      what if when he began his journey to become a god in shadow realm, he summoned Melina to renounce the torrent but not just leave it in whatever place because he didn't want for torrent to be left like that, so he gave it to Melina for her to then find the new owner of torrent.

      @@SimplCup It wouldn't make too much sense since his goal and Melina's are too different.
      They would never support the ambition of the other, so I would only imagine that Miquella abandoned Torrent when he first arrived to the Realm of Shadows when Mohg "kidnapped" him and took him to Mohgwyn Palace, and Melina, potentially the Gloam-Eyed Queen and associated with death who was born in the Realm of Shadows as with Messmer, found Torrent.

      Miquella is traveling the land of shadow as we are, he's abandoning parts of himself as we continue through the dlc. The biggest example of this was when he discarded his great rune as we enter mesmers keep. The "torrent" in the art is just another spectral steed, not torrent.

  • @Dujma

    messmer voice change is most probably done due to lore reasons.
    the trailer is portraying him as he is acting in the height of his crusade, pretending to be as menacing as possible to please his mother's wishes.
    doing something he himself didn't want to do, but did only for Marika.
    But, when we reach him in the game, he is already tired of pretending, broken from being abandoned in the realm of shadow.
    you can hear him struggling in his voice.
    It's done beautifully

    • @karayi7239
      @karayi7239 3 місяці тому +122

      Ngl sounds like a stretch.. if anything, the more confused tone of the trailer messmer fits better since it would be a true slap in his face that marika abandoned messmer only for her to opt for a graceless tarnished to be her lord.
      Also, the "mongrel intruder!" is pure "pretending to be as menacing as possible" so I don't see the whole "tired of pretending". His voice DOES sound more tired, but the way he speaks in the trailer is much much more confused which fits better.
      But yeah.. the delivery in the trailer is way cooler. The issue here is that the more of a fan you are, the more you have analysed the trailer, the more you'll feel the rug pulled from underneath you. My brain shorted the SECOND he said "mother" which honestly didn't feel good.

    Regarding the bow: It's possible that it could have originally be meant to reference the "Rider on the White Horse" from Revelation. The rider carries a bow, but is not seen with any arrows. He is given a crown, and he goes out to conquer.
    This rider is never named, but the symbolism of a bow with no arrows seems to reference that the conqueror will rule not by warfare but by compassion (at least initially).
    Perhaps Miquella was going to be similar as he wants to conquer through love (despite the hypocrisy of choosing a warmonger as his consort), but From decided that the imagery was a little too on the nose.

    If Miquella’s story remained relatively unchanged, it would be pretty scary - a thousand year voyage, guided by compassion - which was discarded along with St. Trina (called love on the cross near the grace). 1000 years guided by love, headed by a god that has discarded love. Terrifying.

At first I thought this was a troll video because it starts exactly the same as Ranni's speech. As to the changes in Messmer's voice it still sounds like the same actor but for the trailer they used clean audio and for the ingame they added echo and such to reflect the sound bouncing around the room.
    I also for the first time noticed when the original cutscene is playing when Miquella puts his face near Radahn as he says "Yield the path to us" Radahn looks down and away... like... shame or embarrassment or disappointment. Miquella is the best option for the Lands Between. Formsoft characters are never 100% moral, nor innocent, nor perfect. But Miquella is the closest thing to a good ruler that has ever been offered to the Lands Between. His methods are the most reasonable compared to the wrath, hatred, prejudice, and blood lust of all other rulers. Including us, the tarnished, we are the bad guys in this war too, our path would destroy the Lands' only hope for lasting compassionate peace.
    Miquella's great rune charm is an overall positive power. The charm helps people let go of the evil within; if someone wanted revenge they can now settle for forgiveness, if someone was prejudice they can now tolerate others, and if someone had lust for blood shed they can now seek love. Miquella brought out the best version of each person, gave them love, and gave them hope.
    During our fight we had the power to resist Miquella's charm and so do many other characters like Messmer. There still is a choice to reject Miquella but 99% of people will be more attracted to what he offers than what they currently have, most people will agree with Miquella, because what he offers is valuable to them. Haters try to simply this process to simple brainwashing but it is not that crude nor sinister.
    Mohg wanted Miquella to bring the mother of blood dynasty, Miquella offered him something better. To assume that Mohg is innocent of kidnapping Miquella is a not necessarily. Two things can be true, at the same time, with these complex characters. Mohg was all about blood sacrifices so it's possible that he is ok with helping Miquella in this way, to be the vessel of Radahn's spirit, this is not a tragic end.
    Radahn was a proud and powerful warrior. By his standards he could not simply die, he had to die in glorious battle. Miquella tried to satisfy this honor by asking Malenia to go to war with Radahn, they were both too powerful for each other, so stalemate persisted until the tarnished rose.
    Miquella then sent Melina to persuade a tarnished to help in his plans. Most of the work had been done my Malenia and we come to finish off Radahn in honorable battle.
    Long ago Radahn promised to be lord and consort to Miquella. The reign of Miquella has all the good aspects of the Golden Order but with out the shunning of the graceless. Miquella extends grace and blessing to all in the Lands. Radahn would find it easy to support Miquella's Order because it is just a better version of the Golden Order. His loyalty would remain. consistent.
    Haters of Miquella will see these events in a sinister filter, this is unreasonable because there is a more honorable way to except what Miquella planned. Each one of these characters have good reasons to give Miquella a chance, the Charm helps but it's a positive help, not sinister.
    When Miquella divulged his love, it was specifically his love of self that died. He is still clearly able to love Radahn and showing compassion to an entire kingdom clearly communicates love. Saint Trina seeks to protect Miquella from the bondage of being a deity, that is self-love. Miquella had to let go of what was good for himself to obtain the power to serve everyone in his kingdom. Clearly he has sacrificed just as much as his flowers sacrificed to obtain compassion, leading by example.

