Have you successfully replaced your laptop with an iPad?

Yes! I use my iPad for everything I need from a laptop. I use it for both work and entertainment.

I mentioned the Combo touch in the comments of your previous iPad video so I hope I inspired your decision. It’s great isn’t it? Haven’t switched my MBA on in weeks. Had iPads for years but there’s just something different about the iPad Pro 11 inch M4. Got an ESR magnetic paper like cover today which is worth a look too. It sits on top of the ESR screen protector too. I wouldn’t get the Logitech stylus over the Apple Pencil Pro though. Too many feature differences for not that much more.

No, because of the file management and constant workarounds needed for stuff that you can easily do on the Mac with a click. If I only need to read, write and send emails (without attachments) then I use the ipad. But I do lots of online meetings where I need to share my screen, conferences where I need to plug into the big screen and stuff like that. Even if it’s possible, I don’t feel comfortable doing that with an iPad and having the audience waiting for me to find the way to show a document…

Bro, haven’t seen any review of the logi keyboard that wasn’t sponsored by Logitech. It is probably the best choice for my use case, but I’m not gonna lie, if I could see a non sponsored review I’d feel better with the purchase.

It’s better than Magic Keyboard in terms of functionality and use cases, however the few things that the Magic Keyboard does it does very well (amazing keyboard, trackpad, and hinge) the only problem with the combo touch might be very long term durability (search combo touch rubber failure)

You can also attach the keyboard backwards and then fold it over the back of the device, so if you are using it in tablet mode, you don’t have to set the keyboard down somewhere. This covers the kickstand, but works perfect if you just want to hold the tablet

Thanks Mark for a nice review of a really good product. I used the first version of the combo touch (the one with the flap to hold the Apple Pencil) for a very long time. However after many, many times pulling the keyboard off the case, the connecting cable inside the keyboard hinge broke and the keyboard did not work anymore. That was a real bummer because I really liked using it. So I bought a new one but was disappointed to see it did not have the flap for the pencil. Anyway it sits still a great accessory!

This keyboard is amazing for my 11” m4” iPad Pro. I had the Magic Keyboard and i use this so much more. The 11” is amazing. I take the iPad to the couch to browse and into the office or dining room to work with the keyboard.
This is what the iPad ultra will be like when released in 2027-2028

I used this for a few weeks, and I loved it but also disliked it. Finally returned it because the keyboard portion was a little too flexible for me when typing or trying to use on the lap, and I didn't care for the feel of the trackpad. Think I'll stick with the Magic Keyboard.

I really loved my old Logitech Combo Touch, until the keyboard "hinge" stopped working properly, and Logitech did not commit to its warranty and everything went to hell. I hope the new version fixed the durability problems.

Ivae had the logitch case since it was launched with my M1 IPad Pro. Warning you now that if you hold the screen for the sides where the speakers are, the case band will start to deform slowly. My case ended up deforming from all four sides and looks hella ugly now. Also the case material is bad because it peels off a lot after a while.

  • @Daniel-ro6ih
    @Daniel-ro6ih 2 місяці тому

I have it for the M1 iPad Pro. At the time, having a case to protect the iPad and detachable keyboard was exactly what I was looking for. After some months I realised it was not comfortable on the lap and because of the total footprint of the keyboard plus the space you need for the stand, it did not fit on most airplane trays. These are the exact same problems I have with the Surface Pro and the reason why I decided to go for the Magic Keyboard for the M4 iPad. And 11 inches instead of 13. For someone that does not travel as much as I do, it might be the perfect solution. I wish we could have a slim case that fits inside the MK to feel safer when you use it as a tablet.

two questions really. £229 vs £289 for Apple's version - isnt significantly cheaper.
And, why is it £30 more for the Logitech iPad Pro version than the Logitech iPad Air version? What exactly is the difference that justifies £30 as it looks identical to me.

Logitech missed a trick here. They could have made a detachable magnetic folio cover available separately for when you want to leave the keyboard off but want the ipad protected.

Just use the keyboard to protect it,,, if you don’t want the keyboard to touch the table if you turn it 360 degrees you can flip it over so that they keyboard is facing up rather than down when it’s on the table

I have the iPad 9 version, and it has a big issue with the durability of the case. The case part of Combo Touch was made from 3 pieces glued together: the rubber bumper, the hard plastic back and the kickstand. 7 months in use, the rubber bumper started to deform and separate from the plastic back. The bumper wouldn’t fall off, since the corners and the upper side were glued on pretty firmly, but it looked terrible, and felt terrible when holding it. And you can’t glue it back perfectly, because the bumper was stretched out. Also, the bulk of the case really ruins the tablet experience, making the iPad unpleasant to hold in hands. I will not give Logitech another try for my next iPad. Now I’m using the Smart Keyboard cover with a thin case daily, since trackpad is pretty much useless on iPads (I will only slow you down doing tasks), and the whole package is a lot thinner and lighter. I only use the Combo Touch when I need to type a lot.

I’ve had this keyboard, twice, and it’s great… until it sucks! The rubber of the iPad case above the speaker grills begins to deform and lose its rigidity and the one near the keyboard connector unglues from the case… if it had happened to one I’d say I got a bad one but it happened to both, even the replacements I received from the Logitech warranty
What I especially enjoyed was the kickstand for when the keyboard wasn’t in use, haven’t found a protective case with just that and I’ve searched hard

    • @rorywalters1614

Glad you really _love_ that kickstand, and insist it's quite stable & fine in your lap (where I do most of my iPad work.) It seems you have no problem with what I find to be a deal-breaker: the rather sharp edge of the kickstand digging into my thighs. Especially when wearing shorts (it gets hot here in SoCal.) The edge of the kickstand is making a direct dig into my skin, and it's unquestionably irritating. Sure, I can wear thicker pants which lessens this, or drape a towel across my lap prior to opening the device, but who wants to be so judicious when simply wanting to type in your lap?
I agree about the other 'perfections' of the Logi - great key feel, pass though charging, good protection, etc. But I think a kickstand on a 'laptop-like' tablet is a primitive design and a mistake. Years ago, Logitech made the perfect keyboard case. It was called the Create and stood erect with no kickstand, and nothing but the cases flat bottom resting on your thighs.

Last gen of this case was fantastic, apart from one major flaw that I had to replace through warranty 4 times. The cheap rubber around the case is very flimsy and warped at the speaker slots and the charging port. If the keyboard didnt detach, noone would buy this willingly.

I’m sorry but you’re just wrong in many aspects when comparing it to the Magic Keyboard. The MK has significantly superior quality. It’s much more sturdy and fixed, it takes much less space on a table, the keyboard is better by A MILE, the trackpad is much better and much more importantly, a difference that you omit to say is that the logi combo feels just like a tablet cover with a tablet keyboard. The MK feels like a genuine MacBook. It won’t offer you the capabilities of the software of a MacBook, but physically it feels very much like an actual laptop. Yes the logi combo is 90€ cheaper but tbh it’s overpriced. Compared to the actual quality and price of the MK, it should be twice as cheaper.
