kisses when he sees me, he is 35 now. xx

I don’t really menu plan. I sometimes get things in for specific meals but often I take a look at what I have and cobble something together. I used to menu plan and shop diligently when I was still finding my way around cooking but now I wing it most of the time. Because I buy half a pig and half a cow and a lamb once a year from local farmers I have to use up the cuts we get and some aren’t ones I would choose so I am guided by that a lot. I do have To Do lists but most of the time I’m slotting in little tasks I can do in my time windows. Of course it all looks organised and streamlines on a vlog but the reality is often me stood there muttering about what to do next and feeling overwhelmed by the huge ironing pile, paperwork pile and a dozen other things. Everything gets done in the end though!

If it has not been for bottles to give my poor boobs a chance to recover, both would have starved! There is so much pressure put on new mums to do the “right” thing. A happy mum and a happy baby are all that matters!
Totally agree with you re; breastfeeding. That sore pain is off the scale, then my milk dried up for my first born. I had 3 more and bottle fed from the start as the memory of that first time was horrendous. I laughed so much when you put 'putting icing sugar on a turd' 😂, you do cheer me up Gaynor x
I'm 37 almost 38 and I'd love to hear your birth experiences. I had my babies at 21 (almost 22) and 23 and mine were not as I'd envisaged. Nearly all the vloggers I watch are slightly older than me and I think of you all as crafty big sisters as I'm an only child xx
I had cysts when trying to nurse my first - at the time the "remedy" was to drink some beer while nursing. I ended up bottle feeding both my kids and have no regrets. Nurturing comes in many forms including baking cakes and bread to feed a house full of hungry boys.

My poor daughter gave birth to a 10lb 2oz baby boy 16 years ago. She breast fed, but she was in agony and even bled. I would sit next to her and hold her hand. We asked everyone for advice. She managed a few months but when he turned one they found out he was tongue tied. They didn’t even check for it when she was going through so much pain. He is still tongue tied but doesn’t have a problem with it other than not being able to stick his tongue out.
I was exactly the same with my daughter and after 4 weeks she still hadn’t gained her birth weight back so I had to put her on a bottle by which time I was deeply depressed and not coping. I went to NCT classes and it was totally frowned upon.
Some of them you can change the sensitivity and that stops them hitting the walls, I forget what make ours is but we did change it’s setting. We do call him noisy (he’s pretty loud 😂)

Your energy is truly spectacular. I love working with my hands, as you do. But I cook only for myself and sometimes my husband. My gardens are little (urban). I am a bit obsessive about the knitting 🙂I have been known to pretend I have a cooking show while making food (which I undertake far too sporadically, in all honesty) and I find it fun and hilarious that you are actually filming a cooking show! BBC should cut you a deal for a series on modern country life. Managers of large families and properties need to be seen.
Gayna, I love how your beautiful home is so functional….that utility room is so nice. And that slide out toaster shelf is brilliant. I wish my craft room was on the main floor like yours instead of upstairs…..I know I’m lucky to have a dedicated room at all but sometimes out of site is out of mind and I let it get cluttered way too much. All your flowers are looking so good. Love watching you cook and clean up ( I too, hate to touch raw meat but I love to eat meat so….). ❤ enjoy your outside hangout and the fire!

I’ve always felt guilty because I couldn’t breastfeed. I had a very long labour and a difficult birth and just no milk at all. To cap it all off I had post natal depression too. On doctor’s recommendation we only had one baby 😂

I find no matter what I say to myself there’s always that niggle in the back of my mind that says “if you’d done one more feed maybe you could have pushed through” but I know I was at my wits end both times it didn’t work out for me. Usually it goes the other way round, it works out the second and third time but that’s not my story. I really must sit and chat about it more because it seems to be helpful. Try not to feel guilty, we all do what we can with what we have at the time. Bless you. Xxx
I had my Chris by emergency caesarean and it was 4 days before I was over a fever to nurse him myself. I was then told my poor solid melons really needed to nourish my poor baby without the nurses expressing me for him. They insisted that I was just sensitive to him latching for a couple of days before they realised he had teeth and may have had a point as to why it hurt so much. 🫣🙄 Daughter was a breeze by comparison! Thankfully 😊
I tried with you, only lasted 6 weeks, you cried constantly. Your Dad was not happy that I put you on a bottle. At least I knew you were full and fed well. Xx
I agree, breastfeeding is not for everyone. If it doesn't work for you , DON'T feel guilty. It's a personal thing, you do the best for you and your baby and that's all that matters 😊 Loving Vlogmays x

