I love this! Nas and Nujabes together is like a match made in heaven. This song is beautiful. It’s sad that they never collaborated together but at least remixes are good.
One of the greatest remixes of all times. I always appreciate remixes that recontextualise the original. Nas' words carry a different weight because of Nujabes' incredible interpretation of Eric Gale's Lookin' Good. Keep it dusty!
Listening to Nujabes songs in speakers and then in headphones, is very different sometimes, I can notice sounds in headphones that I didn't notice before in speakers, this remix is a perfect example.
Time to set everyone straight. This is in fact an early Nujabes Remix, released in 2001 on vinyl from the label Hyde Out Records, which released much of his work. Secondly this is completely Nujabes sampling style, Jazzy as can be, and in no way pop. It's a remix of Nas's One Love... if Nas is pop, please define a real hip hop artist? Hint: Lil Wayne is not an answer. Third, that Louis Logic song, which uses the same sample, was made in 2004 apparently, a bit after Nujabes sampled it.
Dont forget to mention that Nujabes owned a record shop in Shibuya, Japan at the time of creating this record. He had pressed the remix onto vinyl and put it into the NAS section in his store, so shoppers would pick up this record by a guy name Nujabes and be enthralled by the music, not knowing the guy who made it is the same guy who rung them out and owns the shop! Rest in Peace, Jun Seba. Your music and your spirit will live on forever brother.
I wish there happened more collabos between Nujabes and popular rappers from the US, not just mashups on YT. It already speaks volumes that this RMX wasn't licensed as official RMX due to label issues back then. They should rerelease it with an official license.
My favorite rapper: NAS
MY favorite producer: Nujabes
