I played the MW2 back in the day on a DX2 66Mhz machine that I had to upgrade from 4 to 8Mb RAM. (because of the game, Dark Forces). This was the first game I purchased for the PC. I still have the original DOS CD Rom laying around somewhere. And have over time, pulled it out to replay on portable Discman of the era. Forward over a decade, and I was chatting with the Community Manager of Hellgate London. We both agreed that MW2 was then best ever composed music for a video game. A sentiment that I would still champion today. All Systems Nominal.
Mechwarrior (the intro song) is an absolute masterpiece of its namesake. The feeling of being the unstoppable rolling thunder of a 100 tons of vengeance and retribution.
Mechwarrior 2 had an amazing vibe that hasn't been matched by any mech game since This music combined with the flat shaded graphics, often thick world fog and the eerie sound design really made you feel like you were utterly alone on a hostile alien world Your mech was your only friend and also the only thing keeping you alive, the planet and everyone on it wanted you dead I know a lot of it was unintentional and due to hardware limitations (thick fog to reduce render distance, the lack of allies and smaller numbers of enemies to spare the CPUs of the primitive computers it was designed to run on) but it still made for a phenomenal game
So true. The simple and barren landscapes added to the eeriness of the worlds you fought on. Though I never read any of the books, I did enjoy the text before the missions that added political context for the fight I was about to engage in. The soundtrack though, is what has stuck with me for 20ish years. One of my favorites of all time.
one can lean into limitations as part of the strengths of a design after all ;) reminds me how the first home world nailed its theme , its story , its gameplay as a cohesive whole ..compared to the borderline 'theme park' structured plothole trapped crap the last game wasted its excellent graphics on :/
So much this! MW5's music was just generic butt rock. This though? It's got EMOTION. It's telling a story. So good when it came out, and it still resonates.

You should really try the MW2 music medley mod for MW5. It’s incredible how this music and other OG Mechwarrior music adds such mood and depth to the game
For me, I've always associated this type of music with the clans, and the heavy metal with the inner sphere. The clans are refined, mysterious, and ominous. The inner sphere are rough and tumble, but they got spirit haha.
There's a lot of ways in! There's the Tabletop games, the video games, books, the old cartoon, a sites like this can let the music stand as art on its own merits, as well as being a great soundtrack to a future-war

MW2 was my introduction to Battletech. Still remember unwrapping it at Christmas and just staring at the cover in complete awe. I wore out the disc just playing the music.

That is to say, if you're willing to sacrifice your sleep time or leisure time you can do such great things such as raise a great family and still be a productive adult person.
What a brilliant project. My original MW2 disc has probably spent more time in an audio-only CD player than in my CD drive in any of my PCs. Love the score for this game so much. Absolutely wonderful remix album!
They should have released this game on Super Nintendo like the original Mech Warrior. I am still playing the SNes version to this day. Never have had the opportunity to play this game or any of the other ones. Nice sound track!

I loved this game so much when it came out. Timothy absolutely nailed the music for this wonderful universe. This game came out around the time Virtual World was a big thing in my circle and I have such fond memories of it.

I run campaigns and events of Classic Battletech for my local community at the friendly gaming store. We run massive, multiplayer battles, on the regular. Each and every single one, we do with this soundtrack playing at the table. Nothing puts you in the mood for gaming like hearing that all your systems are nominal, in this way.
My favorite clan mech is the Nova. I like to swap out the 12 medium lasers for 6 medium pulse lasers. I reduce some of the heat sinks and add in a targeting computer. They give me a -3 to hit roll every time and heat is not an issue.

Listening to this in the background while playing a few idle games and browsing the internets, all of a sudden Silent Thunder hits and I get the biggest grin. Nostalgia is beautiful sometimes.
This remix doesn't lose any of that feeling of liminal space the game and soundtrack had, which is surprising given just how much the soundscape has been filled out. I don't know if it's just me, but that disorienting, spaced-out buzz of alienation mixed with odd familiarity seemed essential in the portrayal of the clash between the Clans and Inner Sphere, so it's great that it wasn't lost in the mix. Great work by Mr Seals.
My introduction to Battletech came from the old dos game called Battletech: Crescent Hawks Revenge. I loved that game and wish I could still play it. It came in a box that had a mech identification guide which I was always reading through. And it also came with a poster of all the mechs in the game, which I hung on my wall. It got me into the table top. My first miniature was the Stalker. Over time I had like a hundred different miniatures of both clan and inner sphere units, including vehicles, infantry, battle armor, and aerospace. Oh, and I of course got Mechwarrior 2, 3 and 4 and Mechcommander and Mechcommander 2.
This is pretty much the music I listen to today - ambient techno & dark synth. I haven't heard this OST in at least 20 years, but it makes sense why I listen to this kind of music every day.

UA-cam just put this in my recommended, probably because I've listened to MW2's ost about 50 times. Good recommend, I'm 2 minutes in and already have goosebumps.
Mech 2 + Expansions were and still are the best Mechwarrior games. The PoL version from Pirahna is a great sim. But all that promise of the story never happened with the invasion of the clans. It was just like, ok the clans are here now you need to fight them. What I would give for another game that newly incorporated co-op missions. I could play with my old man again before he eventually dies.
The original soundtrack is still in my regular rotation after all these years. Well done on this one. While it's impossible to improve on an original which is already perfect, Timothy Seals has a good attempt and reaches 99.99% of the way there. One one hand, the original is still better. On the other hand, probably nobody will make a better Mech2 cover album than this. Maybe the only person who could is Mick Gordon (a spicy comment to be sure).

I really enjoyed this. From front to back. I do have one criticism though and it that certain sections of the song overstay their welcome. One “chorus” of the song will drag on for what seems like a very long time without any change or variety. This to me causes the original emotion of the song to become lost.