Eugh people who push breast feeding, I felt your rant! When I had my daughter 8years ago, my daught was very over due and couldnt latch on. I had major problems breast feeding her and knew formula would help her thrive!! The breast feeding supposed specialist wanted me to push on, eugh she really annoyed me!! Im here for your rants!! Thank you for another fun busy day (maybe too busy for you but fun to watch!! ) I have to tell you, way back when I had the same experience as you with breast feeding. Finally pediatrician said to me, baby not gaining or getting enough nutrition, need to go to formula, - difficult , but baby most important so, that was that -. Had 3 children also. Don’t you love bacon in the oven, I think of all the years I did on top of the stove and the mess!!! Then watched “Ina Garten” cooking show and she did in oven, I said to hubby - thats it from now on and easy peazy!! .
I too am probably a lot more than 10 years older than you but I still remember the sense of failure when I couldn;t breast feed my youngest (prem) child after successfully feeding the first two. As mothers the experience stays with you. ps love the crusty toenail pasta bake!

Do you put your eggs in the water once it has reached a rolling boil and then time it 5 mins, or do you put the eggs in cold and then time it once the boil starts? I’m a disaster with boiled eggs. Ours are always room temp. I don’t have any kids but I know my mum found breastfeeding impossible because of the pain, and even in ‘68 and ‘72 when she had my sister and me, she was tutted at by the nurses and other mothers and felt guilty.
Totally agree with you about the pain of breastfeeding! I fed my first child till I got mastitis when he was 4 months didn’t even try to feed the second cos only 17 months apart third one was bloody agony but I kept trying for about a week by which time both baby and I were bad tempered and upset and hubby insisted we try a bottle which baby totally loved and thrived from then on. He’s 40 now and 6’4” and rarely gets ill so I say give up if you need to It is wonderful when it works but as you say it doesn’t work for everyone. Your garden is gorgeous. X

Please chat about your pregnancies etc as the majority of us will relate I’m sure, having experienced many miscarriages myself but now I’m the blessed mum of three beautiful children, also, just to say the topic of breast feeding, I myself fed my first and second son for a year+ but with my daughter like you, I was in agony and tried so hard through that pain but my yield just wasn’t enough, after eight weeks I had to stop ( health visitor’s advise too), I was heartbroken but like you, my daughters health was more important . When I had my first daughter, the doctor was adamant about me breast feeding. I was just 20 years old and overwhelmed. I decided not to breast feed. My doctor neglected to give me something to dry up my milk. In 3 days I was in agony and my mom had to bind my chest. I felt like such a failure at 20 years old with a newborn. My daughter grew up big and strong on formula. Everyone is different and should not be shamed on any decision they make.
I couldn't breastfeed because I was living on a whole cocktail of drugs due to many health conditions and I made a conscious decision not to listen to everyone telling me breast was best. I had no choice and I knew it would do me no good listening to them. You have to do what is best for you and your baby. Loving your vlogs xx
O my god the breastfeeding thing just really got to me. A fed child is best. I really struggled with breastfeeding. Would definitely be interested in hearing more about your berthing experience.
Re: breastfeeding, I think that each case is individual and that women need to make these decisions for themselves and shouldn’t be made to feel guilty. I was allergic to milk and so my mum couldn’t breastfeed me.
You do make me laugh. The cake I can relate to that. The garden I need to motivate myself and you help me do this - Question does anyone in your family ever say how great the garden is looking/ take an interest? (me neither). Breastfeeding was absolutely excruciating so went onto formula and my children are healthy twenty somethings. I am your demographic plus a bit. Just keep doing what you're doing

