I had one of these 2014-2018. I didn't have the dock or controller as they're quite hard to come by and Razer released extremely limited quantities of the keyboards. If anybody has this: DO NOT download the graphics drivers from Razer, they crashed the system, get them from Nvidia. Update to Windows 8.1 (I tried Win10 and it frequently crashes). You can easily upgrade the RAM, SSD, and even the WiFi chip so you can have 5.0ghz WiFi.
nintendo: We made the first handheld gaming console that can be docked, and has detachable controllers! valve: We made the first handheld gaming console that can play pc games! microsoft: we made the first tablet that runs windows with a detachable keyboard! razer: P A T H E T I C.
Look Razer kishi makes your phone a Nintendo Switch but, with Shadow PC suscription you play PC games in handheld mode, trascending all known boundaries!!!
Bobo the Monkey a metter is the same as 100 centimetters and a foot is about 30 centimetter so a metter is a little over 3 feet and an inch is about 2.45 centimetters
Fairly sure the Switch is based on this. This thing was designed by Razer in conjunction with Nvidia. And the Switch is also an Nvidia system so... Yeah... Nintendo prides itself on controller revolutions but actually it was the Vectrex that introduced the analog stick and CAD derivative technologies to home consoles seriously the Vectrex was pretty impressive at the time. Even though the Vectrex wasn't a big success Nintendo realised that it had potential and so they borrowed these concepts from the Vectrex to use with the much newer and much more advanced Nintendo 64. That's how it happened...
Actually, the Switch hardware and firmware were both largely designed by nVidia. If they hadn't made a deal with Nintendo, we'd likely have seen a very similar Shield.
6:45 Am i the only one who really doesnt care about thickness in any type of device? Like they keep making thinner phones that have horrible batteries and lower specs and less cooling for serious mobile gaming. in my pocket or my hands in makes no diff. In my game it does.
For comparison, how much tech has improved. This has .29 teraflops of performance at $1500 dollars. While the Steam Deck has 1.6 teraflops of performance at $400. So 5 times the performance at 1/3 the price in 9 years.
256 Gb : **Exist* Game File Size On Android : _Meh..._ Game Files Size On Snes : _Nah..._ Game Files Size On Apple : _Mehh..._ Game Files Size On Console : _Oh No!..._ Game Files Size On Pc : *3 TB TO DOWNLOAD THIS GAME, TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.*
Same here. This is Steam Deck's great great great grandpappy. Same for Switch, but in Switch's case it's the descendent of a one night stand between the Razer Edge Pro and Nvidia Shield Portable.
Linus, I have a question. I am able to get the Edge Pro AND the game pad, but am debating whether or not to get the Razer Blade Stealth with the Core. I already have the Lenovo Y50 but is hard and heavy to carry around. Which do you guys think is the better buy?
I know you might get this a lot, but your videos are REALLY GOOD lol. You're the most educated UA-camr I have seen when it comes to technological stuff :)
5:30 - Been trying to come up with a way to make a controller doc similar to that, but make it look like a Wii U controller, and work with a Windows 8 tablet.
EU isn't the only one with metric either, I assume. But, your point is valid and Metric system becoming universal would save a lot of hassle for a lot of people. To me, It doesn't really matter though. You can always google info about conversions and it's easier than ever. Also, to be fair, since Linus didn't know about oz and still gave info in imperial tells me that most of his viewers are from US, which seems like a real solid reason to me.
hey linus, you can enable the classic onscreen keyboard in the metro control panel -> general -> make the standard keyboard layout available. that'll give you a keyboard that looks just like your physical keyboard
Deep down inside me wants me to buy the razer edge but thinking of the compromises that razer has done for portability and in order to make it as a tablet it makes me hesitate. And I'm very particular with graphics when it comes to game, I don't want to compromise quality over portability. But despite that I'd have to give Razer a big thumbs up for making still a great product :D
I have high hopes for this type of device. I see this as a competitor to the nintendo switch. However, I hope that newer models will have usb ports on the device itself as well as the ability to use multiple bluetooth devices at once, so that many controllers can be used for multiplayer couch gaming. I hope tablets become the new desktop pc.
l don't know about that anymore. With the Switch being able to run Doom ( a bit buggy, but still Doom) that's mighty impressive. This thing has a hard time running Tomb Raider. But when l manage to get my grubby hands on it. l'll test it for myself. l just ain't paying no $1,000 for it tho.
Pretty sure if you press the keyboard button on the right of the keyboard, you can change it to a standard keyboard layout (letting you Alt Enter etc.).
Good luck using that Aurora in an airport waiting for your flight... It is expensive, and it is a niche product, but there's not a whole lot else that can deliver full PC games with that level of portability and if that's what you need this is a good option. I can see a little bit of competition with NVidia's Shield, but it's really pretty different even if they have pretty similar purposes.
I think this is a really dumb product, but the best unboxing vid you've ever done Linus! Camera work, glamour shots, no awkward pauses or hesitations, great job man :)
Having maxed out settings is nice as well too though. Overall though, it should be about the gameplay, and the great graphics are an added touch. Plus, if you have a nice graphics card, you don't have to upgrade it very much.
