@@marshall8782one of Vasco da Gama's rivals, they won the league's first division 4 times, third division and national cup once. As for world class players that started there or got their big break play for the "Tricolor", we have names like Thiago Silva, Marcelo and Richarlison.
As for German Cano, the striker mentioned before, he is from Argentina and was Vasco's main goal scorer for some time. His performances got him a move to Fluminense, where he is currently the top scorer of the league. His main attributes are positioning and finishing, if you have good playmakers that can deliver crosses or passes in the box, Cano will almost always capitalize.

    • @CoGoBa
      @CoGoBa Рік тому +14

The 50+1 rule makes it kind of complicated, but with german clubs you have to distinguish the association club and the club company. The original club association (i.e. the members) must have 50+1 votes on the board of the company. While 777 have a 78% or so stake with the revenue of the team, the association club still appoint 100% members on the board. So while 777 is a very big influence, Hertha members still control the club. And german fans kind of hate investors, so I can assure you that the members will make use of that control, if things go even more down hill at Hertha.

Just as a comparative: John Textor, the guy who owns Lyon and Crystal Palace, bought Botafogo basically at the same time as 777 bought Vasco. Only difference was Vasco was still at Serie B and Botafogo had just got promoted back to Serie A. On 777's first year at Vasco, they barely got promoted back to Serie A, and Botafogo, meanwhile, was growing under Textor's ownership and got a spot at this year's Sulamericana Cup (equivalent of the Europa League).
On the second year of ownership, though, Botafogo is the leader of the Serie A with a 10 point gap over second place, while Vasco won 2 matches in 14 and is sitting at 19th. Botafogo is the model of how a business club should be operated.
Oh, btw, you seen how 777 name dropped Flamengo on their plan and said they would be closing the gap? Flamengo thrashed Vasco 4-1 just about a month ago, and off the pitch, Flamengo is making headlines making record breaking deals in brazilian football, while Vasco is struggling to even find a coach. 😂

As a brazilian football fan born and raised in the city where Vasco da Gama is located and old enough to remember why my fellow brazilians on the coments call the club "Gigante", I can say that nothing really changed in the club after the 777 made the acquisition.
The squad consists of players that flopped hard or were overlooked on other brazilian teams, old players on their last big contract, untested youths and those that came from smaller clubs and leagues with nowhere near the same intensity. Hell their star player is Alex Teixeira, one of the first ones to hop on the China's Superleague train.
And to twist the knife further, all of Vasco's main rivals are doing far better... Flamengo and Fluminense are on the top part of the league and on the Round of 16 at Libertadores and Botafogo, that also operates as a SAF, is doing a Bayern by leading the league 10 points ahead of the second place.

    • @Felipelipe-py3yj
      @Felipelipe-py3yj Рік тому +19

that's exactly the problem: nothing changed.
when they bought the club and turned it into a SAF, they promised that they would not only close the financial gap between Vasco and its rivals, but also "restore" the club
they fumbled it further by keeping an awful coach for way too long, creating new debt that they refuse to pay, and not changing the SAF's board even though the fans have been asking for it for so long (to this day, the CEO is literally a club member/registered suppporter of flamengo, Vasco's biggest rival, the head coach doesn't do shit and the football director is absolutely awful and slow at his job)
don't get me started on that 5mi loan either, that makes it clear that there's a more-than-likely chance they're only using the club for moneywashing

The situation with 777 in Vasco da Gama is pretty strange. I'm not sure if they are going to pay those clubs for the 2023 transfers, but let's suppose they'll do: Vasco spent R$ 110 million (23 million dollars) in January, but with some questionable signings: R$ 20M in an unproven argentinian winger (Orellano), 32M in two shaky center backs (Capasso and Léo), 20M in a one-season wonder striker (Pedro Raul) and in a right-back that can't defend (Puma Rodriguez). The only good signings were Jair, Lucas Piton and maybe Leo Jardim.
But that's not the main problem: 777 has contractual obligations to provide some cash injections. In July 2022, before the deal was completed, Vasco took a R$ 70M loan with 777 (from R$ 700M they are supposed to invest) to pay debts and wages, because the situation was terrible. In September, the deal was finished and 777 made a new investment of R$ 120M. Everybody thought that this R$ 120M investment would be used to buy new players for 2023, but in fact, they only have paid for the transfers of Pedro Raul and Orellano (this week they also paid for Leo Jardim, in the last day before getting a transfer ban).
Now we are waiting for a new cash injection that is scheduled to happen in September (R$ 190M), but as Maqwell said in the video, teams are already going to FIFA to get their money. And it gets weirder because we don't know if they are using their cash injections or the club revenue itself to buy new players. Pedro Raul was already sold to Toluca for R$ 24M (that was a miracle), Eguinaldo for R$ 21M to Shakhtar Donetsk and, of course, Andrey Santos to Chelsea for R$ 68,4M.
So that's the thing: we have spent 110M in a shit squad, our stadium is falling to pieces (777 did absolutely nothing to change it since they arrived) and now we are looking desperately for new signings to avoid our fifth relegation in 15 years (Vasco had never been relegated before that). As I write, Vasco is in the last place of Brasileirão with only 9 points in 14 games, terrible start.

