This is a lovely sewing space. I have an entire room for my crafting now since the children are grown but when they were young I had a similar area to yours, tucked into the corner of our bedroom with the addition of utilizing under bed storage boxes for fabrics. I started sewing at age 5 when my grammy taught me to sew on buttons which was challenging for both of us as I was legally blind and hospitalized many times to treat tumors until age 8. I was so proud of my skill and my enthusiasm for sewing has never left me over the next 65 yrs! When I was 8 my neighbor who was a high school home ec teacher taught me to sew using her old singer sewing machine. My mom had no interest in sewing but she did encourage my efforts and bought me my first machine, an old used singer in the traditional black with gold lettering when I was 12. Sewing has been a wonderful thread running through my life with lots of good memories attached. My neighbor also encouraged me to enter my completed garments in the county fairs and I always encourage folks to do that still as it may encourage another person to take up sewing. new subbie.
I had a space very similar to yours for probably 20 years, nowhere near as neatly organised though. Just an odd shaped corner in the dining room. When we moved to our current house however, my room is now 6.5 x 7 meters and its laid out with cupboards and benches for my machines. I have a drop side cutting table! A fabric storage unit. I made an ironing station, its 155 wide x 50cm so i can iron the entire width of the fabric in one go with no annoying narrow end! With storage for all the ironing aids underneath. Oh my gosh! Some days i just want to lay on the floor and make lint angels, its sooo wonderful after ‘making do’ for so long 🥰
Everything u do , create and store is so clever . This video shows there is no need to have a huge sewing room to sew , Organisation and dedication makes a productive sewist ! Thank you for sharing dear Suzanne , I am positive that this video will encourage many people to make better use of their available sewing space . Well done 👍 🌺🌺🌺
WOW, I don’t know how you are doing it. You are a very talented lady! I know many people who have a lot of spaces and a lot of tools, but they don’t have even half of your knowledge! Bravo 👏 I can’t imagine if you had a big space and lots of tools, then, what you can create! Keep up the great work! You inspire many of us! 👏
Dear friend, thank you for sharing your sewing space. For me at this moment my sewing space is in the dining room , and sometimes I feel frustrated because have a space for my stash and notions, but when I saw your well organized space I started to get ideas about how to organize all my fabrics, and notions. Thank you for sharing and forgive my grammar because English is not my first language (I 'm Mexican ), but I try to do my best.
Hey, people who speak English as their first language don't do as well as you! No apology needed! It just shows that you want to speak & write English well. And that you care! Kudos to you!
When the kids were small, the dining room table was my sewing room. Now they are gone, I picked the great room over the garage. I love my room, but who can find anything now! Sometimes small is better. Where do you keep your fabric stash!
Love your sewing organization and how you’ve made it work. My 2nd bedroom is now also my office since I’ve been working from home since March, my sewing space, exercise room with spin bike, guest room and catbox room. I would love more room!
I knew your sewing space would look completely neat and tidy just from the background of your intro. When I started sewing many years ago I did it on my dining room table so it required tiding up after each sewing session and I believe that for some that is much better than having a larger space that you can close the door on which then tends to sometimes lead to chaos.I too have always used my serger standing up, I don't really believe that I could do any other way. I also sometimes sew standing up. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Wow. I am so impressed not just with the efficiency but the way you've done it all in white, keeping it so clean! Mine would be a mess all the time, although maybe not if it was right off the kitchen since I can't cook in a mess! lol! It's a beautiful space and you're so wise to have just what you need, not a whole lot of extra stuff simply because you've collected it. I especially love your book collection and need to check into those that you use regularly - I think a visit to my library is in order. Thank you so much for this tour, it was lovely!
Very, very nice sewing space! A lot of beautiful ideas and thought went into organizing this wonderful space any sewist would love to have! Thanks so much for sharing!
You've created a beautiful and versatile workspace that I'm certain adds to your desire to create and sew beautiful garments. And, I especially like your favorite sewing books. Just when I thought I had purchased all of the good sewing and design books... Wow, there's always more. Thank you for sharing and showing your workspace!
I love your sewing space! I have very little room for sewing and crafting supplies, so I enjoyed watching the tour and spotting organisation ideas and tips.
Wow you are so organised and tidy. I am just in the process of setting up a sewing space in my dining room. Found this vlog really useful. It just goes to show you don’t need a massive amount of space to create beautiful garments, as you do so well. Thanks Susanne 🤗🤗🤗
Our spaces and contents are so alike , is a clapper worth buying ? Don’t you ever think , if you done a stock take to see , how much it’s all worth . Alex’s drawers aren’t they they best & Kallax . I just purchased the Ikea table that rises and falls so I can have a cutting table. We even have the same 📚 books . Thanks for sharing your room . 🥰
Love it,so compact and loads of ideas esp as many people have only small spaces. Great to see someone who produces such beautiful garments does so from ur kitchen- think lots of us will be planning an ikea trip and searching for a bureau to refashion 👌😘
