A lot of the reason for Phoenix being so smooth is Knoebels having its own lumber mill. You can even see new wood sections in the video.
I love phonex
Phoenix*
For GCI I would definitely say Heidi The Ride at Plopsaland. It's really surprising how smooth it is. In fact, it's the smoothest coaster in the park. Pure wooden butter.
Also, if you think Balder is smooth (which it is), be excited for Colossos at Heide Park. It's smoother than 95% of steel coasters I've ridden. Feels like ice gliding. It feels straight up wrong for a woodie
Thats awesome. Hope that retrack keeps for a while
Colossos was superbly smooth - a great coaster for sure!
I agree re Heidi, that was just unbelievably smooth. Apparently White Lightning in Florida, which Heidi was based on, isn't smooth at all.
I rode Colossos only before its retrack. It was smooth enough but definitely rattly in places. Glad to hear the retrack was a success.
RIDE TO HAPPINESS OPENED 3 YEARS AGO DUDE
@@antonyliveactionvideogames3264 RtH ain't super smooth tbh
A note about Yukon Striker, I've had a few rough rides, and one that gave me a terrible headache for a bit afterward. This happened in the back row on the left side. So, an edge seat. But when it's not rough, it's definitely extremely smooth. There doesn't seem to be an in between.
that's really odd
Dr Diabolical's Cliffhanger is similar. So smooth except for the back row, outside seats, which are so rough.
Sheikra Is Horrible In The Back Row Too
@@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od How.. Well I never rode it in the back row 🙃
@@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od I am a fan of RMC But I prefer B&M
RCCA “ I only rode Son of Beast, it was horrendous. Moving on.” 😂😂😂😂 nothing more needed to be said
In Brazil we still have a RCCA coaster. The last time I rode it (much more than 10y ago) I hit my thigh so hard I got a painful bruise. Never again and it is still operating. Some people go to the park infirmary right after the ride complaining about neck and back pain.
Some of the smoothest I’ve ridden:
Mack - Ride To Happiness
Gerstlauer - Gold Rush
RMC - Untamed
Intamin - Kondaa
Vekoma - F.L.Y. (hon. men.: Python’s retrack)
B&M - Baron 1898
GCI - Heidi the Ride
I got on Leviathan at Sea World in Australia in September, and it's currently a smooth (and overall fantastic) ride. Having also ridden Kentucky Flyer, Switchback, and Voyage this year, I'd say Switchback is the smoothest. None are particularly rough though, as Kentucky Flyer is still pretty new and Voyage gets great maintenance.
HW does a great job with Voyage to make it run as good as possible but i wouldnt call it a smooth ride
I was blown away with how smooth Kentucky Kingdom's coasters were, although I didn't ride T3.
Ha yeah i noticed that 4 of their coasters could have been on this list. 3 were
You were not missing out with t3
They do a great job taking care of their coasters. Even T3 was one of the smoothest old-school Vekomas in my experience.
You had a lucky escape from T3!
My home park may be small but our collection is great. I’m surprised how well we keep up with our coasters as well.
I went to ZDTs for the first time last month, and yeah, Switchback is fairly smooth. I did get a headache after a while, but that’s probably less to do with the smoothness of the coaster, and more to do with the no-lines and I rode it 5 times in a row with no stops lol
There are only a few manufacturers where I've ridden enough coasters to really have an opinion. Some smooth ones:
- Arrow: Gonna go with Loch Ness Monster. Of course it's being rebuilt now to make it even smoother.
- PTC: Yankee Cannonball at Canobie Lake Park. This wasn't particularly smooth most of the times I rode it, but a retracking a few years ago left it phenomenally smooth, though enthusiasts complained it was also robbed of force. I don't know, I think it's OK.
- Vekoma: Expedition Everest, Disney's Animal Kingdom. Haven't ridden any of the neo-Vekomas.
- B&M: Shambhala, PortAventura. Yeah, there might be smoother ones, but this is pretty great.
