Its the internationally recognized incident that make the govt shift their eyes on to this niche genre. Similar to how Sulli anti bully law made, the govt choose to impose new rule to prevent huge problem like that occur again in the future. Those fandom war managed to change the image of this genre from promising to problematic. XZ-YB Ao3 incident and ZZH WoH incident is turning point i guess. Imagine the rage when your beloved platform got banned due to some artist controversies. As international fans i read that china fandom culture is as toxic as south korea and this maybe also shift the pov of management and the actors themselves. So cant rly blame them.

I am in my mid 50s. I pray this (and others shelved) be released before the Higher Power calls for me. The money and work invested in this great series makes me feel sorry for the producers and production staff
I started reading the book because of the drama being postponed. I’m still reading. (And reading. And reading. It’s a loooooong book!) It really is a shame that this show seems to be under lock and key for good, because the two leads are JUST SO PERFECT for their roles - the stills I’ve seen indicate they were cast straight from the descriptions in the book. I really hope they are able to cut some sort of deal to air it internationally - the Seven Seas translation has made it popular enough that an international release would be warranted.

Chen Feiyu looks a bit delectable. I think I have seen him in something Viki? I love the sound of this so I hope it comes out. I was so happy and excited when I stumbled across Word Of Honour and The Untamed back in 2021. I thought I had hit a gold mine and then China cracked down on "sissy men" and ZZH was targeted and it all crumbled. Those two dramas were fantastic. The beauty of the Gong Jun and Xiao Zhan knocked my socks off and BL as well?! Wow. The costumes, the creativity and myths, the fighting all of it was just a feast. So I found Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's books and read them. Genius. I think The Untamed may have been a freak as I cannot get over how perfectly the series nailed the characters and the feeling of the books. I have nearly finished Heaven Official's Blessing series. I would kill for a live action series for that but how? Can people tell me where the animated series are for The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation and Heaven Official's Blessing can be seen? The whole streaming app thing has gotten out of control. I also need subtitles (damn my no Mandarin-ness lol) Thank you for the updates.
Well..a live action series for Heavens Official Blessings called Eternal Faith has already been filmed in China and probably all ready to air....but just like immortality and the and the rest of the 0:02 other unaired BL adaptations...all are in the banned dungeon at the moment😅.....I'm here hoping for oneday all these stupid censors lift so I can watch these dramas. For watching the anime adaptations of MDZS...its all on WeTV...You'll probably need to subscribe to have a better viewing experience without the annoying ads.... HOB anime.....S1 is on Netfix and the S2 on Chroncroll....not sure if they are on Viki...these are the official sites I guess.
As far as i know,there are curently only 2 seasons out for Heaven Official's Blessing,you can find both on youtube. Bonus: season 2 is dubed in english,and Hua Cheng's voice will literally melt your panties 😍 (As much as i prefer everything in original language with subtitles,Hua Cheng's dubbed voice is freaking amazing)
I’m living in hope this will at some point this will air ,however , I’m not sure it will ever happen as I doubt there is any way to tell this story without it being very obviously a love story .It difficult to tell the story and tone down or omit the relationship between the 2 characters and still have the same story making it unlikely to pass censorship. With The Untamed and Word of Honour it was easy for the screen writers to gloss over the relationships and still have a cohesive plot with Immortality the actual love story is too relevant to the plot for this to happen.
It appears that the Chinese Communist government thinks things will disappear if they are prohibited, highly censored or totally ignored. Maybe they will. Look how well the country is doing under their control (said facetiously).
Reading the novel really is a good option whike waiting for the airing. Ive read the novel and its great, became one of my favourite danmei novels. If you dont like bl dont worry i sometimes forgot the novel was bl because of the great plot and other characters. It just is a must read. It also has a manhua but the chapters are still very less but its also worth trying. Ive also read many other danmeis like heaven officials blessing. This novel too has an upcomming live action called eternal faith but just like immortality weve been waiting forever to air due the same reason *censorship*. But again ive also read the untamed novel (the grandmaster if demonic cultivation) and if im being honest the novel got wayy more details than in the live action.
i'm wondering how chinese ban gay material too. for last several years all BL/GL manhua all got cut down or force to end but recently I saw many BL/GL mahua in bili manga available to read and even no censorship. maybe we have some hope for this drama to air.

