Bhutan must remain independent. It's good for the people of Bhutan. Moreover, we Indians and people of Indian origin must realize that it's in Bhutan's best interests to stay away from the dirty and divisive politics of India. We know what we guys are facing due to our own politicians. We must let them remain the way they are, at least their king is nice to them, let them stay happy.

After the western, central and eastern Bhutan was united in 16th century, it became a regional power that influenced Sikkim, northeast India till Ladakh. It defeated Tibet in all its attack and even when they brought the Mongols with them in their final attack. It fought with Mughal empire and also the British. It maybe small but it was badass to take on all those big powers. The political manuevering through those times was done very well by the leaders.

1864 Duar war is purely because of the stubborn nature of Ashley Eden taking the mission to Bhutan despite reminding the group that civil war is going on. So when Ashley Eden mission reached Punakha, Ashley Eden was made to sign the treaty forcefully and he also cited that he was made to sign the treaty forcefully and thus the British declared Duar War in 1864 in response to the shame Ashley Eden underwent in the mission 'Ashley Eden Mission to Bhutan'.

24:40 Yes Bhutan should remain an independent state; as an Indian I believe Bhutan is the last remaining Himalayan Shangri-La & Bhutan will remain so if Bhutan is supported by India 2 continue as an independent country with all kinds of Indian support ; economic, diplomatic, cultural & most importantly military support. Otherwise if Bhutan gets merged with India then it's salient features as the last remaining pristine Himalayan Kingdom (Shangri-La) would be comprised. So the present arrangements with India vis-e-vis Bhutan is the best mechanism..
