The full-length version has some of Fogarty's best guitar work.
Never go for the short version of a CCR song. The album cut for this one is over 8 minutes, and there are a couple of really good live recordings over 10 minutes. You _definitely_ want to enjoy the extended jam.
Great comment! I like ccr’s version of Heard it through the Grapevine as well as Marvin Gaye’s
I agree, but you never know when UA-cam will block something. They like to block the original, long version of songs.
Have you heard Ramble Tamble? Such a good long CCR tune. So underrated
100%
I agree. I am always crestfallen when I see a Reacter choosing a cropped version (or a censored version, or an iffy live version of a killer studio song). But how would they know?
I'm old enough to remember when these songs came out. Every new year in my life I am even more astounded at how good CCR was; and they were just a "band" back in the day. Wow.
The original version of this song was by Rockabilly artist Dale Hawkins & released in 1957. It had the great James Burton on guitar ( who played with both Elvis & Ricky Nelson ). So that's James' riff as played by John F. on this cover version, which is the most well-known version of the song even though it was covered by lots of people including The Rolling Stones & Johnny Rivers.
Burton never got credit for co-writing the song, but he was only about 15 when he played on it. Talent showed young in him.
This song was featured in a great scene in the Vietnam movie, "Apocalypse Now".
It is very much of that era.
The singer in that band at the USO show was a friend of mine, Sammy McFadden, Flash Cadillac & The Continental Kids.
Can't hear this song without thinking of "Apocalypse Now". That USO scene is unforgettable
@@jaquestraw1 Exactly.
Albert Smith --- for a movie with non stop great scenes and great soundtrack for each scene, this song and the scene it plays in is a very well wrtitten and filmed part of a film that is one of the best ever made.
Had nice dancing girls! hubba hubba!
One of the most underrated bands of the Classic Rock era. A great jam band and a hit machine. They did it all! Great choice.✌️❤️🎶
Great tune!
John Fogerty is certainly underrated as a guitarist. Funky little licks!
Yes. Great satanic brutal death metal songs. The blast beats are nice.
A lot of Credence fans know of Fogerty's solo work under his own name, but many missed out on the first album he did after the breakup of CCR: The Blue Ridge Rangers. Absolutely fabulous bluegrass/ traditional country album! On it Fogerty does all the vocals and plays all the instruments, but he didn't even put his name on the original release, though it was added later and is on the cd. Pure bliss.
Per Songfacts This was co-written and originally recorded by rockabilly singer Dale Hawkins in 1956. His version hit US #27 a year later. Eleanor Broadwater and Stan Lewis wrote it with Hawkins.
John Fogerty had big plans for "Susie Q" from the start. He intended for it to define CCR's distinct character. In Bad Moon Rising: The Unofficial History of Creedence Clearwater Revivial, he said, "I knew I needed to work on arranging the song so that the band would sound like Creedence Clearwater Revivial, would sound professional, mysterious and also have their own definition. The song I chose was 'Susie Q.' I decided not to wring the song myself. I decided to pick something that existed because it'd just be easier. I'd be less self-conscious about doing things."
During the 70's and early 80's, I used to go to dances which featured live bands, and this song was a must for the bands to cover and it would fill up the dance floor with everyone dancing.
Brad's response this time leaves me speachless...speechless...! Lol
I like the way he comes in singing higher and with more grit near the end of the song. Great classic rock song! Thanks, cats.
Brad & Lex, you'll love their "Who’ll Stop The Rain"& "Sweet Hitch-Hiker"!!!
ramble tamble
Much better songs!
Hitch-a Hiker 😁
Been waiting for them to finally get to both of them..
probably the third song i remember liking as a child. born in 65
Every tune CCR covered was smashed outta the park....G.G. Molly, this one, Midnight Special etc...what a band, 🙏👍🙏👍
Yes, long version is the best!
CCR popular with Vietnam veterans.
I love how this band does I Heard It Through The Grapevine. Fantastic!
Suzie Q was the name of Rocky Marciano's right cross punch in boxing it was notorious as being the hardest punch ever in boxing.
Yes, but it originally came from the name of a dance in the 30's
It just doesn't get much more swampy/Delta than this... I think Brad's headphones were unplugged & he was just reading lyrics 😄
Right!
Brads a dud. He was thinking about a tub a Vaseline. Maybe a bit creepy too
Louisiana-born singer and guitarist Dale Hawkins wrote and recorded this earlier CCR covered it.