- Intamin: Uh, I think the smoothest Intamin I've ridden is Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts at Universal Studios Florida. Does that even count?
And some smooth coasters from manufacturers where I really haven't ridden enough to compare:
- Gravity Group: Roar-O-Saurus, Story Land. I rode this when it was very new and I've heard tell that it got a bit rougher later. But it was running great then.
- Hopkins: Polar Coaster, Story Land. Cute kiddie/family ride.
- Zamperla: Dragon Coaster, Canobie Lake Park. My daughter's nostalgic fave.
- RMC: Wicked Cyclone, Six Flags New England. Yeah, it's smooth as hell, like you said.
Controversial hot takes:
- Gerstlauer: Untamed, Canobie Lake Park. I dunno, people complain about the roughness of this but I don't see it at all. Maybe I'm just the right height for the restraints.
- CCI: Stampida, PortAventura. Again, I've heard people complaining that this nearly killed them and, well, it's not glass-smooth but I thought it was fine for smoothness.
Schwarzkopf was so far ahead of their time. Their coasters aren’t very janky (like their competitor Arrow) and still run butter smooth.
They used heartlining in 1976
4:15 I gotta agree on Lightning Racer being smooth. Of the two GCIs I rode at HersheyPark, This is not only the smoother one, but I don’t have a grudge against it for making my gut hurt.
I love Slinky Dog Dash. It is one of the better Disney coasters I have been on and the best family coaster I have been on so far. It is so much fun.
As someone who’s ridden Skyline’s most recent coasters, I can confirm that Skyline’s smoothest coaster is actually Brava at MASSMoCA. That thing rides like butter.
I just rode both sides of Kid Flash at Over Georgia on Sunday and it’s shockingly rattly for how new it is. I honestly don’t think it’s gonna last 5 years tbh.
For Intamin, you gotta get out to S.Korea sometime (I know, BIG ask) and do T Express. I was stunned how smooth it was in 2022, and apparently people actually consider it *rough* compared to usual, so they're retracking it this winter. That's gotta be in the talk for smoothest Intamin after the retrack I imagine..
I love that three coasters on this list are at the Jersey shores! I've been on Great White and Hydrus, but not the tramcar one (my smoothest Zierer is easily "Impulse", located at the same place as the only other coaster on this list that I've ridden).
Also, for Gravity Group, I think you forgot Roarasurus at Storyland. It is a fun and forceful ride that is worth the trip and somehow glass smooth still!
Man, I wish Tunder Run was smooth when I rode it in July. I wasn't even in a wheel seat and it was bouncing and rattling like crazy. Timberwolf was smoother to me. Though I actually had like a 95% full train when I did Thunder Run, which is probably rare and might of made it run with to much weight.
Great video! Congrats to Kentucky Kingdom for having 3 winners on this list even though they had T3 ( Lightning Run, Thunder Run, and Kentucky Flyer)
always a good day when chris uploads
Great video! I had a feeling you were gonna choose Phoenix on the PTC part. And I'd honestly pick Steel Vengeance as the smoothest RMC I've been on. (As well as being the only one of its kind I have ridden so far)
If you ride other Ibox RMCs like steel vengeance youll find theyre all pretty much flawless. New texas giant is the only one that seems kinda rattly
@@AirtimeThrills TC had a rough patch on the high five on the blue side when I rode it last time. I've never experienced discomfort on NTG (because I haven't ridden it lol)
I love this series called "Every Manufacturer's ........" I can't wait to see what is next!
10:28 They’re open now and they’re great! I rode both sides at SFOG. Yellow was butter smooth, red had a minor vibration that is likely wheel gaps or smth
Funny how most of Kentucky Kingdom’s coasters are smooth, and then there’s the opposite with T3. Rest in pieces T3
"T3 SUCKS!"