My guess is because the main market is China. The company won't get as much money if they release it internationally AND they are going to get bad reputation with the government for trying to bend the rules (because the censored show will inevitably leak into Chinese web). So, in short, a lot of financial and reputational risks, not worth it.

It's a bit hard to explain but donghua (animation) is considered fictional/cartoons and doesn't fall under a hard scutiny compared to 'real life' shows. A tiny little scandal by one of the actors in a major production might cause the entire show to be taken down, and the actors themselves get literally wiped out from the internet. When you run a search on their name it will actually come back with zero results. Because of this they are extremely strict about what is broadcasted. Male actors are also not allowed to be 'too girly' or 'wear heavy makeup' in like interviews or variety shows because it will 'corrupt' the young people watching. Even cleavages were banned at one point and production companies had to do post-editing to cover the boobie valley line or risk getting their show removed lol. They treat actors as like Role Models and so they have to uphold the morals and shits lol. Basically, if our kids watch gay what if they turn gay oh noooozzzz

I honestly watched the untamed and fell in love with Chinese dramas of ancient times. Another thing is maybe I was dumb but I never knew it was a BL story I thought it was a friendship drama lol they can do the same for immortality!!
If that show was released eventually, it is the other shows following its steps that got ousted for all kinds of reasons and that seems to have made the censorship board even more determined to block the. release of all BL dramas. Not discerning on which should be exempt because Immortality is based on a famous novel that is not banned! Why ban the drama then? I guess to escape from being blocked it has to be as close to the book version as possible and avoid even innocent touching scenes as far as possible!!! What a splash of cold water on us!

Very disappointing that the Chinese govt is so OTT about BL dramas because creative art should alway have freedom of expression as long as it doesn't cause actual harm to people physically/mentally. The fans on the other hand are outrageously out of order in their toxic support. Their behavior in aggressively wanting to destroy an actor/actress career is psychotic causing extensive damage to one's reputation. Such behaviour should be penalised by the Chinese entertainment industry.
I just wish these fans don’t turn everything toxic. It’s their fault that the actors end up suffering so much. It’s already a stretch for the Chinese govt bcoz BL is not legal in China yet. I'm really confused. Do the writers, directors, producers, etc., go through completing an entire bl series/movie only to hope on a wing and a prayer that it airs? Do the Chinese government not read the script before approving the series to start filming? I mean, how does this work? I know about the we whole Chinese censorship thing, but I can't see these big production series start filming through completion, not knowing if it will ever air. It's a waste of time and money.
The untamed was a success, i think they started producing other BL series before Xiao Zhan's controversy. Word of Honor released, on the way to become another successful series, got shut down because Zhan ZheHan's controversy. At that point, i think they already finished filming the planned next BL series (like immortality). And then government started to get stricter with the laws and rules about BL series. I think the government screening the series after filming. Can't find a reason to not approve it because well, basically the story is about brotherhood. (Yeah, brothers... Like Lao Wen and A Xu from Word of Honor... 😂) So they just have to find another way to shut those BL series waves...
Well not exactly, but partially Yes. The screenplays are approved prior filming, but after filming you have to submit the completed serie to obtain the “aring licence”. This is mandatory for all the C-dramas BL or not. Since cenzorship on BL got stricker due the Untamed and Word of Honor, Immortality was submitted for the licence I think 3 times. 2 times it got returned with requirements for additional cuts, 3rd time they were basically told to reshoot the whole drama replacing one of the male lead with female 😕 So they have not tried since. Prior the Untamed not many BL drama were shot and those that were released didn’t gain huge popularity neither So the cenzors were confident, that in conservative China this could not happen. The Untamed popularity came as a huge shock 🤣 And even more he massive popularity it gained internationally. On IMDB its the highest scoring chinese production ever 😂 So they the government already held grudge over the fact that their most acclaimed production internationally is gay.

Luo Yunxi is a good actor but seem like something went wrong with his drama. For example, some FL in his previous drama doesn't match or acting good enough. or some of his good drama didn't air much on other platform. I wish there are more of his drama on Netflix since he deserve to be seen more.