Yes,in 1957.
Back then I think there must have been a law that every band that played a high school dance had to play this song...yep we had live bands at our dances.
This song is playing in apocalypse now movie .. crazy playboy scene where their to entertain troops in Vietnam ..
True, makes you feel good - especially that first album IMHO, their sound is not polished yet. It has that raw southern blues vibe, mixed with psychedelic effects.
Awww. You went for the short version. Please do the looong one too.
More CCR. I’m here for it.
This was CCR's first hit in 1968. It was a song by musician Dale Hawkins recorded late in the rockabilly era in 1957
I believe that this was originally a dance song, or at least had the beat and tempo for the stroll, which is a very chill dance. (There are videos.)
Sweet Hitchhiker..Hey Tonight.. Night time is the right time
Cover of the Dale Hawkins 1957 Original! There also is the stunning Woodstock Performance also worth checking out! This was also a Two Part single too. John's Feedback worked out fine for him!
Suzie Q is yet another tune that Fogerty kills on the Premonition Live performance. It's different but great in itself.
Spooky enuff i still remembered the sophisticated lyrics 😋😎❤️🇧🇻
This gets played at Texas crawfish boils.
I dig that Lexi gets de funky swamp thang dey got goin" on.
On a boat in some dirty water, lmao
Correct "Dirty waters and boats"... Dear Lex & Brad watch the movie APOCALYPSE NOW, this song is in it.
Lex is the woman! 😍
Forget the lyrics..hahah just get into the groove. I listen to this anywhere when I am in the mood for some CCR.
ramble tamble needs to be next.
Great song. Album version better though
The difference is not a mistake, it's a different singer, Tom Fogerty, John's brother.
♥️
🏄♂️🐦
Someday never comes
I like the original 1950s version of this by Dale Hawkins as much as I like this version.
I love CCR , have worn out sooooooooo many tapes ,and have most of the albums ,... but when they started going harder with their sound , I don't like must of it , first 3-4 albums were the best
Suggest: ZZ Top - Blue Jean Blues please.
Peace...
Shes right definitely a mudbuggin song.
It had an A side and a B side.
nurse rozetta frank zappa
Thought it was an accident come on Brad come on
Pick any bar in Vietnam 1969 and this song was playing on the juke box and a Vietnamese girl go-go dancing in a cage,,,, Good times....
nurse rozetta frank zappa
CCR never made a bad song. Each one is worthy and awesome.
All of them are bad. Soft shit.
They made a lot of covers, though :p
The band's only Top 40 hit not written by John Fogerty. "Susie Q" was a late rockabilly song which captured the spirit of Louisiana (Wikipedia)
Sorry Brad but you can absolutely play this at a crawfish boil. You can play Suzi Q anywhere anytime because Creedence is that awesome 👍.
Still has the bluesy, Southern rock, swamp rock feel to it. CCR . A little rockabilly. Lyrically the song might not fit the mood. But, musically? This is deep south sounding music for sure. Louisiana/Mississippi crawfish boil music. lol
Lex is asking about the steel guitar that is common in country and blues rock.
Once again Lex can come back to the 70's and hang out with us. Brad can stay home and watch Lawrence Welk with his parents.
You got it.
Hahaha!!!
😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
I think Lex nailed the vibe
Agree with others, always play the extended & original version. Great song in any evemt, next time do Ramble Tamble, a great, Deep Cut. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
I totally agree! Ramble Tamble is one of their best tunes that no one seems to notice, what a rocker!
@@scottus1955 Killer song, hard driving sound, the whole band is possessed!
@@scottus1955 Killer song, hard driving sound, the whole band is possessed!
An accident Brad....Really?? lol
Matt (below) is right about going for the full long version. This was CCR's first hit. As others have written, it was a cover of a 1956 song and was the only CCR hit not written by Fogarty. But it still had that "bayou" sound, right Lex? :)
The guitar part that Lex wonder if it was a steel guitar, I’m pretty sure is a Resonator Guitar (Dobro). I absolutely love a Dobro! It’s used a lot in the Blues.