For me, the smoothest Arrow coaster is Road Runner Express at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. It's one of only a few mine train roller coasters I can think if without any rough transitions or bumpy spots. Some other smooth ones from Arrow that I can also think of are also mine train coasters such as Adventure Express at Kings Island, Goldrusher at Six Flags Magic Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland. Some of their suspended coasters like Bat at Kings Island Ninja at Six Flags Magic Mountain, and the former Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens Williamsburg are among the smoothest that I've ridden from them also.
I’m gonna say for Zeirer their smoothest coaster is verbolten because it is smooth like pudding and I think PTC”s smoothest coaster is swamp Fox at family kingdom in Myrtle beach.
For B&M I gotta give a shoutout to Candymonium for being the smoothest roller coaster I’ve ever ridden
I agree, for me, maybe that is the 'Skyrush effect'. Love both coasters, but go ride Skyrush and then immediately go ride Candymonium. Your brain will tell you the train is not even touching the track 😂
“You’ll be pressed to find a rough B&M”
Rougarou would like to enter the conversation.
I love seeing Great White getting some love!! That coaster is my childhood and I've been meaning to take my kids down to Wildwood to experience it as I did.
Steel eel was insanely smooth.
I was less impressed with comet and maybe Hershey park agrees with the new trains?
Wicked cyclone is very smooth and I feel like even the 3rd lap is better?
Wicked Cyclone has been running much faster since about 2021.
It struggled to make it home pre-covid but it has been hauling since
Love your videos, man. Another great one as always!
I completely agree! Balder is extremely smooth. Even in the back row! What a masterpiece of a coaster!
I already knew Mystic Timbers would make this list as soon as I watched the roughest coasters vid. It’s the only woodie that I can have my hands up on and not fear for my neck and spine lol. A great choice!
Never thought I’d see the day where Kentucky Kingdom dominates a list
For me so far:
Arrow - Tennessee Tornado (definitely either this or Loch Ness)
B&M - Batman the Ride SFOG (there are other smooth B&Ms like Orion, but it's impressive how well this runs despite its age)
CCI - ??? (I've only ridden Cheetah and that's definitely NOT smooth)
Chance - Joker Funhouse Coaster (only one I've ridden)
E&F - Swampwater Snake
GCI - Mystic Timbers
Gerstlauer - FireChaser Express (Dare Devil Dive is also pretty smooth)
Gravity Group - only ridden Mine Blower, so...
Intamin - Hagrid's
Mack - Slinky Dog Dash (it didn't even feel like I was on a track!)
Maurer - Rip Ride Rockit for all of my smooth rides, Go Bananas for my rough ride on RRR
Premier - Ice Breaker
PTC - Cannon Ball
RMC - uhh anything lol
S&S - Tumbili (only ridden this one and it was smooth so)
Schwarzkopf - Mindbender (pretty smooth, also the only one I've ridden lol)
Vekoma - Dragonflier
Wiegand - Rocky Top Mountain Coaster
Zamperla - Galaxy Spin
Zierer - Air Grover
One of my favorite UA-camrs (this man is top tier)
I gotta give the smoothest Arrow to Gemini, that thing was surprisingly butter smooth
I thought of that one too. It runs so smooth!
This year it didnt get the memo. So many potholes
Thunder Run opened with a double-up in the second half of the ride and it was intense with lots of airtime. When they re-tracked Thunder Run in 1995, they removed this element and put in a straight track section? It also opened with PTC trailer cars with no headrests, then changing to new PTC trains as it has now in 1996. The first drop was shortened some as well in 1995, but it’s still a great ride and smooth yes!
Yukon is one of my faves! Also found it quite smooth.
Phoenix at Deno's is hands-down the smoothest coaster I've ever ridden. It's so smooth that you can feel the seams between track segments, something I've never felt before (although the ride's lack of intensity certainly makes it easier to notice)
Chris, I love your channel and the content you create. I have been a subscriber for almost a year, and I admire your opinions and rankings. But I have to STRONGLY disagree with your pick of Tennessee Tornado as the smoothest Arrow. I rode it last month, and it was really janky. I don’t know if I just got a bad ride, but after getting off, I said I would not be doing that again. The only other Arrow I have ridden is Dahlonega mine train at SFOG, and I felt that was smoother.
