Just want to say that I really like the "new tech" pop-ups in the corner. It's just a little thing but it really helps in keeping track of all the new stuff that's introduced in the run
Any% "pro-glitch-use" speedruns like this one are the kinds of runs that give me the most appreciation for what a legitimate, high-accuracy, tightly controlled skill speedrunning really is. It's one thing to play through a game quickly, but it's a whole other beast to memorize and master several kinds of nearly (or fully) frame-perfect maneuvers, how to use them properly, when and where to use them, and then to use them to navigate an entire game perfectly without messing up a single one, taking advantage of every possible opportunity to shave off a tenth or hundredth of a single second everywhere it's possible to do so according to an entire community's understanding of the game's programming. It's truly impressive.
Yes that is massively impressive, and I can appreciate and acknowledge the skill needed to do so, but that doesn't change the fact that you are using glitches, which depends on the game, the console, and the ability to react quick enough. I have played this game on Xbox 360, and encountered none of these glitches, so I don't know if they even exist on that console. Plus there is no way to switch controls to a hot bar, or anything like that, so if you want to do something you have to press the correct buttons, which is harder then just switching to the scroll wheel. And even then I don't know if I can call this a Speedrun, Because he just skips most things and ends up breaking the game. I noticed that when he was hit by the cop In an animation that would usually make you be pushed back and stall you for a second, that nothing of the sort happened. It could still be a Speedrun, I just don't know if I personally can call it that, it just seems too dependant on glitches, instead of going through the whole game, fights and all, and seeing how fast you can push yourself to complete it. This is my first time seeing a Speedrun with so many glitches that let you skip so much, so I'm a little confused, and, won't lie, disappointed. Especially because he is doing it while using desktop, and the moves he makes relied on him using the scroll wheels or a hot bar, or a quick key or something like that. I play games to enjoy not only the scenery they make, but also the world they build in it's entirety, story included. So to see most of it skipped or broken in such a way does kinda disappoint me, even if I do find it interesting that the game had that many glitches that conveniently aid the player.
@@dakotamorrison7752 If you don't like any% which is the entire point to allow glitches. Then, just watch a no glitch speedrun? any% isn't for everyone.
@@Faunarr I never said I didn't like it, I said I was confused and disappointed. I played and beat this game within an hour or two on my second or third try, so I was interested in how fast others beat the game so I searched up speed runs and found this one. I'm gonna be honest it's been a while since I made that comment so I can't remember everything that day, but if I do remember right, when I searched for speed runs of the game, most of them just seemed like regular old gameplay to me. Especially because they didn't seem to do much better than I did on my second or third play through. And so when they did most of the speed run using glitches that took them outside the map border to avoid basically everything, it kinda disappointed me, but only slightly. Hey tomato! The trippy visuals caused by going out of bounds is a common thing in a lot of 3D engines and is usually referred to as the "hall of mirrors" effect
As I'm an old school gamer and software developer, I have never heard that term for the left over frame buffer remains. I've found an article calling it "Hall of mirrors effect" from 2006. Though what was mentioned there is not really correct. The article said that the game tries to render an image of something that is technically nothing. In reality to save fill rate on the GPU a lot of the older engines do not clear the frame buffer at all at the start of a new frame since "usually" everything is overwritten anyways with the next frame. So only the depth buffer is cleared. However if the rendered geometry has a "hole", so nothing would be rendered there, you simply see the old content of the framebuffer. Of course when you pan around, the location of that hole changes and that's why most of the time you see a copy of the geometry next to the hole since that geometry was drawn there the last frame(s). This effect often gets much more erratic when double buffering is used. Since there are essentially two framebuffers that are used in an alternating fashion, one buffer essentially contains the current displayed image and the other one is used to draw the next image. When rendering into the off-screen buffer has finished, the buffers are swapped. That way we can avoid screen tearing as we only present the monitor a complete rendered image. Though since we constantly flipping between those two buffers, if there's an area that was not overwritten in both buffers, you get a quick flicker between the contents of two frames, even when you do not move your camera. In addition to that, post processing effects which are usually applied to the whole frame buffer can cause those overbright glowing areas. A lot newer engines usually clear the framebuffer before they start rendering. Though this can still be disabled in most engines. On modern hardware the fill rate isn't that important anymore. Mobile devices are still the low end of the spectrum. Though even in this sector the hardware gets faster and faster.

Such a great video bro! Mirror's Edge was the first game that i tried to complete as fast as possible. Seeing this after playing this game ages ago without knowing that there was a speedrunning community for this game is just a wonderful surprise. The amount of ingenuity and tactics are astounding and just a pleasure to watch.
@calypso The fascination with pushing the frontier of computer graphics is the reason we have video games at all. The industry would not have come up with this idea were it not for programmers being enthusiastic about graphics in the later half of the 20th century. Graphics were the initial driving force for video games. Everything else came later. All of the artsy hoo-haw about style, all of the "deep emotional narratives," were an addendum to the urge of programmers to simulate reality with limited tools. So yes, people get excited at the idea of pushing graphical technology a step further. And they should.
@calypso It's fine that games are made that aren't graphically cutting-edge. What I'm saying is that all video games exist thanks to the few that *do* push boundaries in graphics and/or simulation. Graphically advanced games are like pioneers, opening up the way for later games to exist that just want to tell a story or do some other thing without worrying about the graphics. We look forward to ever better graphics because we're excited about what new kinds of experiences can be created once our current limitations are overcome.

