The bass lines are so simple but they bring the whole song together. Love this tune.
Bass Synthesizer? No, this is Peter Hook on bass. It's just some chorus added, a signature sound of New Order while he was a member.
its an insult to the whole moder music to say that Hooky's bass comes from a synth
Yeah I plugged in my bass to my guitar amp, added chorus, and got the same sound
I believe he used a Clone Theory pedal specifically, at least in his older tracks. It's especially noticable in Joy Division's "Twenty Four Hours"

this year I started saving to get a bass... I don't even have a 1/6 but I hope in a couple years I'll be able to buy myself one... Untill that I love watching this videos :)
How expensive is the bass you want to get?
Shop around for a second hand one. Lots of people buy them, then think it's too hard to learn, so they end up selling them cheap, and they are often barely used.
But, I definitely recommend shopping around for decent brands (Fender Squire, Yamaha, Ibanez etc). You'll need an amp, but you can get away with a reasonably cheap practice amp while you're learning.
Make sure you play it when testing it out.

More reason why this became my favorite Gorillaz song. The main riff is on bass, which I don’t think is too common.
That's because Peter Hook plays bass like a rythm guitar and also plays the high notes.

Well, actually they brought in Peter Hook from Joy Division and New Order to do the bass guitar portion of this song (and also the singer/drummer Georgia to play her electronic drums/octagonal drums as well). So if you wanna praise anyone for THIS baseline, you gotta praise Peter Hook.

I’d reccomend a good pick to get that iconic Peter Hook sound.
You should be playing the bass during the verses. If you listen close to 1:40, you can hear Peter Hook's picking despite you holding that open D.
Also, for the purpose of tone, you should 100% be using a pick and rolling back some low end.

The bass line in this song is really easy to hear. If you practice learning songs by ear you can figure out the basics of most songs in like 15 minutes.