      @LayDownAndRot 2 місяці тому +9

      I agree mostly, but I think you're almost inventing your own fan-canon. If the game says Miquella abandoned his love, he abandoned his love. We can assume whatever Miquella is motivated by now; categorically *isn't love* . We're SUPPOSED TO feel a sense of dread about Miquella's new order specifically because what we find out he's abandoned. Like it or not, that's the take-away we're supposed to have.
      But it sure is better than what Ranni's ending is, since simply the words she says about what her age is going to be like are dreadful. I don't care about what "translation issues" there were, or what "the japanese says", what it says in english is what it is. It's on FROM's team if there was a mistake, the product is what it is. They don't get as much shit as the should for fucking up their biggest storyline.

Here beginneth the chill night that encompasses all, reaching the great beyond." which is similar in words to Miquella's "I hereby swear. to every living being and every living soul. now comes the age of our Eden. a thousand year voyage guided by compassion, beginning here, love encompasses all" And I also wonder if maybe that cutscene where Miquella raises his hand over an unveiled Scadutree, seemingly causing it to pulse with light, might be some sort of ending or choice where The Lands Between, and The Realm of Shadow are restored to what they once were, as overlapping both maps and scaling the shadowlands a bit perfectly aligns them like puzzle pieces. I wonder if maybe there was a choice between fighting Miquella and keeping the lands separate, or if you could join his cause and reunite the realms. This would be supported by our ability to side with Leda vs the others at certain points in the game and by Miquella's claim that "No living things will be denied, no deed censured. We also need to remember that Malenia’s conquest was solely to secure Radahn as a consort for Miquella. So making the end scene about Radahn and Miquella’s ‘relationship’ ties the the entire story together, starting from the first trailer released almost 5 years ago (when Malenia and Radahn clash). To me, it’s beautiful story telling. They really played the long game with this one.

      Radahn fought in like, one war. There's no evidence he aided in the war against the Giants, the war against the Dragons, or any other major war before the Shattering.
      He's defined by his men's loyalty to him, his love of animals, and the command over the stars (implied to be defensive action taken to stop the Fallingstar Beasts and Astels). Radahn is a compassionate boy who spent all his time preparing to be ready for war and when he finally got the war he wanted it was against his own family.
      And he choked. His most famous battle was a standstill with Malenia, and the opening cinematic of the game shows him getting stomped by Morgott. And I would wager he choked because he never really wanted war, he just wanted to be a hero.

      The story presented in the trailers is: Marika fucked shit up in the Realm of Shadow, Messmer rules over what's left of it. Miquella abandoned the Lands Between to investigate. NPCs gang up to go and find him. That's all in the final game.
      Messmer plays a smaller role than expected but that's almost certainly just a misdirect to distract from Miquella being the villain, the same way Godrick was presented as The Big Bad of Elden Ring in its own trailers to downplay how big the game was. Idk the deal with the missing Miquella cutscene but I would be truly astonished if anyone bought the DLC solely because the trailer included that snippet of a cutscene.