Your space is stunning, well designed, neat and functional which’s very important when you sew and make videos, love it all. Thank you for sharing your ideas and knowledge with us. Blessings
Thank you so much for sharing Susanne. A place for everything and everything in its place! It's the same here but in my dining room. Love your ideas for flowery boxes, and the envelopes for your patterns.
thank you for sharing. I agree. You don’t have to have a big space to sew. My space just under the stairs...housing my horn sewing cabinet. my motto...small space big project😁
i'm surprised at the sturdiness of the ikea bureau.. i wld hv never imagined that its fold out desk would support the weight of a sewing machine.. great video.. very inspiring!
I would like to know how you store your fabrics et how you store pieces of fabrics after sewing I enjoy your storage and your videos Excuse my bad English
Always wanted to see your se wing space , I knew you had to be super organized . You demonstrate high efficiency and creativity as well as couture level making 🌷👌🏾👼🏿🙍🏽💕
I have always been of the opinion that you only need 3 stitches to in garment making. A straight stitch & sometimes a zig zag for wovens, and a modified zig zag for knits and very stretchy fabrics. A button hole attachment is nice if you are not comfortable with manual button holes. All the rest of those fancy stitches just go to waste with me which is why I prefer my vintage Singer 403A with cams. Maybe one day I will elevate my equipment.
I can't believe I got to the end of this video and still have absolutely no idea where or how large your fabric stash is. I know you have one and that it is entirely out of control because every single one of us sewing enthusiasts does...
Thanks for sharing this. I got some great ideas for my sewing room. I'm a bit haphazard when it comes to organising so I need to take a lesson from you. Always enjoy your videos. Love your presenting style, always clear and informative. Regards Colin, North Wales.
Gosh, I am so impressed with how organised your space is, really inspiring. I have had those Nathalie Bray books since I was a design student in the 60s...
I found the bureau and cabinet. I bought mine off of Facebook Marketplace as the top is no longer sold by Ikea. IMPORTANT TIP ON VINTAGE PATTERN SMELL: Suzanne, put a charcoal briquette into the bag with your vintage patterns (you might want to wrap it in a piece of cloth first) and close your back back up. After a week or so the smell should be gone!
I was always neat and tidy, joiner arrived well before lockdown moved everything, now it's a top! As I'm still going through the wars I dread even thinking about it, so...... When can you visit to sort it out? lol 😂 🤣
One of the reason that old patterns smell is that they were probably made with a cheaper mechanical-pulp paper which did not filter out the tannins and other chemicals in the pulp. These cause the paper to yellow over time and cause some of that musty, old-book smell, though it's not responsible for 100% of the smell.
Thanks for sharing. What is the number for the vogue pattern you showed? To freshen the vintage patterns put some arm and hammer baking soda in the bag in which they are being stored.
Hi, I know that this is very late in the game, but this is when I found your channel. Apologies for not finding you earlier. In regards to this video I do have a question.Where did you get your sewing ham, please and what brand id it? It looks larger than the usual 20 cm or so that I seem to be looking at and wanting a slightly larger one. I'm in no rush, but if I can get that covered I'd ve very pleased. On another note: I think my husband would love it if I was even a 0.0001 times more like you, when it comes to organization. He would be you if he was sewing, while I have taken over the whole kitchen table with my lovely vintage, green, 1961 Husqvarna Automatic sewing machine that does everything I ask of it, except for buttonholes, but I've seen a vintage device for that. On top of that I have a small bin for small fabric scraps, two shoe boxes of miscellaneous sewing things, a couple of round plastic containers for my markers, seam un-pickers, sewing gage, scissors etc. Then some fabrics, some clothes waiting to be repaired, I'm sure you get my drift. I'm very impressed with how you keep so organized. In another life I'm going to be more like you, and make my wonderful husband happier. Yours, Ann P.S. How does one get a thimble in the right size? Every thimble in my whole existence have been way to big. D.S.
Thanks for sharing your sewing space. Your are so organised. Do you iron on your breakfast bar? I would love to hear more about your sewing practice and how you manage to produce so much, not to mention the vlogging!
I'm also thinking of getting the IKEA kallax for my storage. Thx for tips helping me think through the way I group supplies. Does butting cutting mats work? I heard you mention that. I always thought I'd get skipping
Perfect set-up! 😊 What I as an Aussie in a typical 3 bedroom house-... imagine what a small house or apartment in London or New York would have as a sewing space! Nearly at the end and wondering where your Fabric is....
I am looking today some sewing area or room videos to get motivation to organize mine that looks like a hoarders room. Where are your fabrics? Did I miss them?
Hope you crack back into corsetry! I was wondering when you would delve into that universe. My very first seeing project was a fully steel-boned tight-lacing because I am a masochist and felt like doing 600+ hours of research back when things had to be scrounged for in the very depths of the internet. Corsetry is about as much work as a Chanel jacket but with less hand sewing and more engineering challenges.
I am puzzled - where is your fabric stash? You have a larger amount of haberdashery than me. I have 2 large boxes of fabric and 10 plus small boxes of patterns. So I think you probably have some fabric on hand to sew.
Great to see your super organised, tidy sewing space. What would we do without Ikea? 😀 I also feel more comfortable standing up to use my overlocker - it just feels right 👍🏻. Thanks for sharing your sewing space.

