    liked the vid, i own a 335d xdrive but added the acs springs, owner speaks honest too i get around 31 mpg heavy footed and about 40+ on motorway runs. I nearly bought a golf r instead but a bit too common for me, 335d is a secret weapon

    I went from a Merc C350d to a 335d Xdrive and boy, what a car! The performance of this diesel is astonishing. I have embarrassed all sorts of exotica in this car. There is very little out there that has the all round ability of a 335d and the best kept secret is only the educated car people realise what they are. Only half a second slower than an M3 to 60 mph, but far more usability with the stonking Xdrive system.
    I cannot think of any car I would replace this car with that would have the all round performance and economy of a 3.0 litre diesel that I have managed to achieve 52mpg on a run from London to Stafford.

      how would you say does the merc compare comfort wise to the 335d?

      MrMrp69 Pickering Half a second is a massive amount of time...And everyone knows it's not a genuine M car.

      totally agree! i have the e92 335d and absolutely love it goes like a bloody steamtrain and i actually chose it over the 335i as i love the torque and smoothness of the engine even when u boot it oh and had it remapped at birds to 370bhp! next purchase 435d cant wait!😁

    I have this car, best car I have had. I’m about first on the list for a Tesla Model 3 in 2019, but if it doesn’t happen I’ll just get another one of these. Last car was a Merc CLS and I like this much more. I also have the estate version, de- badged, and I love taking others by surprise in this motor.

    Your right Jay sounds fantastic for a diesel. Not a huge fan of BMW but the ones you are testing make me interested especially with four wheel drive. Plus enough space for 5 people and a big boot

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 років тому +4

      yeah and this thing is faster than my R but hell of a lot better on fuel economy... maybe diesel is the future?? lol Since doing these videos i had never driven BMW before, always dismissed them as being expensive and luxurious, but when you compare them with merc and porsche... theyre pretty well priced for similar performance

      Jay Kay my brother in law bought a brand new 3 series 2.0 X drive petrol no idea why would have gone for the 335d or 4 series but then again his dad bought it as his 50 birthday gift. While my dad bought me a Ps4 in white for my 40th 😡

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 років тому +1

      lol well you never know mate on your 50th you might get a 911?? After driving this car, unless it is something special like the M2 i wouldnt buy anything else other than this and in diesel too. Before petrol engines sounded better, so that was the justification, but this thing... wow! lol

      Diesel's are actually close to endangered in the west. The road tax before was really good for diesels but for new cars it won't matter much any more. The real reason is their harmful emissions are ruining the air in the cities since more people bought them for cheaper road tax and fuel costs. Governments seem to be pushing to electric cars and charging diesel cars extra in cities for air pollution.

  • @shaunthomson6552

    My dad's got one of these, and I've got a Golf R. It was definitely a surprise when he floored it for the first time, I couldn't believe it was a diesel either. Madness.

    I'm loving these test drives mate! Really stepping up the game recently the cars you're driving are brilliant, I love the 135i, the 235i the 335d and the 535d, such an amazing set of kit in these BMWs these days, i just hope these x drives don't understeer in the corners when thrashing them, this could be a good golf r replacement mate! You could get a 16 plate one for about £30,000 well specced and with low mileage

      I'm glad you're enjoying the vids mate. BMW really are a fantastic brand! And at 30k that's a bargain! Gaz Nelson I have just been having this same problem - I have decided and today purchased the 335D - 64 plate with 19k miles... Off that back of having a 330D remapped. It’s a great car, golf not great on long motorway journeys...

      Gaz Nelson what did you go for in the end? I’m torn between Golf R, one of these, or an S4 Avant... The golf is probably too small for my needs 🐕 and the S4 too thirsty but I love the golf 😂... At 36 am I too old for one? DSG farting all over the place.

    Interesting how people's views differ, I regularly drive the Golf R but currently have a 335d as a courtesy car, same spec as this one with the 8-speed. I find the Golf R to be superior in fun, steering, responsiveness, speed and ease of use. I am dissapointed in the 335D, great motorway cruiser but preety dull if you want fun.

  • @18sri1

    Yeah it sounds alright but I'm pretty sure it uses active sound. Or in other words artificial engine sound through the speakers.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 років тому +1

      It probably does given its refinement but the sound isn't as amplified as that coming from the m2 or m4 so it seems more natural to me

    • @daveydixon1363
      @daveydixon1363 6 років тому +3

      No offence, but I couldn’t care how it makes that sound, just that it makes that sound. I bought an in-line 6 three series especially for this noise, which is all natural, but this car somehow sounds even better. People ‘fake’ noise with aftermarket exhausts, so don’t see any difference or am inclined to be prejudiced against this sort if in-cabin entertainment, lol.

      No it hasn't...it's a six cylinder twin turbo...The guy in this video is using manual sport mode so it tends to get a bit revvy...Auto is a very smooth and quiet

  • @andyw3152
    @andyw3152 7 років тому

    I'm all in favour for paddle shift, but in a diesel with so little rev range you must be shifting so quickly. The thing I can see that it would be good for would be being the correct gear for overtaking. Is that the salesperson sat in the passenger seat, or the owner, he didn't know what sat nav it was lol. Does he mean Twin turbo? BTW you can never turn off traction control.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 років тому +1

      I'd go with this BMW tbh because it launches faster, sounds awesome and does over 40mpg! You can get the adjustable suspension as well if you felt the ride was too soft but I think it's about right as it is. Servicing costs might be higher though with it being a BMW but I guess if you lease it that won't bother you.

      Jay Kay drove a 335d at the wkd loved it...Didnt even try sports plus. Tho I think I'm going to go for a 435d gran coupe.. same engine but a better looking car, boot is a hatch so can fit a good amount, Plus you get more standard equipment on the 435d. If only bmw got rid of the stupid runflat tyres. I got an f30 msport 318 diesel and it's brilliant on fuel nothing special on performance but it looks fantastic but the tyres are a pain. Bought the car from a bmw dealership as the car was their managers it was fitted with 20 inch msport wheels but when I needed tyres I could not get them anywhere in Europe due to a dispute with bmw and Pirelli. I was told by bmw they could be ordered but it would take a few weeks for delivery as bmw garages in Germany had bought them all up but is have to pay extra again on top bearing in mind the rears cost 330 each and front 230 each ! Ended up with normal tyres on it and some holts tyre inflation gel.

      but if i do fall in love with a car as a result of these test drives, then yes i would buy the car and replace the R. But i dont think that will happen, it would hve to be a real special car for that to happen

      Lol I agree with you mate but this wasn't a dealer test drive. It was a guy I met from UA-cam just like the BMW m2 video

    Great car but you're driving it like a petrol engine. The torque peaks around 3-4k. Any higher is wasted.

    jay i would put money its fake sound just like the soundactor on the VW

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 років тому +2

      It does sound more natural than the m2 and m4 though. Possibly though. It is a straight 6 so it will be the sound amplified where as the golf r soundaktor is trying to sound like a 6

    Diesels are boring compared to petrols but good for cruising long distances.