Such a great video bro!
Mirror's Edge was the first game that i tried to complete as fast as possible. That time lays 11 years in the past but speed running in general is something that i am enjoying alot. The last Mirror's Edge run i have seen was the "glitchless" run from SGDQ2017. So glad to see mechanics like the hint climbs. It just boggles my mind that i've never tried this back then haha
I can also join the other comments about the "new tech" pop-up. Such a great idea! There was alot of explanations but that's really helpful for everyone that has never played or seen a Mirror's Edge run. Thanks to you and Voetim :)
Stay safe and home homies!
I know you're a good speedrunner but have you considered a career as a poet?
If you like poetic explanations, boy have I got the vid for you:

(It's for minecraft)
Woah. The first speedrun video I haven't skipped through ironically. Honestly great work, every techincality is explained in great detail, the commentary is interesting and funny, and my oh my how did you manage to explain the storyline so well too?! I believe even the people who never heard of Mirrors Edge can follow through it and enjoy the explanation of speedrun! Thumbs up👍 Wish more speedruns be more like this one.
0:04 hey that’s what my mom calls me!
F
hey man, just want to say I've never played the game but have watched a playthrough and your commentary was awesome I know a lot of work must have gone into fitting so much info into the video and you did a brilliant job of it with the addition of great humour
Warner Brothers be like “I smell someone using 14 frames of one of our movies, copystrike time 😎”
"Hello, my name is TomatoAnus."
Oh. This is going to be good.
Ch.8: The Time Tomato Makes The Audience Irate
Tomatoanus: "Hope you're ok, the world is a bit crazy at the moment" Me: "Checks out".
Also me, looks at video publication date, realizes it's two years old, and that the world is even crazier than back then.
Yeah, there's that.
Stop asking questions about the run, he's sure that it's fine and *you don't need to worry about it*
Your content is so good Mr. Anus, and your message about nothing being final is always amazing and welcomed. There have been some pretty shit days, but if I find a new Mr. Anus video it really helps get me out of a bad mindset :) love you man, can't wait until you hit 1m+ subs, you really deserve it!
I played this daily during early summer of 2009, great and satisfying game. Kind of sad it didn't result in a lot more movement based games, I really thought it would bring about a revolution in 3D gaming, but alas - The money was all in mobile gaming 😂
The video is great! the little jokes and honesty and even care about the viewers understanding is super dope.
Im bout to eat a muffin, thank you for the entertainment.
I’m going to eat your muffin
@@fourskinman2463 The deed is done Foreskin Man! You shall not touch my sacred muffin.
Hey, u have a muffin too, I'm bout to have consequence free love making with it. With my personal meat stick, I will fully penetrate the muffin. If muffins could groan with pleasure in the same manner an intellectually disabled dementia patient groans after solving an easy math equation, I'm sure it would groan with the same satisfied blank stare grin.
I love your style of commentating! Great video and keep it up man! I got exposed to covid the other day so now I've got 2 weeks to binge stuff, and your channel is top of the list right now
"I hope you have an above average day"
Really loved that one
Really great video. Loved the rhymes towards the end. It's clear you put a lot of effort in here.
15:05 The moment when Anus became the Narrator in The Stanley Parable.
Damn I've never seen such a good and sarcastic speedrun commentary, gave me good laughs through the view, lovely.
26:39 Imagine an armless muppet Faith no-hand Naruto running like a god around the city
Thanks. This (years ago) is the first speedrun i ever saw before i knew it was a thing with a giant community with so many games.
I love this game it's so nostalgic :(
I don't usually have a problem watching other people's game capture, but this Mirror's Edge gameplay did me in.
Speedrunning my favorite game? Oooooooowweeeeeeeee
its all been leading up to this
tomatoanus hell yeah
Seeing this after playing this game ages ago without knowing that there was a speedrunning community for this game is just a wonderful surprise. The amount of ingenuity and tactics are astounding and just a pleasure to watch.
I feel like graphics really haven't improved much since 2009.
Yonder Bagel this game was really clever with the graphics. They’ve certainly gotten better, but this still looks great.
Games with a distinct art style age better though.
Mirrors edge is by far my favourite game.....even to this day it still kicks ass
Also this speed run is ridiculous....so much respect for the people who do this
Voetiem: Speedruns mirror's edge
Me: Speedruns microwaved frozen food
There's a glitch where if you plug it into a dryer plug it will go 20% faster. However it also has a 90% chance of exploding and ending the run so it's a risky strat
*struggles to cook minute rice in a minute*
Fantastic commentary!!!!
"slides through a crawl way and spooks a rat" lmao
... the absolutely flat delivery of the dialogue for chapter 8.. just made my freaking day. And the reference to it in chapter nine was the cherry on top.
Thank you for that.
As someone who has played through mirror's edge once, I found this very entertaining
Tomatoanus: This is called a Wallboost
Me who has never played a Mirrors Edge game before: Of course a classic maneuver
Cant wait for you to talk about a DOOM Eternal Speedrun. I have accidentally found stuff in that game, so people working for it are gonna be nuts.
This video is so good! I actually bought and played the game for the first time today and am looking into running it, the only thing keeping me away right now is that I find the combat very clunky and frustrating