For CCI, I think an honorable mention should go to Excalibur at Funtown/Splashtown in Saco Maine. They did a great job smoothing it out and it is a fun ride with a lot of Good Laterals
i just rode lightning racers for the first time a few months ago and my main takeaway was it was rough haha
I will give you Tennessee Tornado for Arrow… but Loch Ness Monster was a brain basher for me. Hoping for the best with the refit.
I found back row on Diamondback to be surprisingly smooth even though it’s known to have a rattle. Honestly it wasn’t that bad
Which one
@@G3R0George the B&M hyper Diamondback
I’m genuinely excited when he uploads
I feel like for Mack rides, Dc Rivals at Movie world Australia deserves something, every time I ride, it has been one of the smoothest experiences
Wildcat at Washington State Fair - my 1st coaster credit ever way back in 1983 or 84! So good for what it is - although going to the fair just 2wks after a Disney/Universal/Knotts/SFMM weeklong coaster trip really...sucks... ride-wise!
CCI coasters aged like hell, but I remember GhostRider at Knott's being extremely smooth for its first 5-ish years of operation. Boulder Dash, Raven, and Legend were also known as smooth rides in their early days.
Chris, what's your new home park after leaving thw SFMM area, and what are your modern thoughts on Twisted Colossus after having ridden it (probably) as your most re-ridden ride?
vekoma's STC (Suspended Thrill Coaster) Prototype hals-über-kopf at Tripsdrill in germany is buttery smooth for a suspended thrill coaster. you should consider it in your list
With such a low thrill level, I would be surprised if Slinky Dog Dash was rougher than the more thrilling coasters
Finally let’s gooo part twoooooooo
Twisted Timbers was AMAZING when I rode it. I wonder if it’s still running smoothly now
9:24 Apparently the video says so too
Five rides at the end of June 2023 and it was absolute butter
Stunt Pilot and Tremors are in my top 5 smoothest coasters I’ve ever ridden, still can’t believe how good the latter was, almost felt like a GCI
Tremors was NOT running well when I went there in 19 but I know since then it's gotten some RMC track
I don’t know if you rode Pantheon when you made this, but that’s what I would have chose for Intamin. Newly built, buttery smooth.
RCCA: moving on.
This dude is smart.
fønix being the smoothest coaster at vekoma
dear airtime thrill. Leviathan has been rough since day one, gravity group is just rough
Dang. Ill find out soon
Roughest and smoothest coaster built by a park in-house?
I mean Balder has just received a retrack so it makes sense but it’s not like it was rough before
Runaway tram is the only zierer I’ve ridden but it is super smooth
Arrow: In my experience, it's Corkscrew at Michigans Adventure.
B&M: I agree about Yukon Striker, with an honorable mention to Leviathan & Mako.
CCI: My thoughts exactly on both GhostRider & Great White.
Dinn: Having not ridden the retracked Predator, my pick is Wolverine Wildcat, edging out Timber Wolf. Thunder Run was much smoother in 2020 than it was in 2022 & 2023.
GCI: agreed
Gerstlauer: None have been very rough for me. I agree with Hydrus, with Monster a close 2nd.
Gravity Group: My pick is easily Zippin Pippin.
Intamin: Pantheon edges out Millennium Force.
Mack: agreed, with Time Traveler a close 2nd.
Morgan: easy pick there
Pinfari: They're all glossy smooth. I'll go with El Bandido at Western Playland.
PTC: Phoenix wasn't rough, but it wasn't smooth for me. I pick Comet at Waldameer or Racer 75--KD.
RMC: So many options, but Iron Rattler seems the smoothest to me.
S&S: My pick is Steel Curtain, but Maxx Force was very smooth too.
Shwarzkopf: I never rode yours, so I'm going with Shock Wave--SFOT.