    The idea of Miquella having a bow might actually be a huge Bible reference. In Revelation 6, the four horsemen of the Apocalypse are a callback to the book of Zechariah when spiritual entities are reporting and influencing global politics. The first of the riders is a white rider holding a bow, and later passages in chapter 13 clarify it will be through the promise of false peace. If that is the idea they had in mind, it's pretty hardcore they'd have people who did their homework enough include that little detail about the biggest baddie in Elden Ring and the introduction of the Antichrist.

    I think the reason they scrapped the line for Marika is that they didn't want the players to know that ending-wise, Marika was trying to do the same thing as Ranni with the reference to the 1000 years and all and ridding the world reigned by gods, the only difference being that Ranni wants everyone to have the freedom of being, whilst Marika wants to be a god of kindness. Ranni just wants everyone not to be controlled by god but knows that if her reign last forever she will be no different than a god. Marika's 1000 years of kindness has no lore reason as to why she wants 1000 years, she wants the world to have compassion, kindness and all that, forever, but she doesn't know that if she turns into a god, she have to force people who don't want kindness and compassion to be so, and that is no different than a god, even if it's the moral good thing to do.

Marika's Age of Order, bathed in rays of gold sure sounded like a good idea at the time too, I expect, but it was born out of genocide, murder, manipulation, and control, just like Miquella's own ascension. Marika banishing and sealing away Messmer I took as foreshadowing for what Miquella would eventually do to Radahn.
      Do you know what 3 areas of the Lands Between have recieved Miquella's love? Caelid, the Haligtree, and Mohgwyn Palace. Rotting wastelands where tens of thousands of people likely suffered, for no reason at all than to appease Miquella. Is that the 'Eden' that Miquella seeks to create? It's no coincidence the guardian of the sealing tree, who stops the player from reaching Miquella, is the creator of the scarlet rot.

      @@tTaseric with "perfect ending" i didn't mean it morally, but on a design level, because i completely agree with you, tho ranni's ending bitter sweetness is questionable, you could argue it was straight up just good, Godwhyn was the most loyal ally of the golden order, which was insanely twisted, we could see him as a fanatic for a totalitarian regime, i don't really hold him in high regards, even tho that is arguable as he spared fortissax, but was still considered "the golden".
      Radahn was better off dead killing him was mercy, that's litterally what he wanted and i would argue that it is much better to die in battle as a warrior than wonder around while crazy and with god's TBC, the only bitter sweetness is blaid as his madness was directly caused by the complete rebellion to the greater will, and iji, but it wasn't ranni's fault, we don't know who sent the black knives.
      As for its ending an order far away from the lands between is the best possible, it grants the so needed death to the lands between, and most importantly freedom, while the god and the lord (basically the leaders) take upon their shoulders the weight of the world saving everyone, it's pretty much christianity, ranni died resurrected and ascended to heaven to free all people from the chains and suffered for their freedom.

    I keep telling people that this DLC' story is incredibly disappointing and lack luster. There is a large amount of evidence that the devs butchered a lot of the story elements (lore and story are not the same thing) in order to focus more on refining the gameplay additions and open world, then released it without working on the cobbled together story in order to push out the DLC after _two years_ of extended dev time.

    • @yulfine1688

      extended dev time? You do realize the dlc wasn't even a thought until 6 months or so later after the base game..They didn't even start on the dlc or think of it until all the major patches for elden ring were done. It's also rumored there was 2 dlcs and they ended up smashing them together so a lot was cut and changed etc, it is likely. The DLC is quite amazing nonetheless for 1.5 years of development a few repeat bosses but most are unique or different. The world is massive and has a decent amount around to explore and is indeed at times empty or lacking this is true. There's a lot we just don't know

    • @jonathanoriley8260
      @jonathanoriley8260 3 місяці тому +2

      @@yulfine1688 You more or less just repeated the exact arguement I was making but in different wording.
      My entire point is that the "story" and even parts of the lore were obviously cobbled together quite messily in the DLC to the point that the said story ended up being very lackluster. And yes, the open world itself and the gameplay additions were mostly fantastic, which is why I made a point of mentioning how the devs very clearly prioritized refining those elements over the story prior to the DLC's release.
      If what you say is true about how the devs only started working on the DLC six months after release, then that just proves my point even more. Shadow of the Erdtree alone is arguably as large as a legacy Soulsborne game. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's bigger than DS1. The fact the devs tried to tackle this effort in such a relatively short amount of time and possibly ended up mashing two originally separate DLCs into one goes to show how severely they underestimated the work load. And because of that, the story elements suffered a noticeable drop in quality and continuity due to the greater need of getting the actual meat-and-potatoes of the open world and gameplay additions ready for release.