I would buy it in a heart beat but the battery is my concern and thats the first gaming tablet which mean that within a couple years, it would be thing from the past because there would be more. The price is fair if you want high end graphics and everything else.
If no one has answered your question yes you can play league of legends on this tablet. However, LoL isn't a very graphically intense game. I bought a laptop for about $500 and I play LoL on maxed out settings with 45-60 FPS. It's a nice and unique gadget but I would recommend something less expensive for what you're looking to do.
I wished I had one :( I won't use it for big games like NFSMW or AC3 but it's good enough to play MW2 online as I play it everyday. It'll be also very cool to take it to graphic designing classes showing your adobe works rather than taking a normal notebook :3
Dude this tablet is a BEAST I'm pretty sure you can play anything you want on it haha It's a powerful tablet If you look at the specs it's almost like having a gaming laptop in tablet form. Like he said in the video. "A Gaming laptop in tablet form".
I didn't see anything in the review get any kind of LTT seal of disapproval.. . He actually seemed to like it fairly well DESPITE the fact it was a Razer product
Linus liked it. He was defending it, but that doesn't change the fact that it was 1,500 dollars and kind of sucks lol. I think Linus used to be a Razer fanboy back when he made this video.
The 690 doesn't always scale as well as you'd expect, so the titan will have more reliable performance, and in some titles it will have higher framerates.
I wish people would get over this hatred for windows 8, it's an awesome OS if you give it a shot, and if you really want to be that stubborn, get one of the many cheap (or sometimes free) 3rd party programs that bring back the old start menu and reap the benefits of windows 8
I had an email from Razer last night saying they have them in stock for their press writers (I'm in the UK). It should be in the EU soon (hopefully Q3/4 this year :)
oh I'm not interested in it either, but I'm not interested in an iphone and that doesn't stop people from buying the new model every time. Keep in mind though this should NOT be compared to a standard desktop pc setup. This is a MOBIL device. More like a gaming laptop, but without being anywhere near as bulky.
Yeah, on my laptop I am happy as long as I can play my games at 60FPS and even do go down to 1366x768 which is totally fine for even a 17,3" screen. It's a weird what gaming is turning to and the only one profiting from it is AMD/NVidia because they can demand extreme price raises for an increase of a few FPS (e.g. 7950 vs 7970)
There is an advanced Windows 8 keyboard that you can enable in the Windows 8 Metro control panel which allows you to do stuff like Shift+Tab and CTRL+ALT+DEL
In all honesty, the price of this machine is pretty dang crazy, but when you look at the specs, I can see why. It literally out specs many of the hyper expensive alienware crap that over heats in a month. It is ultra portable, touchscreen/keyboard enabled, has a 256gb ssd. Its expensive yes, but if you plan on lugging around your 1500 gaming pc on a plane or during a car ride, good luck. Its all preference I guess.
I think this is a project that razer is trying to explore with, much like the switchblade. The market for gaming devices is pretty stagnant and no one else is really willing to go that extra mile to push "innovation" (and i use that sparingly). Just like the WiiU this probably wont sell to a lot of people, but it's the technology in the generations to come that will, and without this starting point, that tech wouldn't come at all.
I think it's more a hyped product and it is great to see it in this formfactor. But you're right you could buy a laptop with the new 8970m for this price and a lot better specs.
This is amazing! You can play steam games that are also on xbox and ps3 or ps4 and xbox one . What im saying is you can play console games on a tablet with same controls amazing job razer and on
think about it spongbob, a high end gaming laptop would be pretty heavy, and quite big, and Linus said that if the tablet's performance was measured by weight, it would be the best tablet out there. Also, $1500 isnt high end for a gaming laptop
The price is high but think about this it is first generation Gaming Tablet think about the R&D that had to go into this product just to make it work right and function there will be revisions and i don't see it staying at that price forever. They have spend 2 years if not more developing and making this this product alone.
Early version of the Nintendo Switch?
***** I wish I had an answer
BlazingVictini exactly. Nintendo ripped off an amazing product
Mike7998 exepct the switch is portable this is not
Brent elias are you joking
Brent elias It is a tablet and it is most defineutely smaller than a laptop how is it not portable
I mentioned battery life a couple times in the video.
I had one of these 2014-2018. I didn't have the dock or controller as they're quite hard to come by and Razer released extremely limited quantities of the keyboards. Your a legend for pointing this out 9 years after the edge released.
Hello friend,just bought one used,if i upgrade the ram and ssd,can i run emulators well?like ps2
Looking at this video in 2022 now that we have the Valve steam deck made me realize how much ahead razer was!
nintendo: We made the first handheld gaming console that can be docked, and has detachable controllers!
valve: We made the first handheld gaming console that can play pc games!
microsoft: we made the first tablet that runs windows with a detachable keyboard!
razer: P A T H E T I C.
look it's the Nintendo switch!
Cool.