Togo: My only one is the perfectly smooth Ultra Twister at Astroworld.
Vekoma: Dragonflier & Phoenix are basically a tie for me.
Zamperla: Moto Coaster or Steeplechase are smooth, but my pick is Daddy's Pig Coaster in Florida.
Zierer: yeah, probably.
E&F Miler: It's hard to pick, since they all seem perfectly smooth.
Corkscrew at MA was awful for me. Easily the worst corkscrew ive ridden
@@AirtimeThrills Maybe I got lucky. It was very smooth on my July visit.
Kentucky Kingdom: highest smoothest coasters per capita.
Nice.
What, no love or mention of the Twister (III) at Elitch Gardens made by Hensel Phelps Construction Company? LOL....its so rough and I know you've been on it. haha did you ever get a chance to ride the Arrow "Sidewinder" there? Last I heard it was always closed/shut down for you. It's a pretty smooth looper in my opinion, but I have not been on many Arrows in general just that and Corkscrew at Cedar Point.
Nah i only been there once and never rode sidewinder
In my opinion vekoma should be Guardians of the Galaxy. Such a great ride!
Definitely a great choice
Can’t speak as to Desert Storm as it was closed when we went, but I got a few rides on Patriot at Castles and Coasters last year and it was… bad. Not sure if maintenance has suffered or what, but that thing HURT.
The smoothest arrow is undoubtedly Ninja at magic mountain. I cannot be convinced otherwise. Compared to any other arrow suspended swinger, ninja is smooth, fun, and great on the terrain!
Ninjas got a couple spots where its pretty shaky though
@@AirtimeThrills I don't think I've ever experienced that haha
Kentucky Kingdom coming in strong. I definitely need to visit this park, even though Kings Island is my home park.
Go to Holiday World as well, it is definitely better than ki. Free drinks free parking free sunscreen and a better overall atmosphere with a better water park with the best wooden coaster at either park.
@@TheBolligerMabillardLover, I would like to go to Holiday World also. Although I never been there, it’s a high bar to set to beat KI’s woodies. Mystic is highly rated, The Racer still has a soft spot in my heart, then there is the legendary Beast. My Beast night ride, back in the day with buzz bars and a lot less trims, is an experience that has never been topped. (But I only have about 75 coaster credits). I am very interested in The Voyage night ride. Hopefully, I will get to both parks someday.
GCI smooth candidate in Europe: Heidi the Ride at Ride to Happiness
European Mack Rides contender: any Mack Coaster at Europapark (except Euromir)
European smooth Gerstlauer contender: Karacho at Erlebnispark Tripsdrill or G'sengte Sau at the same Park
European smooth Vekoma contender: F.L.Y at Phantasialand
Smooth European B&M contender: Oblivion: The black Hole at Gardaland or Black Mamba at Phantasialand.
Smooth European RMC Contender: Untamed at Walibi Holland
I agree with mist. Buyt for Schwarzkopf it's definitely Olympia Looping and for Togo it's Fujiyama.
As for Vekoma, there are some good ones in Europe.
I’ve ridden 4 B&M hypers- Nitro, Mako, Candymonium, and Apollos chariot and every one of them were super smooth
I got my first Giovanola coaster rides over the past month or so, and based on everything I'd heard I wasn't expecting much. Because of that they blew away my expectations. Especially Titan. Titan in the front row is amazing. The airtime is good if not great but it's just such a unique ride. In the front row coming off the brake run after coming almost to a stop and tilting 90°, in the front car it genuinely feels like it's just going to dump you right out. Ride front row left side for the best experience. The front row also hits that first helix at what feels like an out of control speed. You pull so so many G's through that helix and it seems like it's never going to end. Your hands over your head feel like they weigh 200lbs and you get several seconds where you can't even breathe. Put all that together with write ops that don't staple you and it's a beautiful recipe. When I was there last it was a really foggy night, and the top of the lift hill was obscured in fog. It was such an eerie sight, just days before Halloween I think. The lift till looked like it went up into Oblivion.
