For the last year or so, my display would not turn on until the amp had warmed up for a few minutes or longer. Sometimes it would shut off again. I followed your instructions, and it's fixed! Newbie to soldering, but found a another video that explained how to do solder properly. The whole thing took me about 2 hours. Thanks!!!!!
Same Problem here… I just supposed that this was the problem but I didn’t know how to get to the soldering of the display. Thank you for sharing. Greetings from Germany David
Thanks for the tips! I was able to repair a DSP-A1 that I've had in the family since it was new. With just a little clean-up it literally looks and performs like a new unit. These were Yamaha's original monster home theater receivers and they still outperform the newer units albeit without all the new bells and whistles.
Yup thats the problem. Hard to see with the naked eye the solder breaks, but with magnifiing glass, easy to spot. Nearly half required soldering. Thanks, easy fix.
Thank you for this guide. Just one question, did you have to re-create the "volcano" on all of the connectors or just those three you were showing? Thank you very much.
dear Naptech, i have a cinema dsp A1 and i didn't used it for a long time. Now i hear a click when i hit the power bottun, but the machine won't turn on. any idea's ?
Just open it the unit .and then clean all the dust inside..then resoldering the main power..and then try to turn on it again..THEN YOU WILL SEE THE MAGIC!🤩🤩🤩😍
I just give mine a tap on the display and it kicks on. Yeah, temporary solution, but if I try to fix myself, I know I'll screw something up. As long as it plays, that's all I need.
It's not even close to being the best Yamaha ever made, that'd be the MX-10000 and matching pre or the B-2x and C-2x. The A1 is largely compromised to get so many different sections and functions into a single 430mm wide box. Still, handy vid for A1 owners.
Dont want to try it, mine is having the same issue. Anyone in NYC want to help? This unit is Herculean Beast. I don't care what anyone says, they do not make units like this again. Stolid metal and one glorified unit to marvel at just listening to 2ch music.
Look at when the video was done. Over 12 yrs ago. Videos back then were not too good unless you had real expensive 'hi-res' cameras back then so what do you expect? The HD standard had not even fully arrived back then.

Wow, I can barely believe I'm 40K+ views on UA-cam without even trying. I'm the guy doing the dismantling/soldering in this video, AMA here.
Stll working well matey. You did a great job!
@@naptechI don't know what's more surprising, that you still have it, or that it's lasted an extra 16 years with that fix!
thnx naptech, i've done my unit also, now my DSP A1 display is back to its glory.
Great vid. I did this fix 6 months ago and its still going strong!
Thanks !!!

Do you have solution:
left front channel is in more quiet than right channel, what would be the solution for that?
