You're right, that is a nice modular system. Respect to Nintendo for making a system that people can repair it themselves or just making a fairly repairable system in general. I picked up one of these recently for a good deal but the guy told me the screens scratched. Depending on how bad I may have to replace those but I hopefully won't have to.
The reason the microSD Card slot is buried under the rear panel on this system is probably because it's not meant to be swapped out frequently, and keeping it behind a cover also prevents it from being accidentally ejected or lost.
So if the Game Card slot is modular does that mean I can Modify my Computers SD card slot and replace it with the Game Card Reader and make it read the Data from the games?🤔
Really sweet that it comes with the charge cable! When my bottom screen broke and decided to get the newer one from Nintendo it didnt come with the cable. Luckily my older 3ds charger was compatible. Really cool seeing all the insides of the system as you perform surgery on it!
The amount of ribbon cables is the scariest aspect about handhelds for me, but once you opened it up all of that dissolved. I am eager to start hard modding my N3DS XL like adding wireless charging and Bluetooth. Great video as always!!
I bought one of these a year or so back. Mine came with a 3rd party charger, but the console itself was in nearly new condition. Nothing inside looked replaced. Based on what the person at Gamestop told me when I bought it, I think they call them all refurbished because they need to be reset and cleared of any personal data or photos. So as long as its a used unit taken into the store and been sent out to be reset ,cleaned out and repacked, then they call it a refurb.
I actually bought a N3DS from gamestop a year or so ago. It was really cheap, and it even came with an AC adapter. I think they might have unintentionally entered it as a OG 3ds, because the packaging and receipt made it out to be an old model. Would have explained the low price too
Ive bought one before, it was a limited edition color too. Had to return it as soon as I opened it, the casing had an inch long crack in the top. The second one I had gotten was much better, only minor cosmetic damage but the charger was shotty.
So I picked up a Pokemon Sun and Moon Special Edition as a refurbished system from GameStop a couple months back and besides from some hinge wear and wear on the outer case (which is expected) it was in great condition. So if you can pick one out in person, to make sure it i in good condition, I definitely recommend it for the price.
I've moved past my 3DS's with the switch, but I still have my lovely Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask special edition new 3DS xl. I will probably always keep it, because it's probably rarer than some of the others I had to go out of town to get one, and even caught a cold waiting outside in the cold on release day in another city to get it. The store only got 3 of them and I got the 3rd. So yeah, it's a lovely system and I've gotten a lot of use out of mine over the years.
I have had three refurbished new nintendo 3ds xl's. the first one i returned immediately because there was something on the screen. Because of that, I got a new one. That 3ds broke so i got a refurbished one. That one lasted for a while but the game card slot started to go. I swapped that one out for a refurbished galaxy model. My galaxy 3ds is in perfect condition and I have had it for well over a year. It works perfectly like it should. When i first opened it up, there were no scratches at all and the screens looked brand new. It was almost like getting a brand new new nintendo 3ds xl. I love my galaxy. I'd say the new 3ds is the perfect console to go with if you're looking for a refurbished console from gamestop.
As a current SGA at gamestop I can tell you with these systems. There will never be a pre-owned one. We send all new 3ds systems back to the warehouse to be "factory refurbished". So they can whipe the technically internal SD card. So in the end all of them will be refurbished.
I bought the special edition Hyrule Gold New 3ds XL from gamestop, a few months ago. No complaints with it, its been working great and the outside plating/screens are not scratched or scuffed. From my experience it seems like hardware/controllers from Gamestop are high quality, but their used games can be hit or miss.
At gamestop when we take in a New 3DS XL we are required to defect them out after we take them in to have them sent back to the warehouse even if nothing is wrong, mainly to make sure the SD is inside because most stores do not have any tools. After that the warehouse just ships them back out.
The 3DS is a great system and will live on long after Nintendo abandones it and after new games are no longer made. Considering I never got myself a new 3DS/XL I might just have to take them up on this deal.
The first thing you should always do with these is put a screen protector on the touch screen. The top screen doesn't need one as badly since you aren't going to touch it. The material the resistive touch screens are made of scratches VERY easily. I still think the DS Zelda games were designed to scratch the screen.
About a month ago I was really missing dual screen gaming so I have been playing a lot of DS and 3ds games. It still makes a bit sad that this era in gaming is over for the most part. HD rumble is the most interesting feature to me on the Switch and isn't being used as often as it should especially since the Switch Lite came out. I will always hang onto my ds and 3ds systems and games it's one of my favorite era's in Nintendo history and gaming.
