This is the first "Lodi" reaction video I've come across. I grew up in Lodi, CA, and this song has always had a special place in my heart since it's my hometown, and I grew up listening to CCR. They are, absolutely, one of my favorite bands. In fact, after I left Lodi for a few years upon graduating from college, I moved back to Lodi where I have lived ever since. I guess you could say I'm still "stuck in Lodi, again."
I was born and raised in Stockton which is next to Lodi. In the 80s it was nothing but a few local businesses and a lot of farmhouses. It's really changed into a pleasant little town. I was a Census worker for the 2020 Census assigned to find homeless encampments and I searched the entire town and only found 2 places, about 10 homeless total (and they all had cars or trailers). Meanwhile in Stockton, thousands of homeless.
Awesome reaction. I grew up going to neighbor's in all directions and listening to bands outside in the evening. I sit on my porch and sing every evening. I think my neighbors believe I'm the crazy singing lady!
Finally, somebody reacts to Lodi. It's always been one of my favorite CCR tunes. Definitely, a small town, country vibe. Your absolutely right about that.
@@bryanknutson1666 I recently met my sister there at the park with the large pond. We had burgers from the drive-in across the street. I can't imagine what it was like growing up there. Being on Hwy 99 you get a lot of traffic of people always going somewhere else, either north or south. But, for a lot of those who do go to Lodi, go there because of this song. What is that like?
As a musician, that has played in front of people drunk so many times, this is one of my favorite Creedence songs. I've performed at live many times. But overall I just love the feeling of it and great observation about his voice. One thing that I hardly ever see anybody first react to is their song Hideaway. It's so soulful and impactful and powerful. And his voice goes back and forth from really raspy to just really gentle and wistful. It's such a beautiful song with some dark undertones.
Reactors rarely play anything but their hits. But it's not their fault of course. It's what people suggest who don't know anything about their extended catalog. The first album and Pendulum are filled with more obscure songs which are not less than their hits. Hideaway is one of them, so is Walk On The water, Gloomy, and Penthouse Pauper is another one. All great songs, but people just don't know them.
The little map showing the bay area is where I grew up , most of my family from when the immigrated landed in California and never left, my grandparents owned a hotel in the next town over from Lodi, in Ione, the area is full of ranches, cattle, farms, and hot summers, windy winters, and not much to do but hang out with friends and listen to music.
All I wanted to do growing up in Mexico's City in the late 60's early 70's was to visit California, you know, San Francisco. Oakland, Lodi, ..., well, I did it!!! Loved this band.
When I was a very young boy in the mid '70s we would go down to the basement and listen to music just about every night as I recall. My dad was really into stereo and having the best speakers and equipment. He had a set of Macintosh, receiver, tuner, and I believe he had a teac reel to reel and a teac cassette player. We also had a nice record player. The two groups that I remember listening to the most were creedence Clearwater revival and The Beatles. And when I was at that age I didn't know who I liked more, but I loved both of those groups so much. Rubber soul was our favorite album by the Beatles back then, we all agreed. I recall listening to Born on the bayou, that record we had, but when the newer record came out with Hey tonight and Molina, I couldn't believe how good they were. They were just fantastic, especially John Fogerty. Our favorite musicians where John Fogerty and John Lennon, they were the two in our household that we consider the greatest. It was such a great time back then
I was a truck driver for a minute, riding with a trainer up and down the east coast when I told him, this ain't for me, wanna go home. He dropped me off at a truck stop in Lodi Ohio. I know it's not the Lodi he was singing about, but I was stuck in Lodi, all day. But, I still love this tune. Yeah. Peace
I fueled up in Lodi, OH at least 30 times during my 11 years as a long haul trucker... The only place I was stuck was Des Moines after I broke my thumb and three fingers playing bumper truck bouncing my rig off the foot high curbs on an interstate offramp during an ice storm. I had to wait 28 hours for the next bus taking me anywhere but Chicago or Omaha... lol
When my friends and I were kids, we’d listen to this song and laugh and laugh at the line “stuck in Lodi again” because we thought it was “suckin’ an old dry onion.”