oh god, it's better than my laptop
Thelolmobile11 yes is better that your laptop
Same
Not mine
+Thelolmobile11 same
+Thelolmobile11 it is better than my pc
Metric Linus, you are Canadian. Use the metric system. In fact the whole world should use the metric system.
metric master race
Benji cmm i wish america would use metric QQ
He uses the Linus Arm length system
while I don't know metric very well I do agree it would be so much easier if everyone measured things the same and metric is much more precise
Bobo the Monkey a metter is the same as 100 centimetters and a foot is about 30 centimetter so a metter is a little over 3 feet and an inch is about 2.45 centimetters
This isn't the Razer Edge with incredible performance that I was looking for
Razer really needed to differentiate the 2022 release from this one 😂
It's never like in the presentations
is this the nintendo nx unboxing
yourtube1234567 at the time of this comment, the name had not yet been released
weren't called that when i wrote this comment but nx does sound better lol

Nintendo just bought up all the chips nvidia wasnt using anymore, hardly working together
Actually, the Switch hardware and firmware were both largely designed by nVidia. If they hadn't made a deal with Nintendo, we'd likely have seen a very similar Shield.

Andre Daoust omg yes, somebody that understands me, all these Apple fanboys ranting bout thickness on everything ffs
this was my first video i saw of linus. i dont regret it
This needs to be redone! Want this steam deck -like thing with Nvidia gpu!
Man I would love for them to bring this back in 2019
Same honestly
@Identity if only i could
For comparison, how much tech has improved. This has .29 teraflops of performance at $1500 dollars. While the Steam Deck has 1.6 teraflops of performance at $400. So 5 times the performance at 1/3 the price in 9 years.
Closest thing you'd have is a ROG Flow Z13, but it's slightly larger and more of a 2-in-1 type.
Steam deck has entered the chat
A new version of this with a gtx 950m would be super sweet :D and smaller bezels please, razer!
Bezels seem to be razer's greatest enemy.
+None of your business Quality seems to be their worst ennemy
The quality of the Razer Blades are unrivaled. I don't know what you're on about.
+Weirdo quality/price. same item could be 50 bucks instead of 2pp
probably 1050/60 nowadays.
"I don't know how many ounces are in a pound"

I hope you are watching the new videos. He is dropping a ton of stuff :D
Finally an alternative to US Customary units. Henceforth the base unit of length shall be one "Linus arm length."
watching this in 2023 in the era of the steam deck. its wild to think what we almost had to settle on.
@@pitaluke1995 this thing was awesome for the time. Wish I still had mine
Coming back after the Steam Deck announcement. I just wanted to remember that Razer entered the room before Nintendo and Valve xDDD
Same here. This is Steam Deck's great great great grandpappy. Same for Switch, but in Switch's case it's the descendent of a one night stand between the Razer Edge Pro and Nvidia Shield Portable.
Forgotten tech makes a return
Linus, I have a question. I am able to get the Edge Pro AND the game pad, but am debating whether or not to get the Razer Blade Stealth with the Core. I already have the Lenovo Y50 but is hard and heavy to carry around. Which do you guys think is the better buy?
This tablet is nearly 4 years old now so it would be better to get a razer stealth and the razer core as they came out this year
ok

same, I still can't find one.

Razor did the dock design better than Nintendo
This is probably the funniest review I've seen in this channel. Keep it up!
When Razer has a better dock than nintendo Kappa
5:30 - Been trying to come up with a way to make a controller doc similar to that, but make it look like a Wii U controller, and work with a Windows 8 tablet.
Funny that tablet is better than my laptop ..... actually not so funny after all.
Linus, you are by far my favorite reviewer! Keep up the FANTASTIC job!!!
But actually, you should go to the PC settings via the charms menu and enable a full-fledged keyboard
EU isn't the only one with metric either, I assume. But, your point is valid and Metric system becoming universal would save a lot of hassle for a lot of people.

Razer Edge 2 when?
Timstuff lol don't put your faith in piece of shit Razer

VectorGhost I'm not saying that I like Razer. But you're just salty because you can't afford their things.