I got a refurbish n3dsxl unit from Gamestop early 2019 for $130, same color but the rear battery cover is aftermarket and the paint doesn't match. I also got a 3rd party charge cable, still a decent buy IMO.
I have the new 3ds xl super Nintendo edition for a little more than 1 year and I'm actually impressed by it! Coming from a DSi XL, the lack of support from Nintendo for the upgraded hardware is present as well but I'm glad the extra horsepower isn't wasted just like the DSi. The binding of Isaac runs quite well on it and I enjoy all the great games the console has to provide. Overall it is a great successor of the DS family
I also bought a refurbished red and black ds lite that came in amazing condition, along with some gba Pokémon and Zelda games that were flawless. Perfect labels and well taken care of (most importantly, legitimate games, not reproduction). Very happy with GameStop!
Mar Vill Generally better color reproduction and much better viewing angles. Some of the older n3ds and 3ds models may have ips or tn displays or both ips. But the typical standard is tn.
I got a black New 3ds XL from GameStop over a month ago on sale for $109.99 USD and I have had no problems with it. It only has a few noticable scratches on the casing on the top screen but other than that it works great. I would recommend anyone to buy it if they haven't bought a 3ds system it is worth the price.
It's $119.99 on Nintendo's eBay shop, doesn't come with an AC adapter there though. Was on the fence between getting one from GameStop and eBay, but it looks like both aren't bad options for a good value 3DS
I know I late to the party, but I just checked and YES!...this IS a Guinness world record for the most times “modular” has been used in a UA-cam video!
Just got one. The screens were perfect there was was small scratches( as expected) in the front and back though you won’t notice unless you shine a light on it. Got it for 140$
Still prefer the New 3DS without XL, because the bigger Screen does not actually "show you more" it's just stretched. But also because i like the idea to change the Coverplates make your own "limited edition", at least better as to buy a new Handheld just because it looks different from the outside (and the most Coverplates are cheap as heck today, even if you want to use them only to change a scratched one). Anf if it comes to this, the Price for one is actually cheaper. You can get one on ebay in good condition for 70-80€ (sometimes with 1 or 2 Games)
I bought the limited edition Hyrule edition from GameStop, did a shell swap with my red N3DSXL for a Famicom feel. The system came in perfect condition!
I had to exchange my red recharged one for a black one because the red one was torn up to shit, the top screen backlight was fucked up and it didn’t have the SD card or stylus with it. But the black recharged one was almost like new. Very good deal. 😃
Ive owned mine since the day they came out and still plays games very well. Every time i take it out of its case to play it still feels like the day i first opened the box. Such a great handheld with a decent game collection :)
Spawn Wave Every one of those "new" 3ds models get sent into the warehouse regardless of condition. For some reason they do not let us turn around and re sell after trade. Non "new" models can be re sold immediately after trade. But these always go to warehouse. So, there may not have been a single thing done to it if it comes in looking good. Fyi
Well, I ordered this. The console itself was delayed by 2 days. When it arrived, after I got off work, I was exited and had the highest expectations, only to open it and it was the first generation 3Ds console, instead of the New 3Ds XL system. It came in black, not even the crimson red color. So, I called GameStop, let’s just hope second time is the charm for my replacement
The one time I bought a refurbished new 3ds system from Gamestop it stopped working a day right after the warranty expired and the cpu and charger port blew out and there goes my $150+ tax :(

Also will it come with a charger because I’m ordering from gamestop and I’ve never ordered from them before. Please help I need to decide by tomorrow. Let me know any cons on ordering it refurbished from gamestop.
I'm pretty sure you can't even buy new 3dsxl in the UK anymore... unless you wanna pay £300+ for one (I checked Amazon and game UK). Pre-owned is really your only option here.
I actually bought a ''used'' new 2DS XL from my local gamestop in germany. And it was in really good condition. My 3DS XL had issues with the touchscreen. So I send it in for repair in one of the bigger german tech companies. They told me they would replace the enitre thing for 300 euros. I just said nope and bought the used one for like 140 euros. (a new 3DS XL would cost around 250 euros). The funny thing is, that my old 3DS XL isn't broken, I just needed to calibrate the screen. I am still so angry about them trying to scam me, thx Media Markt
When gamestop receives a N3DS XL used, they are all sent back to the warehouse so that they can format the micro SD card. Every N3DS XL gamestop sells in considered refurbished, even if the refurbishment is only formatting the SD card.

Anybody else have an anxiety attack watching him disassemble the 3ds!? 🙋🏻♂️
Omg this brings back memories. 2014 I brought a refurbished 3ds xl while I was visiting the US. It is even the same box
At gamestop when we take in a New 3DS XL we are required to defect them out after we take them in to have them sent back to the warehouse even if nothing is wrong, mainly to make sure the SD is inside because most stores do not have any tools. After that the warehouse just ships them back out.