2nd verse sung by Tom Fogerty, John brother. "Walk on the water" was actually written by Tom. Check it out, great song
As great as their original songs are, CCR are also one of the greatest cover bands ever! All their covers are absolute legends. Suzie Q, I Put A Spell On You, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Midnight Special, Cotton Fields, Good Golly Miss Molly, Night Time Is The Right Time. All fire! 🎸🔥
One of those songs that I have nothing good or bad to say about, but I am always in a better mood when it starts to play, no matter where I’m at. It’s simply a great song.
' Been a huge fan of CCR since my dad introduced them to me when i was about 11. When i was 13, my neighbors built an addition on their trailer, just for a pool table. "come over anytime, day or night. someone will hear the break, and come join you." couldnt sleep one Hot august night, and took them up on the offer, and sure enough someone joined me at 2am. they put a cassette tape in, cranked it up, and i met SUSIE Q. for the first time! what a GEM.
My daughter’s name is Soobin and I always sang this to her as “oh Soobie Soo” when I would hold her and put her to sleep as a baby. Now she’s almost 8 and loves this song.
Under the covers with a TUB of Vaseline? How long do you plan on being under there fantasizing about Susie Q? Hilarious Brad. Usually Lex is one giving me a chuckle. No wonder you guys are my favorite reactors.
What?! This is the only song I play at my annual Crawfish boil. It just goes on replay all night long!
Congratulations on becoming parents 👏
Green River is my favorite CCR song. Yall are Killin it 🤙🤙
They used this in a scene from the movie "Apocalypse Now". Gave it a whole different perspective.
I listened to this song quite a bit when I was in Vietnam(1970).
Thank you. ❤
Heard this since It was released, when I was very young.
It was not till I heard it in Apocalypse Now,that it had such a warm spot in my heart.
Damn, that was a hot scene.
I like Flash Cadillac's version of Suzie Q in Apocalypse Now. Da Hawk made a special version with the song and the movie clip, look for it on UA-cam: Suzie Q, by Flash Cadillac (NO NOISE music vid for iconic Apocalypse Now Playboy Playmates USO Tour)
WHAT??? I was just settling in just getting ready for a massive guitar solo and the music stops.
ARRRRRG. NEVER PLAY THE SHORT VERSION. You're getting robbed of music.
Each time I hear Suzie Q, I think of the Suzy belgian waffles.
No accident, fussy guitar a form of distortion use a lot back then.
A Classic Rock masterpiece, up there with the best.
this is certainly swamp music
Okay no one mentioned Susy Q's snack cakes 😁 I remember eating a Susy Q's as this song played on the radio... showing my age 😁
I remember em
Actually, this is a pretty good song to play on the juke box in a bar, puts everyone in a chill mood. (Although it did cause a riot in the movie Apocalypse Now.)
Alligator rock🐊♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
I don’t know. This would work with the crawfish if you play while everyone is sitting down to eat.
Try CCRs version of Little Richards Good Golly Miss Molly.
You need the longer versions...the solo's will kill ya.
“I hate the fucking Eagles, man.”
Gotta do Keep on Chooglin!
Crawfish Boil.....LOLOLOLOL
Got to go with Lex on this one.
I really love this song, I remember at home in my youth, we had this vinyl single. 🎶🎶👍
Brad, how can you not agree with Lex at 6:00 She gave a look that could melt your heart when she said "You don't think so "
It is criminal that this short version was ever cut (for greatest hits album) as the original and complete version is the only one to listen to. Nowhere on youtube is the long version (reaction) , it is a crying shame that this short version is everywhere. The extra 2 mins makes it one of the best produced performances of all time.
The song is more famous from the movie Apocalypse Now. On another note back in the late 80's; The Miss America USO Tour came overseas and Miss Texas did Suzie Q. My buddy Wags almost lost his s---- when she came out looking almost like a Cowboy Cheerleader with shooting fake six guns. The area we were in went nuts.
Funny Lex should think about the boat on dirty water. In the movie "Apocolypse Now" the river patrol boat ran across a USO show in the jungle with this song playing while the girls danced on stage.
Fogarty on guitar. Synthesizer for distortion. Sure enough the kind of music we played at family catfish cookouts.
Purt' neer trance music for the 60's.....wouldn't ya say??
Hey Guy's Checkout
"Old Man Down The Road"
CCR 🌞🐊😎🤠😁🌴☮️🇺🇲
CCR have always been swamp boogie music! No Doubt!
Brad harps too much about the lyrics. Lex gets it. Its all about the feel which is swamp bayou music.