I lived in Lodi as a kid (aged 2-12) and loved it. Great weather and we played baseball basically year-round...now...if you're stuck in Stockton, just a stone's throw south...that's real trouble...
After all these years I still sing "oh lord, stuck in Lodi again" when driving through on the 99. It's just for fun, as small central valley towns go, it was never that bad but a musician from the Bay Area wouldn't want to get stuck there back in the day.
Hello from Lodi, California! It's not a bad place today. Not as small as it used to be. At the time of the song, it was still pretty much a sundown town (you don't normally associate those with California, but they were there) with a lot of wine money. Today it's still flush with wine money, but it's more diverse. They still do everything they can to stay separate from nearby Stockton, for better or worse. Every time a crime happens, the old timers grumble about either the homeless or "the Stockton element." It's a weird, but neat, place.
From arlo to zydeco these guys just absorbed everything musical they grew up with and the whole southern rock genre came from those influences . Lucky for us !
My alltime favorite CCR song! Just unreal. That is from one of the few bands or artists that do not have ANY fast forward/Skip songs. You put them on and press play and just let it flip when it's done. This to me is their best. Loved sharing it with you.

Without a doubt, my favourite song from Creedence. "If I only had a dollar for every song I've sung and every time I had to play while people sat ther drunk"... Man, I would be rich...
CCR is one of my three favorite bands. Fogerty is the greatest singer songwriter of my generation. You simply can not sit still listening to a CCR song.
I had the pleasure to see John Fogerty live almost 20 years ago. He was crazy good! And I remember him switching guitars for pretty much every song lol. I grew up with CCR, I love them.
Just love this song so much ! .. Along with "Looking Out My Back Door", this is my favourite CCR song .. It's low key and laid back in style, but the lyrics make an impact .. Very under-rated for sure.
Sweet! I grew up a few hours drive south of Lodi and my dad used to recite the chorus to this song when I was a kid back when. That video was definitely shot in California, but maybe not in Northern California where Lodi is located. There's too much desert in that video. I was stuck in Lodi more than once. Actually was trying to open the door to my room at the Lodi Motor Inn right when the Loma Prieta earthquake of '89 hit. Despite being that far away the shaking was quite unnerving.
I had JUST got off of that double-deck highway that collapsed. In meetings at Alameda. Was staying at the Holiday Inn right there where the bridge from S.F. makes landfall on the Oakland side. At first I didn't realize how close I came until I saw the shipping containers on the news and I realized had been stopped right there to turn left at the hotel. There are more jewels on the albums like this which are rarely played. His voice is raspy, but emotional and soulful too. Hard to describe. You believe everything he sings. Straight from the heart.
When my daughter was young she used to like “cotton fields” and that was back in the mid 90s. I used to put that on and play it on my guitar and we both would sing it.
Great song. Especially because he always wrote about Louisiana but I think he’s actually from Lodi. It’s my favorite CCR song. Not just because the music but I feel the story is authentic about the band

Get to see JF August 19 this year at Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln Ca. Looking forward to it! One of his great blues songs
Last week I declared "Green River" to be my favorite---now it burns because I am loving "Lodi" so frkng much right now. But that is the way I am with music. Lex, I don't know how you do it but you manage to make me laugh more than half the time. And btw, even if I 'see' a song differently, it never feels like you're wrong...if you know what I mean
Listening to Lex describing how she experiences sounds is always very interesting.
Long as I can see the light..The night time is the right time
My favorite! Thank you.
I used to think the lyric was "stuck in old dyin again"! Internet took the mystery out of everything.
My absolute favorite song from CCR! Thanks for this reaction. 🙂
Hey Brad, Lex just keeps revealing her talents! Great reaction!
I've lots of folks in Sacramento, CA, so I've been through Lodi more than a few times. It's still kind of small-town, but it's definitely not the Lodi of the late-60s.