@calyco2381 Fans toxic behavior is the main reason for my comment in the first place because some fans would rather something not airing because they don't like it( as some wishes that faith for Immortality), or causes havoc over something which affiliate with their bias because they simple don't like it( the AO3 issue)....ofcourse when these fans actions catches the attention of the government, reprecautions would be taken given they type of gov China has....plus its already something the gov has distaste for which makes it worse...ofcourse I would also be pissed if idiot fans who can't differentiate a fictional content from real life causes my safe heaven to be blocked....all can be true at the same time....but to down right banned these dramas I don't agree, as it isn't the dramas fault..its crazy fans....the fact is even with these bans, these fans still exist and still reck havoc till this day....and the gov just used all this as excuse because the fact that these dramas got so popular...rubbed them the wrong way....if they wanted to seem fair about cracking down, then all other dramas that had controversial actors and scandals....would be banned also, yet they arnt. The thing is I doubt the actors would want their hard work going up in flames if they could do something about it. In a better environment, ofcourse they'd want the drama to air. They didn't film it to be in a dungeon....the drama, the production, actors ain't the issue....its crazy fans, antis and what they would do to get their way....and gov taken advantage of the situation.

I started reading the book because of the drama being postponed. I’m still reading. (And reading. And reading. It’s a loooooong book!) It really is a shame that this show seems to be under lock and key for good, because the two leads are JUST SO PERFECT for their roles - the stills I’ve seen indicate they were cast straight from the descriptions in the book. I really hope they are able to cut some sort of deal to air it internationally - the Seven Seas translation has made it popular enough that an international release would be warranted.

Chen Feiyu looks a bit delectable. I think I have seen him in something Viki? I love the sound of this so I hope it comes out. I was so happy and excited when I stumbled across Word Of Honour and The Untamed back in 2021. I thought I had hit a gold mine and then China cracked down on "sissy men" and ZZH was targeted and it all crumbled. Those two dramas were fantastic. The beauty of the Gong Jun and Xiao Zhan knocked my socks off and BL as well?! Wow. The costumes, the creativity and myths, the fighting all of it was just a feast. So I found Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's books and read them. Genius. I think The Untamed may have been a freak as I cannot get over how perfectly the series nailed the characters and the feeling of the books. I have nearly finished Heaven Official's Blessing series. I would kill for a live action series for that but how?

Well..a live action series for Heavens Official Blessings called Eternal Faith has already been filmed in China and probably all ready to air....but just like immortality and the and the rest of the 0:02 other unaired BL adaptations...all are in the banned dungeon at the moment😅.....I'm here hoping for oneday all these stupid censors lift so I can watch these dramas.

I’m living in hope this will at some point this will air ,however , I’m not sure it will ever happen as I doubt there is any way to tell this story without it being very obviously a love story .It difficult to tell the story and tone down or omit the relationship between the 2 characters and still have the same story making it unlikely to pass censorship. With The Untamed and Word of Honour it was easy for the screen writers to gloss over the relationships and still have a cohesive plot with Immortality the actual love story is too relevant to the plot for this to happen.
It appears that the Chinese Communist government thinks things will disappear if they are prohibited, highly censored or totally ignored. Maybe they will. Look how well the country is doing under their control (said facetiously).

Reading the novel really is a good option whike waiting for the airing. Ive read the novel and its great, became one of my favourite danmei novels. If you dont like bl dont worry i sometimes forgot the novel was bl because of the great plot and other characters. It just is a must read. It also has a manhua but the chapters are still very less but its also worth trying. Ive also read many other danmeis like heaven officials blessing. This novel too has an upcomming live action called eternal faith but just like immortality weve been waiting forever to air due the same reason *censorship*. But again ive also read the untamed novel (the grandmaster if demonic cultivation) and if im being honest the novel got wayy more details than in the live action.
I hope they just air internationally. Too bad I was really looking forward to seeing it.

My guess is because the main market is China. The company won't get as much money if they release it internationally AND they are going to get bad reputation with the government for trying to bend the rules (because the censored show will inevitably leak into Chinese web). So, in short, a lot of financial and reputational risks, not worth it.

