- On his visit to Montréal to play the "Greenfield Guitars Shop Concert Series" in July of 2012, Andy McKee stopped by the workshop to record a few videos. Here he is playing his new G4.2. As usual, you are listening to the artist, the guitar and a single mic in the bench room of my workshop. Live, off the floor. There are no pickups being used. The sound is pure. Enjoy!
To me, easily his best tune. The one that made me want to go down the acoustic road. Never gets old
+rival junior I agree that it is a fantastic tune, and certainly underrated...but how can you even pick a favorite Andy Mckee song, LOL? For me, there are so many good ones: Art of Motion, Common Ground, Joyland, Mythmaker, Gates of Gnomeria, The Reason, Never Grow Old, Rylynn, Into the Ocean, Away, Heather's Song, Shanghai, For my Father...I don't think I can pick a favorite!
I want to build my own log cabin with my bare hands to this song.
I can just picture Andy walking in to a guitar shop, sitting down in the testing area and doing his thing on a guitar then simply putting it back on the shelf and walking out of the store, leaving the two dudes behind the counter speechless :)
this is insanely perfect
WOW~ That 's so amazing
What a fun piece... Keep em' coming Andy!
Thanks for inspiring me, Andy!
When UA-cam suggested this song, I was like. "Yes, this song!", but then I started watching the video, and saw Andy is clearly grinning, like he's also going, "Yes, this song."
I’ve been to Ouray and this sums it up perfectly! Beautiful.
when someone is having fun playing a song, then I naturally become happy listening to that song :)
Favorite from Andy 🧡
This song is actually pure joy. Actually pure joy
I love the subtle fan-fret on this Guitar, beautiful. McKee makes it look easy as usual
great guitars and the tone is awesome. Great job to Andy in this. Such a simple, easy going song that's fun to play & listen to. Mckee and Don Ross, Antoine Dufour . . . all those guys from Candyrat Records are a huge influence to me in my song-writing.
I think it's the way you can tell he is happy and likes the music that he plays that makes it so good.
Absolute virtuoso. Amazing.
Love it!
Nice waking up to Andy on a Greenfield... Going to be a great day! One day I will have a GF model!!!!! Thanks, Michael
Shades of Leo Kottke...Very nice piece...Thanks for the post...
Beautiful
I'm very much straight, but damn it as soon as I start watching one of Andy's videos and he's got that innocent almost boyish smile on him just as he starts playing I just can't help but go "N'aaaaaaw" - He enjoys what he does so much, and it shows. I can only hope to God that one day I enjoy my job as much as he does his.
Amazing...
With all of Andy's great music, this song (for some odd reason) is still in my top three favorites. It's a happy-sounding tune. I haven't seen any recordings of him playing it, though I've seen him do it live! Great playing buddy! BEAUTIFUL guitar Michael!
OMG a song of Andy Mckee that I can easily play! ;D
Nice to see some new videos from the master!
Sitting in Ouray at this moment due to this song.
It is so nice of UA-cam to remind me of new old stuff from Greenfield Guits. Great work again sir. Great player to show off your work as always :-)
great location !
thats crazy how he can keep that beginning beat going throughout
The harmonic at the end is majestic.
Wow!! Really so cool!! I really can't stop watching this video!!!
Thank you for uploading this so cool video!! I'm very glad!! :D
Learnt this and few other pieces of his during the summer, but it's hard to sound at least anywhere near as good as Andy... That is what i call skill. I love the feel of every damn note this man plucks
I heart Andy McKee. See you soon at McCain!
This has always been one of my favorite pieces of Andy's. As per usual, the G4 sounds supurb :0)
Good to hear this older tune too. I played the hell out of, Nocturne CD, all those years ago.
sounds so good when played slower. great song and great guitar.
He is just a human being with a passion for playing guitar after yeeeeeears of experience ;)
i had learned this song and stopped playing for a year and totally cannot remember how to play it. need to learn it again
thanks, I've just been to his official website & bought it.
Cheers!
pleasant to hear
I listened to my breakfast this morning ;-)
powerful sounding :)
This song makes me think of the girl im in love with; I picture her riding a bike on a sunny day, smiling and shinning through the city. This is a great song
Lookin good brother. Keep on keepin on.
I like that! I agree competely.
while you guys argue about someone crap comment, i'm going to continue enjoying the greatness that is Andy McKee :D
Haha that is so awesome! Don't let the look of Drifting intimidate you, I know people who picked that song up within a few months (that may be a while but compared to what you would think it would take, it's not bad at all!). So good luck on learning these songs, they're a ton of fun to play and impress your friends at bonfires ;)
very nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They invited him to play when he went there to pick up the guitars he had them make for him. I'd go crazy to see him play in person
Well this is a jolly tune
Yes I'm glad you figured that out.
Andy's songwriting process:
Insert talent, receive masterpiece.
In all seriousness and as a guitarist, the way you put songs together is breathtaking, and emulating you somewhat in my writing and styles the past 2 years has been nothing short of invaluable. So on behalf of every musician out there that you've inspired in one way or another, sincerely, thank you for generally existing and making blissful, sometimes incomprehensible, yet ultimately jaw-dropping music.