Multiclubs aren't necessarily the future, though some business models can work. Botafogo, another brazilian team from Rio de Janeiro, was bought after being promoted from the second division, in 2022 and, as of july 2023, appears to be a future national champion. Fluminense, even though the clubs has it's problems, are not part of a network, nor it os filthy rich like it's rival, Flamengo, who also is not a SAF or anything of the sort. There are possible futures without a "only clubs as business companies", but it does demand a lot of professionalism, planning and good managing.
Rich, however, will be dominanting the game, just as much as they always been: the european butt load of cash continues to take players from other continents, now the arab clubs are doing kind of the same thing...

Vasco's situation gets a little more sad once you look at certain things, they have just been passed in the league table by Coritiba, who just won their first 2 games in Série A and also the fact their rivals are doing so much better, specially Botafogo who operates in a similar business model under John Textor (Crystal Palace, Lyon). Also last year it wasn't so simple, they had a last game against Ituano where if they lost they wouldn't actually get promoted, there was a penalty, which Nenê (Vasco) scored, and a red card against Ituano, but even then Vasco were playing as if they were the team with 10 men, and eventually Andrey Santos (Chelsea) got a red card as well and made the game more nerve wrecking for Vasco fans. This is not surprising in the least. If businesses and single people are able to buy a club completely, you would expect single people or businesses to buy multiple clubs.
It is an interesting fact, that many people don't think about or ignore as it sounds strange, but unrestricted capitalism hurts the market economy.
If a market is unregulated a few rich entities, often those that have made their money elsewhere will start to control more and more.
To insure competition its important that the more you have, the higher the regulations are. We are talking about people you could tax 95% and that could still buy a yacht, a mansion and a private aircraft.
Btw I don't know how companies seem to always be able to just sponsor clubs like Hertha, it should be blocked under the German rules and should be blocked in any reasonable system.

777 had made similar offers to other 3 brazilian clubs: Botafogo, Cruzeiro and Bahia, and all of them refused. Months later, the clubs managed best deals with other buyers, and now they are in a better moment than Vasco.
Also, 777 partners had promissed impossible achievments to a club recently promoted from second division as Vasco. The biggest one was to make the club as strong as their city rivals Flamengo in less than a year, wich didnt happened, 777 forgot that Flamengo is the richiest club in South America and among the top 30 richiest clubs in the World. It takes time to do so

Thank you for this video. 777 also has a majority stake in the British Basketball League… as well as an ownership stake in the London Lions… who play in that very same league. No conflict of interest there, right?
Basketball is a minority sport here in the UK and unfortunately, the government would rather invest in Olympic medal winning sports (e.g. archery and shooting) instead of a sport that is played regularly by those in the biggest cities.
As a result of this lack of government assistance, the BBL has been… somewhat financially unviable for a number of years.
The first thing 777 did upon gaining power over the league was get rid of the salary cap. The financial situation from club to club varies wildly, so the salary cap was essentially the way of maintaining a level competitive playing field.
Without this salary cap, 777 have been able to pump millions of pounds (of loaned money) into their team, the London Lions. It is common knowledge that the salary of their star player, former NBA journeyman Sam Dekker, outstrips the salary of multiple entire teams. As you can imagine, that means the competition has essentially been bought for the London Lions.
The worst part for me personallly, is my club, the Plymouth City Patriots (along with the Manchester Giants) are now fully owned by 777, meaning that, most likely, if 777 were to go away… then so would my club.
The accounts for 777’s London Lions are a month late, which often means there’s something they want to hide.
It has also been recently rumoured that 777 have been unable to pay multiple players on the Manchester Giants, even with the large amounts of loaned cash.
I don’t know what will happen to the BBL in the near future, but it isn’t looking good.

We urged our Gigante to be bought because we got tired of Série B and wanted to bring back our glorious days. But we are still living the nightmare and with the risk of being relegated again. With Vasco I can't have a single day of peace.

Nowadays Flamengo and Palmeiras are the two clubs that are "sharing the throne" on south american football (see the last Libertadores, Brasileirão Serie A , Brazilian Cup and other titles, Flamengo and Palmeiras are on the recent winners how A LOT) and Vasco is a great club that have the potential of this too, but today they are the last of the league table and they are fighting an almost lost war agaisnt the relegation (In 1998 Vasco da Gama was the Libertadores Cup champion, they have won a lot of continental and national titles and played very well against Real Madrid at the 1998 Intercontinental Cup, also they had 0 relegations, today they have 4 relegations (maybe 5 at the end of the season) and they are not winning big titles since 2011...

Our derby rivals, Melbourne City FC, are owned by City FG and although they definitely one of the smaller clubs in the CFG, seeing their exponential growth in the league and also the investments made by CFG to their academy and facilities has been impressive, annoyingly CFG have really nailed it when it comes to giving Melb City everything it needs to be a dominating club in the A-League.

And now the club is without a manager for 17 DAYS in the middle of the championship with the club in the bottom of the league.

Seriously though, I hate how 777 is managing the club. In 7 months they've shown to the fans: lack of finantial transparency, Vasco has become a bad buyer, because they sign contracts to get players and don't pay the clubs, the marketing team is horrenduous, making several mistakes, and the former CEO pointed by 777, Luis Mello, did a terrible job while in charge. Vasco is having an all time worst campaing in the national league, and is now occupying the last position. Situation is critical and I honestly believe that the team will be relegated once again.