It's a bit hard to explain but donghua (animation) is considered fictional/cartoons and doesn't fall under a hard scutiny compared to 'real life' shows. A tiny little scandal by one of the actors in a major production might cause the entire show to be taken down, and the actors themselves get literally wiped out from the internet. When you run a search on their name it will actually come back with zero results. Because of this they are extremely strict about what is broadcasted. Male actors are also not allowed to be 'too girly' or 'wear heavy makeup' in like interviews or variety shows because it will 'corrupt' the young people watching. Even cleavages were banned at one point and production companies had to do post-editing to cover the boobie valley line or risk getting their show removed lol. They treat actors as like Role Models and so they have to uphold the morals and shits lol. Basically, if our kids watch gay what if they turn gay oh noooozzzz

I honestly watched the untamed and fell in love with Chinese dramas of ancient times. Another thing is maybe I was dumb but I never knew it was a BL story I thought it was a friendship drama lol they can do the same for immortality!!
If that show was released eventually, it is the other shows following its steps that got ousted for all kinds of reasons and that seems to have made the censorship board even more determined to block the. release of all BL dramas. Not discerning on which should be exempt because Immortality is based on a famous novel that is not banned! Why ban the drama then? I guess to escape from being blocked it has to be as close to the book version as possible and avoid even innocent touching scenes as far as possible!!! What a splash of cold water on us!

Very disappointing that the Chinese govt is so OTT about BL dramas because creative art should alway have freedom of expression as long as it doesn't cause actual harm to people physically/mentally. The fans on the other hand are outrageously out of order in their toxic support. Their behavior in aggressively wanting to destroy an actor/actress career is psychotic causing extensive damage to one's reputation. Such behaviour should be penalised by the Chinese entertainment industry.
I just wish these fans don’t turn everything toxic. It’s their fault that the actors end up suffering so much. It’s already a stretch for the Chinese govt bcoz BL is not legal in China yet. With all this out of the box imagination and virtual rioting, these fans only end up harming their own idol and the other actors too, in the process. People need to know where to draw the lines and seriously consider getting a life outside of all this.

I'm really confused. Do the writers, directors, producers, etc., go through completing an entire bl series/movie only to hope on a wing and a prayer that it airs? Do the Chinese government not read the script before approving the series to start filming? I mean, how does this work? I know about the we whole Chinese censorship thing, but I can't see these big production series start filming through completion, not knowing if it will ever air. It's a waste of time and money.
The untamed was a success, i think they started producing other BL series before Xiao Zhan's controversy.
Word of Honor released, on the way to become another successful series, got shut down because Zhan ZheHan's controversy.
At that point, i think they already finished filming the planned next BL series (like immortality). And then government started to get stricter with the laws and rules about BL series.
I think the government screening the series after filming. Can't find a reason to not approve it because well, basically the story is about brotherhood. (Yeah, brothers... Like Lao Wen and A Xu from Word of Honor... 😂) So they just have to find another way to shut those BL series waves...
Well not exactly, but partially Yes. The screenplays are approved prior filming, but after filming you have to submit the completed serie to obtain the “aring licence”. This is mandatory for all the C-dramas BL or not. Since cenzorship on BL got stricker due the Untamed and Word of Honor, Immortality was submitted for the licence I think 3 times. 2 times it got returned with requirements for additional cuts, 3rd time they were basically told to reshoot the whole drama replacing one of the male lead with female 😕 So they have not tried since. Prior the Untamed not many BL drama were shot and those that were released didn’t gain huge popularity neither So the cenzors were confident, that in conservative China this could not happen. The Untamed popularity came as a huge shock 🤣 And even more he massive popularity it gained internationally. On IMDB its the highest scoring chinese production ever 😂 So they the government already held grudge over the fact that their most acclaimed production internationally is gay.

Luo Yunxi is a good actor but seem like something went wrong with his drama. For example, some FL in his previous drama doesn't match or acting good enough. or some of his good drama didn't air much on other platform. I wish there are more of his drama on Netflix since he deserve to be seen more.