Data Hogs
Oh it's OVERKILL to the switch 😂😂😂
so I can play pc games without steam straight from the device if I download it
Junior Anthoney its basically a windows tablet with a controller attached so yea i guess
I'll have two number 9's, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45's, one with cheese, and a large soda
this is bassicly a powerfull nintendo switch
If you compare the two, it's not really more powerful (I don't really know how the Tegra X1 compares to the GT 640M, but it's probably worse).
Slippy Toad Actually, if you compared it to the switch at the clock speeds they shipped it at, this is indeed more powerful.
l don't know about that anymore. With the Switch being able to run Doom ( a bit buggy, but still Doom) that's mighty impressive. This thing has a hard time running Tomb Raider. But when l manage to get my grubby hands on it. l'll test it for myself. l just ain't paying no $1,000 for it tho.

Why would there be lagg? It's offline

It's a proto-Switch.
10 years later they came back out with it smaller and a detachable controller…
Wall wart? That's new to me.
He used it wrong. That's a name for the AD->DC power adapters that have the plugs on the box, so they look like a wart when you stick them on the wall
Having maxed out settings is nice as well too though. Overall though, it should be about the gameplay, and the great graphics are an added touch. Plus, if you have a nice graphics card, you don't have to upgrade it very much.
Cant believe this was a thing in 2013 lmao
Can Razer do an upgraded version of this now when we have dedicated GPUs in ultrabooks?
What is wrong with Razer? This tablet is £440 CHEAPER in the US than the UK...
No.... No... one US dollar is 2/3 of a pound...
yeah sorry I meant £640.
generally things are more expensive here in europe
yeah but thats a ridiculous price difference. It doesnt cost £400 to ship a tablet over form the US!
The Monsters dollars is more then a pound
I would buy it in a heart beat but the battery is my concern and thats the first gaming tablet which mean that within a couple years, it would be thing from the past because there would be more. The price is fair if you want high end graphics and everything else.
In the description it says "MASSIVE 256gb of storage". It is ok, but not MASSIVE.
Thats massive for a tablet though
some tablets only luckily have 32GB with a max 128GB sd card slot thats still not close to 256GB
I don't see apple with a gaming pc. lol
TheEnderKidTZX
It is MASSIVE, as for tablet.
I've got same capacity SSD on my desktop.
TheEnderKidTZX for a tablet it is pretty big
If no one has answered your question yes you can play league of legends on this tablet. However, LoL isn't a very graphically intense game. I bought a laptop for about $500 and I play LoL on maxed out settings with 45-60 FPS. It's a nice and unique gadget but I would recommend something less expensive for what you're looking to do.

Steam Deck gang 2021!
Can you add a mouse and keyboard to the usb ports and use it like a pc?
get a adapter, plug your usb mouse into your android, ill wait

Yea, since babies nowadays play battlefield 4.
Nightshadesz

did this ever get a european release date? i've been looking for retailers in norway and this thing nowhere to be found
Det var en flopp så det kom aldri til norge
I can't find this in any retailers in North America, so I'm assuming the only way to get it is to order it online
I had an email from Razer last night saying they have them in stock for their press writers (I'm in the UK). It should be in the EU soon (hopefully Q3/4 this year :)
Alienware= overpriced and not even that good, for the same money I can get a badass desktop
Kris Nijholt this is razer dude. Wrong company
oh I'm not interested in it either, but I'm not interested in an iphone and that doesn't stop people from buying the new model every time. There is an advanced Windows 8 keyboard that you can enable in the Windows 8 Metro control panel which allows you to do stuff like Shift+Tab and CTRL+ALT+DEL
search for on-screen keyboard in the search charm, it has alt, shift etc. the 'metro' version of the keyboard does not have them.
what about the touch itself? the response time and sensitivity of the screen is good? you didn't mention it and it's quite important
not for most gamers
In all honesty, the price of this machine is pretty dang crazy, but when you look at the specs, I can see why. you can use it as an "AIO" with a keyboard and a mouse with the dock
This needs Haswell badly... Along with 700m series. Next gen will be amazing
I think this is a project that razer is trying to explore with, much like the switchblade. It's so incredible, how technology is progressing
What valve looked at for inspiration for the steam deck
You know what's crazy? The new razer edge is like 10 times smaller than this one.
Aah yes my first ltt video.. feels man

I would totally get this if it wasn't for the battery life... And the fact that razer still doesn't sell it anywhere but America/Canada.
no one tell 2013 linus that Valve will soon release the steam deck
You can change the onscreen keyboard to a full keyboard in the w8 settings.
Linus why not just plug in a keyboard for a few seconds to adjust full screen and such?
hi linus...i'm a fan of your reviews and technical tips. do you happen to keep a razer edge docking station? or the keyboard dock?
hey Linus, after a long-ish gaming sessions, does it ever get too hot? Like uncomfortable?