These were some of my most fun rides ever on any coaster. Can't wait to get back down there and ride again.
Titan is a great ride I agree. And I like Goliath at Magic Mountain a lot as well, despite all the negative comments you hear and see and read about it.
You MUST ride leviathan, u walked on thinking it was gonna be rough only to realise it was really smooth and the airtime you get is great, the line is short to!
Kentucky Flyer is still a pretty smooth ride, I did notice a little more rattle than usual on drop after the turn around this season but nothing I would consider rough or unpleasant. I'm honestly kind of shocked to know that so many of the smoothest rides are in my little home park. (Guess we had to have something other than T3 🤣)
Just came back from school for the weekend and this made my weekend wayyy better edit: I've been on an SBF visa spinner (Full-Scale) at bawadi mall Al Ain its pretty rough tho you bang on the sides of the seat but it's still fun
Surprised to see Thunder Run on this list, when i rode it in June last year it was horrible. It jacked all of our backs right up 😫
It had a great season this year. KK is definitely giving it some love!
i love Medusa at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, always smooth, and never breaks down
for my 2 rides in the baxkrow and middle parry scraper was very rough/pain full
Guardian’s of the galaxy is the smoothest coaster I have ever road on. Butter smooth and like nothing else out there.
I love how you said “Son of Beast, moving on….” 🤭
I rode Thunder Run in 2020 as well and it was a good time. But by 2022 it had developed a back breaking pot hole on the first drop.
Cmon Chris, Arrow's Canyon Blaster at the Adventuredome in Vegas is so smooth!
Gotta give b&m to the swarm. So smooth but yet so intense
B&M's Leviathan at Canadas Wonderland is my personal smoothest.
Kentucky flyer is still smooth i went last month and it’s smooth
Got a ride on Lightning Racer on Sept. 21st 2024. Roughest roller coaster I’ve ever been on. Seriously needs to be fixed. I rode in June of the same year and it was smooth. No idea what happened 🤷♂️
Helix is my pick for smoothest Mack but I've not ridden anywhere near as many coasters as this dude
Smoothness is definitely a big and very subjective factor when it comes to coasters. Personally, my tolerance is all over the place compared to the average person. While a butter smooth ride usually doesn’t do it for me, Twisted Timbers I can agree with being the smoothest coaster I’ve ever ridden.
And Roar is the only coaster in which I can agree with everyone that needs to be demolished.
Roar --> RMC
I love how most of these are more thrill rides then you got slinky dog dash also I thought this was a cool idea
Smoothest operator: Airtime Thrills.
Ha, just don't go back to my 2018 vids
@@AirtimeThrills I have been watching since your very first vid. You can’t hide anything!
@@StamfordBridge dangit. Well I keep them available for the lols
nice vid keep it going :)
I recently went on Manta at SeaWorld San Diego!
Crazy how we all hated on Vekoma, and now lots of people keep saying some of their rides are TOO smooth! Might take away some force so I get it, but still new gen vekoma feels like riding on a cloud
"super re-rideable if you can stomach the launch" on Maxx Force more like if you can stomach the 3+ minute dispatch times making the line multiple hours long 😂
One train on that this past summer really sucked
Idk about lockness. I went on it in July..it was pretty rough
For Vekoma id myself probably say either the Python Retrack (in my opinion so smooth its nearly boring) or
FLY at Phantasia. For a flying coaster i was truly amazed.
The demon at six flags great america got new trains and trackwork this year, it now runs like a modern looper, I never even have to brace, its glossy smooth.
I have to say, when I rode Lightning Run this summer, it had a bit of a vibration in the S-bends at the end. That was the only moment, but it was quite noticeable tbh
Unrelated note: Mystic Timbers is too smooth for me, makes it feel kinda boring imo
Kentucky Kingdom taking 3 of the smoothest 👏👏👏👏
Thunder run is so damn rough lmao
Not as of 2020. Maybe it got worse