Hello! I've been a very long time, silent watcher. I think I found your little channel four or five years ago now, before I was married or had my child, which is wild for me to think about. Anyway, I'm a new mum, gave birth to my son almost two years ago now and I would love to hear about your own birthing/motherhood experiences. I couldn't breastfeed my baby because of some similar reasons, but he also had tongue tie which made it near impossible to feed him. I tried everything, tried to push through the pain or find other ways to breastfeed him with pumping and such, because of the massive guilt from people and other mums close to me that said I would be a failure as a mother if I couldn't. They loved to tell me my child wouldn't bond properly if I switched him to formula. But I had to switch him, for his health and my own mental health, and he's a perfectly healthy and happy 20 month old causing chaos and loads of laughs wherever he is, giving lots of cuddles and kisses to me and my husband. I can't stand that I had to buy formula, for the awful things the companies are apart of/do but without it, my son wouldn't have lived or grown to be the massive toddler he is now. It infuriates me how there is still so much stigma around people choosing to use formula. Seems I've gone on my own rant, but yeah, back to the main point here- would love to hear whatever you want to share on your birthing and motherhood! It’s so unkind for people to say that to you! I always found the eye contact when bottle feeding so much more direct that you can’t not bond! Honestly people have no idea what they are doing to a mum who is struggling to feed when they make comments like that. I hope you aren’t in touch with those people anymore as they don’t sound like they have your best interests at heart. You poor thing, that must have been so upsetting on top of the distress you already felt. X
Oh yes please, do tell about your births etc. I am more than ten years older and can confirm that not everyone can breast feed and they should never be made to feel guilty about that. When in hospital having given birth to my baby, I was able to feed some prem babies whose mothers could not. I had loads of milk but the mothers didn’t have any and their babies needed it. ❤
As a breastfeeding counsellor of 30 years, your story makes me so sad 😞 You were not given the best advice, and you certainly don't have to push through pain. There is always a why when breastfeeding isn't going well and that needs to be identified and resolved. You said you haemorrhaged: that is very likely why your supply was delayed in onset. And your baby had jaundice, another clear reason for delay as jaundiced babies are too sleepy to remove milk effectively to establish supply. Painful latch is not normal but a sign the baby needs to take more breast tissue into their mouth, which can be a challenge for sleepy babies. I wish I had been able to support you through all this. But don't accept the label of not being able to breastfeed - you faced multiple challenges, which needed specialised support to overcome.
You’re right I probably didn’t receive the best advice or support. The whole thing was (and still is) a cause for sadness. I was in so much pain, utterly exhausted and had two other small boys to care for. Toby was unable to take much time off work either so I was alone. It was a pretty awful time. I couldn’t even get on the stairs in one go as I was so weak. One comfort is I look back and still can’t see how I could have done anything different at the time. Maybe if the internet back then was as it is now I could have found out more or found some decent help and support. X

Love Love Love to watch you cook! One of my favorites things you do. I tried breast feeding my daughter and I wanted to so bad. Besides it being very painful I also bled out blood, and it wasn't from my breasts being sore or chapped. I was heartbroken.

I breast fed all three of mine to varying lengths, but I had to stop with James, my second born, after a few months as my nipples were bleeding and it hurt so bloody much like you said, I also have a high pain threshold but would be in tears, I even attempted to pump but they still hurt and still bled...funnily enough he and I are so close, always tells me he loves me, big hugs and kisses when he sees me, he is 35 now. xx

I'm always so impressed with how much you accomplish in a day - it all seems so naturally organized and efficient! (If you have a secret planner with loads of lists, that's OK too - but I might start asking to see your menu plans!) Anyhow, great to see the garden, the kitchen, hear your stories, and know you got some evening time in the hang out!
I don’t really menu plan. I sometimes get things in for specific meals but often I take a look at what I have and cobble something together. I used to menu plan and shop diligently when I was still finding my way around cooking but now I wing it most of the time. Because I buy half a pig and half a cow and a lamb once a year from local farmers I have to use up the cuts we get and some aren’t ones I would choose so I am guided by that a lot. I do have To Do lists but most of the time I’m slotting in little tasks I can do in my time windows. Of course it all looks organised and streamlines on a vlog but the reality is often me stood there muttering about what to do next and feeling overwhelmed by the huge ironing pile, paperwork pile and a dozen other things. Everything gets done in the end though!

Thank you for talking about how hard and painful breastfeeding can be. I have two children and I found it super painful. If it has not been for bottles to give my poor boobs a chance to recover, both would have starved! There is so much pressure put on new mums to do the “right” thing. A happy mum and a happy baby are all that matters!
Totally agree with you re; breastfeeding. That sore pain is off the scale, then my milk dried up for my first born. I had 3 more and bottle fed from the start as the memory of that first time was horrendous.

I'm 37 almost 38 and I'd love to hear your birth experiences. I had my babies at 21 (almost 22) and 23 and mine were not as I'd envisaged. Nearly all the vloggers I watch are slightly older than me and I think of you all as crafty big sisters as I'm an only child xx

I had cysts when trying to nurse my first - at the time the "remedy" was to drink some beer while nursing. I ended up bottle feeding both my kids and have no regrets. Nurturing comes in many forms including baking cakes and bread to feed a house full of hungry boys.

My poor daughter gave birth to a 10lb 2oz baby boy 16 years ago. She breast fed, but she was in agony and even bled. I would sit next to her and hold her hand. We asked everyone for advice. She managed a few months but when he turned one they found out he was tongue tied. They didn’t even check for it when she was going through so much pain. He is still tongue tied but doesn’t have a problem with it other than not being able to stick his tongue out.