Brilliant solution for your sewing machine! I have the same Hemnes secretary desk and am wondering why I didn't think of this. Thanks!
Put a dryer sheet in the bag with your vintage patterns to get rid of the musty smell.

I use clear storage boxes. I also store items (zippers, buttons, etc.) by color. I once stored by item, but found color works better for me.
That's a great vlog, thanks so much for sharing your sewing and storage spaces.
For the musty smell for the patterns in the bag you can put a commercial bought small bag of charcoal to absorb the smell.
I love your sewing space
Jeepers super tidy. My big sewing room is a complete mess - always. I’ll have to get tidying
What an efficient and attractive set up!
Hi, I really enjoyed the video. I like the way you have organised your things 👍👍
Excellent set up. I'm very spoilt with having a room but then when I had a house full I sewed on the table
A lovely setup. Thanks for showing us!

I love your pattern organization! 💕 I may need to get some of those envelopes. I work in a pretty small sewing space as well.
Me too
Thank you for sharing! Many great ideas for organizing tidy spaces. When will we see your fabric stash😉?
Todo muy nítido y organizado.Siempre veo todos sus videos.Saludos desde Puerto Rico.
Try putting your smelly vintage patterns in a plastic bag with cat litter or a dryer sheet. We do that in our library.
Great set up!!!!! Are all the cabinets from Ikea? Would love to see how you store your fabric stash as well. Great video.
Wow that is so bright and neat!! Thank you!
Love your sewing setup! I have the same overlooked and I use it standing up, too.
Super organizzata 👍!
A lot of great ideas for me to copy. Thank you for the video. I am keeping this one for future reference. xx
Superb almirah and superb setup you should become interior designer for specially those who live in small flats and floors
Your videos are so soothing and so well done! 💕

Loved the tour, where do you keep your fabric?
And the UFO's LOL!
Great space!! ✂️🧵❤️
Thanks for sharing your sewing space. Your are so organised. Do you iron on your breakfast bar?

This is a great idea. Thank you.
Pretty, functional, compact, and neat. What more can you ask for? Very, very nice. Do you use the breakfast bar for pattern layout and fabric cutting?
That was really interesting and very organised. Where do you store your fabric? Please don’t tell me you only buy what you need!?
Lindo seu cantinho da costura ☺👍
You’re so organized!❤️
Very useful ! Thank you so much. But must say that I feel shy because of my desordering sewing space
Where did you get the bureau and cabinet? Great idea.
Thanks for sharing from Atlanta Ga USA helpful 👀 next time and grate setup
My sewing room is the no longer needed kids room, too. Nice video. But i miss the fabric. Where do you storage it?
Enjoyed this video. Just one question, where is your sewing stash? Thanks for doing these videos.
Perfect set-up! 😊

nicely organized...what model of sewing machine do you have? I am looking to buy one, and would like your input. Thank you!

I loved this video
I sew at a dry cleaner and I have my over locker where I stand up to use it. My space is narrow and I don't want more chairs in the way
Where do you keep your fabric ?
you could use a Dreambox sewing station.
Nice space, where do you keep the fabric?
This is so lovely 😍😍 Cellestine
What thread brands do you consider good quality?
super ordenada, thankss por compartir
I am puzzled - where is your fabric stash?
You have a larger amount of haberdashery than me. I have 2 large boxes of fabric and 10 plus small boxes of patterns. So I think you probably have some fabric on hand to sew.
👍👍excellent video!! Helped me s lot!!
Great space!!
I just saw your links thank a bunch!
Great to see your super organised, tidy sewing space. What would we do without Ikea? 😀
I also feel more comfortable standing up to use my overlocker - it just feels right 👍🏻.
Thanks for sharing your sewing space.
I probably missed it somewhere. I saw your camera is an Olympus Pen, is there a model number?
Drop some whole bay leaves in your vintage bag of patterns. Perhaps it will take care of the bad smell. I use them for my sweater storage...
I also stand up when I use my serger. :)
Perfection to precision
Lovely!!
