Quick tip: @7:39 you can use a little trick to shows "1" for "TRUE" and "0" for "FALSE." Its done by adding two consecutive minus signs outside the parenthesis:
=FILTER(TSales, --(TSales[Date]>=E2) * --(TSales[Date]=E2) and press F9, it will show 1's and 0's instead of True and False.

@@largpack Imagine that you have hundreds of cells to scan through, TRUE/FALSE take up 4 characters each, whereas 0/1 are single characters. The only benefit is ease of viewing.

Great video Leila! 👏With the interactive chart, I am running in to this problem: the chart area is only grabbing the number of rows and columns for the first department I had selected when I inserted the chart. Example, if finance was active with 4 rows when I insert the chart, when I select another department say marketing with 7 rows, I am only getting 4 rows still for the chart area. How can I fix this without having to manually adjust the chart area each time? Thanks

Thank Leila, nice to see the new FILTER function in action. But do not forget the old slicers in a table: They have the same effect and are a lot easier. To harvast the selected value of the slicer and put this in a dynamic title is however another story, that is not so easy...

Appreciate the video! I'm glad to know I can make a chart off dynamic ranges without the fixed range to worry about. One thing I kept hearing you say that I'm not sure is true is that you have to make you array source a table.. you can filter out blanks easily with your FILTER function by just declaring a column that should never be null is not = ""
For some reason I am such an anti-table person. I feel like it restricts me and I cannot stand the cell references when making formulas. It makes me feel I'm not in control or can validate what I'm doing. Although, I cant make a great defense against NOT using tables, maybe I'm just spiteful that excel still cannot match Sheet's dynamic capabilities. This is a good step forward... especially now I'm forced to use MS environment at my new job.

Unfortunately, it does not work in my case because I created my dataset from different tables. So, although I named a range, if I go to ws2!A1 = ws1!myRange, Excel says it will convert the spilled formula to values. After that, the table becomes static. Actually, I think tables cannot be dynamic, can they?
I was so hopeful when I saw the title of the video 😭! Very good video though!

What about if you are using formulas to insert the data? I have 100 rows of data currently. all with formula in them. Lets say only 50 are currently displaying anything and the rest are all blank. How do I create a graph that will only show the 50 populated values? Then if the data updates and I end up with 60 rows, I want the table to obviously show those additional 10 rows. and the same if the number of rows displaying values goes down.
If it helps, in my example there will be no random blank rows within my data set, the first row will always have data and all data will be presented from row 1 down. All blank rows are at the end of my dataset.

So I'm a bit frustrated that this is the first time that I have tried to replicate something you've done and it's not working. I am referencing a spilled formula, but it's transposed, and being displayed across a row rather than a column. Also, the Spill formula references a range of cells NOT in a table, but it's set up to still add additional values over time. I have the spill range selected when creating a chart, and it works, but when I test the dynamic adding/removing of values on the chart's access, it doesn't update even though the spill formula shows the changed range. Any ideas why? I am using a chart that combines vertical bars & lines. Any clue what it is that I am doing that's causing the issue? Is it the transposed range reference? Is it the lack of a table? Is it the Chart combo type? FYI, I have the Office 365 Extended license.

Remember: Nothing is stopping you from using a filter function as a named range -- You can also use external connections within a named range!
Mix in the FILTER(FILTER,{1,0,1,0,1,0-esque array} trick and now you can pick and choose data columns from external sources; have fun mixing external data sources and tons of criteria filters that help create super dynamic charts 🥳

Can someone help me out because I don't even know if this would be grouping or subtotals or something different. Each transaction I'm tracking can be made up from either 1 to 4 detail rows. This makes creating a chart a little difficult but using pivot tables has made it a bit easier. But still I have 1 to 4 detail rows I want to create on transaction row and then chart from there. If someone knows what that might be called that would be a help.

Hi there, if I have a waterfall chart and a dynamic array, is it possible to make the graph recognize the totals automatically? Because evertrime the range changes, it messes up which cells the graph thinks is the total

When I click to add the chart it doesn't automatically adjust to all of the spill data from my filter function, it is only showing the data within the cells that populated based on my first drop down selection. So for example if my first drop down selection had 3 rows of data and then I select a different drop down option that contains 6 rows of data, the chart will only populate 3 rows. Any suggestions as to what the issue is?

When I add new data (such as a new product) to the table, it shows up in my summary table, but my chart is not automatically updated.

I love this feature but I’ve noticed when I create a chart with the dynamic info and link my chart into a PowerPoint presentation, the PowerPoint presentation still shows the empty space, and not the clean look as seen in excel. I’m trying to create a file with multiple reports needed for a presentation and our team will use the same presentation, we will only make the changes in the excel file by selecting from our drop downs, but it’s not working.

Can't wait for this feature to arrive. I tried it just now and while the graph "sees" the full range due to the #, it doesn't update the range when the #-range gets smaller or bigger.

IF THIS IS NOT WORKING FOR YOU HERE IS WHAT I HAVE FOUND. If the spill formula at any point generates an error (#CALC) it seems to throw off the dynamic chart. You can use an "IFERROR" and force at least one row of data. Also, if the selection of the X axis is modified as the result of even a simple VBA code running it will cause the chart to not autosize 'down' on the x axis until the number of x axis values matches or exceeds the currently displayed chart. I copied the example from the video and added a macro with this single line of code: Range("F2").Value = "Procurement" and that messed up the dynamic chart working until I selected Finance again. A 'fix' is if you turn 'calculations options' to Manual, either with the ribbon or in the VBA code and then execute the previous VBA command and then using the ribbon or f9 key do a manual calculation it seems to 'work'. I tried VBA code that set calculation back to automatic as well as the 'calculate' function but neither worked. Using the ribbon to change back to 'Automatic' also didn't work.

I resolved it by splitting each column into its own series filter, and then naming the cell with the filter in and making the reference spill with #. Then edited the graph to refer to each of these spilled references, and now it works flawlessly. It's basically in this video of Leila's here: ua-cam.com/video/1t4NVRlH_d4/v-deo.html. Will always work then regardless of CALC errors or not.