"I couldn't think of an original title this is what gamestop told me to type for the 80th video"
What does the sticker on the back near the L ZL mean?
Reminder that gamestop doesnt refurbish anything. They send it to texas to get put in a special box and have a sticker put on it.
Yes, because GameStop pays hundreds of employees to just put stickers on boxes. 🙄
@@dapeacock It would explain why the 5 PS3's i had to return that were "refurbished" because they all had the YLOD and refused to read discs.
Before video starts, they sent you a refurbished new 3ds xl because that's what you ordered.
I was rocking the original clam shell DS from 2005 until I finally upgraded to New 3DS XL. It's crazy that I held out for so long.
9/9/99 It's Thinking I’ve had my original DS since launch and it still works lmao
The 3DS is a great system and will live on long after Nintendo abandones it and after new games are no longer made.
Considering I never got myself a new 3DS/XL I might just have to take them up on this deal.
My second hand N3DS XL ($148 AUD) came with an Nintendo DS adapter, while my previous 3DS just came with a USB cable - both from EB games.
Man, I wish you had put this video out earlier. I might've been able to repair my New 3DS XL's top screen.
Spawn wave I have a question I have a Nintendo 2ds xl and I was wondering is it possible to swap out the battery with a large size ?
He was right, video up soon.
I also bought a refurbished red and black ds lite that came in amazing condition, along with some gba Pokémon and Zelda games that were flawless. Perfect labels and well taken care of (most importantly, legitimate games, not reproduction). Very happy with GameStop!
I picked up a new 2ds xl a year ago for like $80 brand new from a local store chain. It was in my color and was brand new unopened. Was a great buy.
Question is are the screens tn or ips? Hope you won the lottery.
Mar Vill Generally better color reproduction and much better viewing angles. Some of the older n3ds and 3ds models may have ips or tn displays or both ips. But the typical standard is tn.
botton is TN, not sure about top
What about the audio Jack? Could it be replaced as easily, or do you need to resolder?
This disco music is pretty good. Feel like I'm a vampire in a nightclub dancing hard AF.
Love these videos, very informative!
I damaged the lip that lock the ribbon for the screen is tere a eay to fix this? Can the ribbon still make a cknnection ?
It‘s nice to see there are still Electronics that are designed for easy maintenance and not for the trash can if there is something defect.
I just bought a refurbished new 3ds xl today online off GameStop online in black as it came in a bundle
Great informative video as usual
Got a refurbished 2ds from GameStop, turned it off fully charged and woke up to it with the battery dead. Any help?
But are they TN or IPS screens?
Spawn Wave
Every one of those "new" 3ds models get sent into the warehouse regardless of condition. For some reason they do not let us turn around and re sell after trade. Non "new" models can be re sold immediately after trade. But these always go to warehouse. So, there may not have been a single thing done to it if it comes in looking good. Fyi
The best handheld of all time, JRPG machine lol
It isn't a JRP machine... they Vita on the other hand is
@@timetravelingoldman6839 correct persona 4 ff7 to ffx hd, to every psx jrpg. and psp jrpg i only have a vita and switch
Do you fix PSP's? My umd drive isn't reading discs
The one time I bought a refurbished new 3ds system from Gamestop it stopped working a day right after the warranty expired and the cpu and charger port blew out and there goes my $150+ tax :(
If i order a 3ds xl refurbished bundle with 4 games for 130 is that good? They’re pretty great games too.
My New 2DS XL is a GameStop Refurbished system. I’ve had it for a few months now and it’s still going strong
Thanks for disassemble video!
I got basically brand new one off CL for 150$ 1.5 years ago. Dude said he only wanted to play one game and sold it. Gave me a carrying case too =]
whats kind of screw drivers are those @Spawn Wave?
Would you recommend it because I’m buying one on the weekend.
Does the modular theme still applies on the old 3ds xl?
When gamestop receives a N3DS XL used, they are all sent back to the warehouse so that they can format the micro SD card. Every N3DS XL gamestop sells in considered refurbished, even if the refurbishment is only formatting the SD card.
AC adapter was bound to be included. GameStop requires this when you trade in the system. Even it was never sold with one when purchased new.
I just picked one up black tho i never own a DS but did own game boy advance and sp damn I am disappointed I never picked one up sooner
I’m trying to figure out when I just bought one of these. It didn’t even have an SD card and it looks completely different from his?
You keep buying this stuff but never hit me up, fam, I got you, I keep telling you, just ask.
Hey why I changed ur pfp?
