I was a soprano in the chorus for this performance. It was one of the most exciting moments in my life. Bernstein was simply astonishing - from the first rehearsals with just the chorus and a piano, to this final, glorious moment. What an experience and what an honour.
Magnificent. In a way I’m glad I wasn’t there for the performance because I would have been jumping up and down and losing my mind. Completely overwhelmed and transported.
I performed this with a CT chorale along with New Haven symphony when I was pregnant with my first child. I could NOT get through it without sobbing. It was one of the most emotional moments of my life.
Wow. I find him not just a major figure in music. but one of the most fascinating people in the popular culture of the second half on the 20th century.
Geez! Only the last couple minutes in a clip and I STILL can't keep a dry eye. It took me well over 20 years to fully get into this piece and be able to say I really had it in my musical memory, but oh-so VERY worth it. I grew up with Lennie's "Young Peoples' Concerts" so feel that I started my ear training RIGHT.
Il dirige un orchestre comme si sa vie en dependait...il ne joue pas mahler...il est gustav mahler...un immense genie de la direction d orchestre...un immense compositeur
For those of you in the States who want to see Mahler 2 live, Esa-Pekka Salonen will be conducting the CSO, arguably one of the top 3 orchestras in the world, in May 2024.
I've loved classical music my entire life but no piece of music has ever moved me like this one did...and watching it in Maestro and this video of the actual performance is just marvelous seeing the energy the orchestra and choir had to put into it. I cannot imagine the thrill it must have been to perform in the magnificent performance.
Something about the wide choral sound makes it a rough sounding performance. Unrefined. But much of Bernsteins work was like that. You really had to be there watching him
I imagined this is the glorious music playing when we're all meeting and hugging everyone we love,( in tears of joy) , united for all eternity, with God in Heaven, forever defeating death, evil and sickness
Just watched this video. Amazing communication form the maestro to the performers. I was once a concert performer, and I can appreciate this version of Mahler #2 like a wet dream. If only he'd get rid of all the begging blark naggers this might me almost watchable.
Reply to @bradramsay8299: Sadly I don't remember the actual date - it was a very long time ago, and I sang that particular piece of music many times with the LSO chorus (always a sublime experience!) and with different conductors.

Tell us more!!! I sang it under Slatkin in Detroit. Memorable, but this performance had to be amazing from your perspective.
What an incredible comment ❤
Wow, you are really blessed!
I am so envious. You were present at one of music's most iconic performances.
Amazing 🤩
Mahler never knew how to end his symphonies because they were just so damn good. He just kept that shit rolling.
If heaven exists and it doesnt sound like this I'll be disappointed.

I grin like an idiot every time I hear the end of Mahler 2, and even more so watching Bernstein conduct it! I love how happy he is!
The final movement is the hand of God, and this comes from an agnostic.
As a classical musician who has conducted youth orchestras,
I must say that
Mahler + Bernstein +
Cooper = tears of joy.
Cooper was an abomination conducting this epic piece like a clown.. Lenny will be spinning in his grave.

Commenting before the Maestro movie blows up
Commenting before this blows up with Bradley Cooper's new movie!
That is beautiful!!! I have tears streaming down my face.
Let’s go Mahler 2. Can’t wait to see Bradley Cooper do this and make Lenny proud!
That just might get me to see a rare movie in the theater. Really hope he nails it.
@@tfhenshawHe does.
He sure does nail it.

Not an easy piece. Took me years as well and my father introduced me to Mahler as a kid.

...Overwhelming emotion, such as no other conductor was ever to have achieved.!
Going to be the highlight of Bradley Cooper's new Maestro film
can't wait. the new trailer gave me chills largely due to this finale which I so deeply adore.
It is, a 5 minute scene of godlike direction from Bradley Cooper !
By far the best scene of the movie
It will be epic no doubt!
It was glorious to see
Super !
I'm singing this FFFF in Maestro
Lindo
It will be incredible seeing Bradley Cooper recreate this
I prefer the original:)

Espero la escena de Maestro
Imagine Christ's tomb opening, and this part comes in ❤
Una experiencia que te acerca a Dios no?
Ni siquiera creo en Dios y estoy de acuerdo
God better have classical music (and all cats, except sphinxes and dogs) in Heaven!
Why watch a recreation when you can see the real Maestro?
Here before the movie
