Love watching your journey. The M645 with a prism finder was my camera in the early 80s. It was a joy in the hands. Thanks for sharing and the trip down memory lane.

Thank you Jim. Most kind. It has been a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to using the camera more and more. Hope everything is well with you in the world sir.

Film helps a photographer slow down and compose properly for each image, I can see the value in it. Cheers. Good video.

Absolutely it does. To be fair I am just as careful with my digital process, mainly because I cannot stand the processing stage so getting it right in camera is very important to me - regardless of how the image has been captured. Many thanks for the comment and support of my channel.

Top job Huw, no question,in answer to you saying does film still have a place in photography, yes of course it does, there is a different quality to a film photograph as there is a distinct difference between digital music and the same music on vynil, Both film and vynil are becoming more popular because the quality is different, and therefore both will continue to exist, maybe as a minority interest, but they will persist because digital isn't the be all and end all, and I suppose is a case of it existing because it can, not because it has to, keep going with film, the results will speak for them selves 👍

Thanks Roger. Vinyl is making a comeback because digit forms of music have become sterile and almost false the quality is so good. Yes, I’ll keep persisting with film; it is a journey that I’m really enjoying. All the best to you sir

I fear to Huw that digital images will cease to be real once AI really takes hold, so film will become the only reliable reality, as it always has been!

I used to have a Mamiya C220 TLR camera and it was a thing of beauty to work with, but very heavy. I always fancied the 645 but too expensive, and to be honest they still are. I now shoot with a Yashica D TLR(fixed lens) using B&W(cost!) and I love the feel of using the TLR and the whole back-to-basics approach of compose-focus-meter-shoot. I do my own processing of the film and scan the negs for post-processing on computer. It's fun but mostly I do it for nostalgia. The end-product does have a unique feel but I can get close-enough with software using digital. It's more about the experience than the result. One question about the 645 which I've always been curious about. Can you rotate the back into portrait format? If not, it seems like it would be clunky to use as a portrait camera. But I've never seen any mention of that feature (it's one reason I've always shot square in medium format and cropped in post!)

When I first did my research into medium format film, the camera that kept coming up as being the better value for money was the Mamiya645. I also got lucky that I found one at a fair for a reasonable price, and also an old camera club buddy also offered me his for a token fee. I looked at several TLRs, and have recently been trawling Nick Carver's YT channel and noted that he too uses a C220. I see what you mean about prices - I can get a decent looking Yashica on eBay for up to £200, but will pay double that for a decent C220. I'm going to persist with the 645 for now and learn to make the best of it, although I have considered Nick Carver's spot metering course as I understand that it is very good. On your question about going portrait with the 645 - yes, it is really clunky. The l-bracket doesn't quite work because I cannot do the fixing nut up tight enough for the bracket to hold in portrait. For the moment, I'm just using a standard Arca plate and flipping the tripod head, but one day I'll Dremel down the bolt so that I could do it up a lot tighter. As ever, thank you for the comment and for supporting my channel. It is greatly appreciated.

Watching your video i think the experience shooting film is more intens than shooting digital. I think however, i am not a good enough photographer to shoot with a medium format film camera

Hello there. Yes, I'd agree with you because the cost per frame is always in the back of my mind. However, I feel this encourages a more deliberate approach and more thought into each frame. That, for me, is a good thing because I thrive on that process of being careful. If you can apply this kind of approach to your digital images, then in my opinion you are half way to being a successful film photographer.

Thanks Guido. It has been an interesting exercise. You are right btw this was recorded last November I think. Remember that I record all my footage in blocks when taking time away to specifically create content. It would have been great to have recorded this in the spring when the colours are right for this time of year but alas it was not to be. I did manage to get out last weekend, and also a week or so ago and actually had the opportunity to create some content so I might gradually get to a point where I've got a mix of block footage plus more recent material mixed in. Heck, I might even get to be able to publish weekly in the not too distant future. Hope that life is treating you well sir.

@huwalban thought so. Well posting weekly gets rhe numbers up fast vut it is a he'll of a lot of work. I'm actualy considering going back to 1 video a week because it's so hard to keep up. I have about a month of material in stock t the moment. During the summer that is working OK but in winter time my stick shortens real quickly and then it gets really difficult. Hope you will be able to increase they are always fun and interesting to watch! Grt guido

Plainly those that say film (analogue) is dead clearly and simply are wrong. As you say look at the industry that still exists and is growing. Indeed Ilford are developing (pardon the pun) new films. There are also hundreds(if not thousands) of UA-cam channels devoted to analogue photography. So no not dead. Very much alive and kicking!

Amen to that, and thank heavens. Hopefully the more that take it on, the cheaper it will become too! Thank you for watching, and for taking the time to leave a comment. It is appreciated.