I was exactly the same with my daughter and after 4 weeks she still hadn’t gained her birth weight back so I had to put her on a bottle by which time I was deeply depressed and not coping. I went to NCT classes and it was totally frowned upon.
You will love your robot, mine only vacuums but I love it, my husband though hates it as it bangs into the walls.

Some of them you can change the sensitivity and that stops them hitting the walls, I forget what make ours is but we did change it’s setting. We do call him noisy (he’s pretty loud 😂)

Your energy is truly spectacular. I love working with my hands, as you do. But I cook only for myself and sometimes my husband. My gardens are little (urban). I am a bit obsessive about the knitting 🙂I have been known to pretend I have a cooking show while making food (which I undertake far too sporadically, in all honesty) and I find it fun and hilarious that you are actually filming a cooking show! BBC should cut you a deal for a series on modern country life. Managers of large families and properties need to be seen.
Gayna, I love how your beautiful home is so functional….that utility room is so nice. And that slide out toaster shelf is brilliant. I wish my craft room was on the main floor like yours instead of upstairs…..I know I’m lucky to have a dedicated room at all but sometimes out of site is out of mind and I let it get cluttered way too much. All your flowers are looking so good. Love watching you cook and clean up ( I too, hate to touch raw meat but I love to eat meat so….). ❤ enjoy your outside hangout and the fire!

I’ve always felt guilty because I couldn’t breastfeed. I had a very long labour and a difficult birth and just no milk at all. To cap it all off I had post natal depression too. On doctor’s recommendation we only had one baby 😂

I had 2 babies in the past 2 years, 2 very different experiences with breastfeeding, but feeling guilty about the whole thing about the whole breast is best thing…. So hearing an ‘established’ real mom talk about it helps so much. Btw I’m 10 years younger than you, skewing your stats there 😉
I find no matter what I say to myself there’s always that niggle in the back of my mind that says “if you’d done one more feed maybe you could have pushed through” but I know I was at my wits end both times it didn’t work out for me. Usually it goes the other way round, it works out the second and third time but that’s not my story. I really must sit and chat about it more because it seems to be helpful. Try not to feel guilty, we all do what we can with what we have at the time. Bless you. Xxx

I had my Chris by emergency caesarean and it was 4 days before I was over a fever to nurse him myself. I was then told my poor solid melons really needed to nourish my poor baby without the nurses expressing me for him. They insisted that I was just sensitive to him latching for a couple of days before they realised he had teeth and may have had a point as to why it hurt so much. 🫣🙄 Daughter was a breeze by comparison! Thankfully 😊
I tried with you, only lasted 6 weeks, you cried constantly. Your Dad was not happy that I put you on a bottle. At least I knew you were full and fed well. Xx

Eugh people who push breast feeding, I felt your rant! When I had my daughter 8years ago, my daught was very over due and couldnt latch on. I had major problems breast feeding her and knew formula would help her thrive!! The breast feeding supposed specialist wanted me to push on, eugh she really annoyed me!! Im here for your rants!! And im so jealous of your garden, just beautiful!!

Thank you for another fun busy day (maybe too busy for you but fun to watch!! ) I have to tell you, way back when I had the same experience as you with breast feeding. Finally pediatrician said to me, baby not gaining or getting enough nutrition, need to go to formula, - difficult , but baby most important so, that was that -. Had 3 children also. Don’t you love bacon in the oven, I think of all the years I did on top of the stove and the mess!!! Then watched “Ina Garten” cooking show and she did in oven, I said to hubby - thats it from now on and easy peazy!! .
I too am probably a lot more than 10 years older than you but I still remember the sense of failure when I couldn;t breast feed my youngest (prem) child after successfully feeding the first two. As mothers the experience stays with you. ps love the crusty toenail pasta bake!

Do you put your eggs in the water once it has reached a rolling boil and then time it 5 mins, or do you put the eggs in cold and then time it once the boil starts? I’m a disaster with boiled eggs. Ours are always room temp. I don’t have any kids but I know my mum found breastfeeding impossible because of the pain, and even in ‘68 and ‘72 when she had my sister and me, she was tutted at by the nurses and other mothers and felt guilty.
Bless your mum. Get the water boiling. Then it’s 5 mins for a room temp large egg. Yum! I want one now 😂

Totally agree with you about the pain of breastfeeding! I fed my first child till I got mastitis when he was 4 months didn’t even try to feed the second cos only 17 months apart third one was bloody agony but I kept trying for about a week by which time both baby and I were bad tempered and upset and hubby insisted we try a bottle which baby totally loved and thrived from then on. He’s 40 now and 6’4” and rarely gets ill so I say give up if you need to It is wonderful when it works but as you say it doesn’t work for everyone. Your garden is gorgeous. X