The best acoustic guitar in the world. Not even close to being competed with by anything else. With one of the best players!
Mr Greenfield - Thanks for making this level of tone a reality. You're a genuis. One day I will save up enough to get my own. Worth every penny.
The guitar looks stunning, Andy McKee's beard doesn't look stunning, the song is beautiful and the finishing harmonics are superb. That's all I can say.
talents are generated from our self interests...
He's just a human being with talent from God ;)
Man!
nice !
nice andy
He's just a human being with talents given from God :)
I can hear just fine here by the way :D
Always loved this tune from Andy, I know he borrowed the tuning and some melodic ideas from Lindsey Buckingham's (Fleetwood Mac) Never going back again for this one, but after listening over the years its occurred to me that this could easily be a new John Mayer tune. Think of his voice just kind of humming along with this, fits so naturally.
They are :)
One of my local guitar stores has some really cynical employes, they haven't heard me play, but they already gave me a ticket of an amateur-light strummer, because I've only played for a year or because I'm a teenager, or maybe both. Already got down ebon coast, now progressing on this one and I'll see if I can strugle off drifting or hunter's moon, which I really duobt, but still, can't wait to show them! lol
Phenomenal! I kind of wish the microphone wan't blocking his right hand... but really, who can complain? :)
This reminds me of Ewan Dobson a little.
Amazing as always! the guitar is not just but beautiful but the sounds that Andy gets are amazing!! by any chance can you tell me what microphone was used on this video? thanks in advance!
This video keeps loading in my pc! It won't play :( this will be my first time that I will watch Andy playing Ouray.
Yep, Andy wrote the song when he was staying in Ouray :)
I started to learn this. Feels like a rather easy yet fun McKee song to start with :)
Maybe I can work up my way to try Common Ground one day ...
I'm pretty skilled when it comes to fingerpicking and tapping. I tried learning this recently and I couldn't get down the picking pattern lol
Yeah it's still not really "easy". But so far I have only had problems with some chord changes. I practiced the right hand like a madman though. Any advice for futher McKee songs to start with?
All laid back and stuff is one of the easiest i think.
All laid back and stuff by far the easiest imo! Then probably heather's song next is a nice one to pick-up, might take a little while to the hammer-on pull off chorus to sound nice, then Ebon Coast was next for me simply by virtue of it being in standard!
Would also argue that Drifting isn't too bad to pick-up, once you get over the initial feel of the tapping with the RH and the timing!
Tuning is a big point actually. I don't really have a problem with tuning down but I'm kind of paranoid in terms of tuning up ^^
I love Heather's song. Seems tricky to me. Haven't really worked on anything for a while though. Thanks for the recommendations. It's time to gather some motivation and practice again!
andy mckee's a guy i wanna play like one day. i find his tunes are quite relaxing and all of them suit the mood to the title of the song. rubbish? really? >:(
reminds me of something Tommy Emmanuel would do. Very cool.
oh ive seen how he does it now..... still its epic
super Guitar!!! what are the woods used?!
Would love the tab for this.
.
Fantastic skills.
yes. it's CGDGBE :)
The opinion is strong in this one.
Anyone know the story with this arrangement? Just got back from a trip to the southwest part of Colorado. One of the towns was "Ouray". Just wondering if there was any connection.
What Camera is he using to get this kind of video quality???
What kind of mic is he using?
is there an audio editing done there.. if there's no audio editing there what mic is that.. how come that it sounds like it's been recorded
What mic you using for this?
What kind of guitar is that ? I've seen Steve Vai use a guitar with the frets all jagged-like, but this one almost makes my eyes cross lookin at it !!!
I love his expressions he makes when he's being careful when hitting long transitions. some people look so effing stupid when they play the guitar lol
"This guitar... I Like!" *Smashes on ground* "Get me another!"
That is your opinion.
I think it has to do with the tunings Andy uses. For example Art of Motion is F# on the low E and that does not really works well on 27". Most of my songs have a low C so I can use the 27".
Ouray.. of colorado?
anyone sure of the tuning here ? looks like dadgad or dadf#ad
Is this andy 's new guitar?
The microphone covers his secret, 16 fingers at left hand.
Looks like the frets are fanned frets..but not sure??
what happens is that I'm from Colombia and I wonder how I can get this model and its costs
Probably around 15-20,000
fanned frets.. but not this extreme? nice :)

vitalismed hah i had the exact same thing a couple days ago. went in to buy my new Taylor 414ce Fall ltd (highly recommend btw) and the look I got as a 17 yr old was pretty brutal. Quite a lot of satisfaction when I whacked out Ocean (John Butler- great tune) Felicity (Sungha Jung) and of course Rylynn. if you havent heard of any of those please look them up they are so much fun to play! anyway hope it goes well man all the best :)
actually this is a workshop...and theres no "two guys" (vendors in there)...Just the Magnificent Michael Greenfield and all odf his Godly Guitars. The ones who left speechless are us. Go back to my guitar damn...too much to study!!! XD cheers!
