See that's what was so good about the 2000s and 2010s is we had great defenders and goal kickers but now in the 2020s the game has become extremely soft like players aren't allowed to duck there heads to get free kicks anymore, There are way to many low scoring games and teams are just bombing the ball down to contests instead of doing what teams like the 2012,13,14,15 and 16 Hawthorn Hawks did where they just chip the ball around to everybody until they get a mark and set shot at goal inside their 50 and also we don't get see players break records for goals kicked in a game and season anymore either so IMO the players today probly wouldn't of survived if they played in the 2000s and the early 2010s era.

still confused as to why Buckley moved on so many great players from this team when it appeared they had more to offer and the window was still open. he has payed dearly for it now as the pies are well off the pace.
tbh a lot of them did lose their pace like toovey and cloke, but in your defense heath shaw and dane beams got fucking shafted but management and I feel like it was buckley silencing decent and making an example of those two. Buckley being our coach is nothing more than a marketing stunt, no matter how badly he coaches collingwood they'll keep him on because the buckley project was a carefully crafted PR campaign.
My opinion for what its worth. Nothing to understand really. We've heard it over and over - Collingwood players play a role. The success of this team was not so much the talent of individual players but the ability of the team. Buckley didnt feel these players would be able to fill the roles required and in order to recruit those that would he needed to free up some "salary cap". Pretty much like any organisation or company going through a restructure. I agree with the thinking - it didnt work but that was because of some amazing team combinations of the likes of Geelong 2011 Sydney 2012 Hawthorn 2013 2014 2015 (and almost 2016) Tigers 2017. (Geelong's success was partly due to G. Ablett Jnr but there were many other amazing players as well.) 2016 Bulldogs was more of sheer determination rather than team role play Since then... Adelaide have also adopted team and role play but have been unlucky in their lack of success. Giants is more about talented players rather than role play (of in part politics of new teams getting good picks) Sydney, Eagles, Suns have all done the star player/s method which may have worked back in the day but the game is so different now. Sydney fans dont go all defensive. Just look at the win loss record when Buddy isnt playing. Bombers, Freo, Saints, Demons, Port etc..... really dont know what they are doing and dont really care right now. You have to give Bombers some space. Yes they made a bad decision on the drugs thing and really got made an example of (unfairly or not) and yes other teams got away with it What will we see moving forward? Pies may get lucky and make the 8 (might be another year or two and a new coach before we see anything further) Bombers will come back sooner rather than later. Eagles and Sydney may get lucky and win the flag this year depending on a few "key" players Tigers. Yep can definitely see a dynasty happening, or perhaps a "geelong/hawks style success" of if they dont win it, they are definitely there abouts. Hawks, great team and dont count them out. Giants, sorry Sydney fans but they are too disjointed and way too arrogant for their own sake. IF they start playing as a team again. And IF they go back to basics, they may see some success in the next few years. Saints, Suns, Blues, I have Sheedy's number if you need it, and they tell me Malthouse is looking for a gig. Crows, just dont have that "something" - deserves better. Cats, yep top eight but... 2018 four way fight - Hawks, Tigers, Sydney and Eagles if they can keep people healthy. From there it will be whos healthy and the bounce of the ball to determine.
just a side note Hawthorn was not only 2013 2014 2015 (and almost 2016) but you could see this coming from way back in 2008 which is a testimony to the Hawks Club overall. Coaches/ Board, players all deserved all they got and probably better and earlier. No I am neither a Hawks fan nor a Tigers supporter. lol definitely NOT Sydney (South Melbourne) either. 1. And if you really want to see some sparks fly on game day, make a new rule that gives the ball to the opponent of whomever last touched the ball over the sideline. If a player is tackled over the sideline, the tackler gets the free kick (no ball in) If both players and hanging onto the ball when it goes over (which will stop happening btw) then the team with the most dominant possession is the one who took it over - free to the other team. Then you will see desperation to keep the ball in no matter what. 2. Dont allow rushed behinds. If the defending team takes the ball through either goal or point then it is "free kick" into the field of play for the opponent but they cant shoot for goal. Sort of like a corner in soccer.