Please chat about your pregnancies etc as the majority of us will relate I’m sure, having experienced many miscarriages myself but now I’m the blessed mum of three beautiful children, also, just to say the topic of breast feeding, I myself fed my first and second son for a year+ but with my daughter like you, I was in agony and tried so hard through that pain but my yield just wasn’t enough, after eight weeks I had to stop ( health visitor’s advise too), I was heartbroken but like you, my daughters health was more important . When I had my first daughter, the doctor was adamant about me breast feeding. I was just 20 years old and overwhelmed. I decided not to breast feed. My doctor neglected to give me something to dry up my milk. In 3 days I was in agony and my mom had to bind my chest. I felt like such a failure at 20 years old with a newborn. My daughter grew up big and strong on formula. Everyone is different and should not be shamed on any decision they make.
I couldn't breastfeed because I was living on a whole cocktail of drugs due to many health conditions and I made a conscious decision not to listen to everyone telling me breast was best. I had no choice and I knew it would do me no good listening to them. You have to do what is best for you and your baby. Loving your vlogs xx

Re: breastfeeding, I think that each case is individual and that women need to make these decisions for themselves and shouldn’t be made to feel guilty. I was allergic to milk and so my mum couldn’t breastfeed me.

You do make me laugh. The cake I can relate to that. The garden I need to motivate myself and you help me do this - Question does anyone in your family ever say how great the garden is looking/ take an interest? (me neither). Breastfeeding was absolutely excruciating so went onto formula and my children are healthy twenty somethings. I am your demographic plus a bit. Just keep doing what you're doing

Hello! I've been a very long time, silent watcher. I think I found your little channel four or five years ago now, before I was married or had my child, which is wild for me to think about. Anyway, I'm a new mum, gave birth to my son almost two years ago now and I would love to hear about your own birthing/motherhood experiences. I couldn't breastfeed my baby because of some similar reasons, but he also had tongue tie which made it near impossible to feed him. I tried everything, tried to push through the pain or find other ways to breastfeed him with pumping and such, because of the massive guilt from people and other mums close to me that said I would be a failure as a mother if I couldn't. They loved to tell me my child wouldn't bond properly if I switched him to formula. But I had to switch him, for his health and my own mental health, and he's a perfectly healthy and happy 20 month old causing chaos and loads of laughs wherever he is, giving lots of cuddles and kisses to me and my husband. I can't stand that I had to buy formula, for the awful things the companies are apart of/do but without it, my son wouldn't have lived or grown to be the massive toddler he is now. It infuriates me how there is still so much stigma around people choosing to use formula. Seems I've gone on my own rant, but yeah, back to the main point here- would love to hear whatever you want to share on your birthing and motherhood! Hope you're having a wonderful day/night whenever, or if ever, you read this comment
It’s so unkind for people to say that to you! I always found the eye contact when bottle feeding so much more direct that you can’t not bond! Honestly people have no idea what they are doing to a mum who is struggling to feed when they make comments like that. I hope you aren’t in touch with those people anymore as they don’t sound like they have your best interests at heart. You poor thing, that must have been so upsetting on top of the distress you already felt. X

Oh yes please, do tell about your births etc. I am more than ten years older and can confirm that not everyone can breast feed and they should never be made to feel guilty about that. When in hospital having given birth to my baby, I was able to feed some prem babies whose mothers could not. I had loads of milk but the mothers didn’t have any and their babies needed it. ❤

As a breastfeeding counsellor of 30 years, your story makes me so sad 😞 You were not given the best advice, and you certainly don't have to push through pain. There is always a why when breastfeeding isn't going well and that needs to be identified and resolved.
You said you haemorrhaged: that is very likely why your supply was delayed in onset. And your baby had jaundice, another clear reason for delay as jaundiced babies are too sleepy to remove milk effectively to establish supply. Painful latch is not normal but a sign the baby needs to take more breast tissue into their mouth, which can be a challenge for sleepy babies. I wish I had been able to support you through all this. But don't accept the label of not being able to breastfeed - you faced multiple challenges, which needed specialised support to overcome.
You’re right I probably didn’t receive the best advice or support. The whole thing was (and still is) a cause for sadness. I was in so much pain, utterly exhausted and had two other small boys to care for. Toby was unable to take much time off work either so I was alone. It was a pretty awful time. I couldn’t even get on the stairs in one go as I was so weak. One comfort is I look back and still can’t see how I could have done anything different at the time. Maybe if the internet back then was as it is now I could have found out more or found some decent help and support. X
