Avian Influenza: Building Capacity to Tackle One Health Efforts

Since the discovery of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in commercial dairy cattle in March 2024, experts from both federal and state agencies have been working around the clock to test and research how the H5N1 (Bird Flu) virus transferred into dairy cattle. Dr. Kim Dodd, the director of the Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL), gives insight into how everyone, from federal officials down to our farmers, are working as one to prevent the spread of HPAI.
