I miss the-- grocery getting, and skateboarding, cooking, finding camp sites and general vehicle life stuff and sight seeing. Looking forward to getting that old magic and routine your videos used to have. Peace.
completely agree
I will always as long as Jake is putting out videos be a subscriber and fan but... I also agree greatly. Cannot wait for him to get back on track with what made his videos such a blast to watch.
Also agree. But it's understandable with everything he has been through this year. Losing his dad. Trying to reconnect with family. His beloved Jade needing an engine rebuild. Find love. He'll get back on track.
I totally agree, I miss the old Jake where he walks around the city and explore. Well because he didn’t have much cash or subs. Now since he got the cash and the subs it did in fact change him. I’m happy for him don’t get me wrong but he change a lot.
I lost my Dad at the same time as he did-- it was pretty messed up actually, so I 100% understand how that can change you in more ways than anyone will understand.
This is one of my favorite aspects of your channel. It’s all about freedom and independence. If you want to do something, you do it, even if it’s not the most popular thing. Keep on doing your thing man! I’ll keep watching no matter what.
David Churchill - Thank you!
His editing and the camera shots have gotten much better.
PeteezyTVeezy - Thank you!
He will switch back and when he does he will really appriceate the hardtop
I agree with you. I am on my third Jeep. The first two had hardtops. The third came as a factory soft top. As cool weather approached, I found myself missing the more secure environment of the hardtop. So, I found a good hardtop and full steel doors. Now, I have the best of both worlds. Soft top and half doors in warm weather, and hardtop and full steel doors in cold weather. I love having a Jeep!
I hope I am wrong but I think the soft top is a "I have been robbed" and "we told you so" waiting to happen...
The other thing you're going to hate... Your lift gate is now a flapping piece of plastic... So no more shelter from rain when cooking on the tailgate... You'll also be continuously fighting it to keep it out of the way... no more easy access to anything in the rear of the Jeep... Also, two or three miles of dusty dirt roads will turn those zippers into little Masterlocks... So be prepared to cuss and fuss when trying to open the window.
My soft top on my TJ was quieter than the hard top. As far as security, if they want in, they'll get in. And if you don't want to put down the how top, you can zip out the size and rear windows. And Michelle is awesome. Thanks for supporting the road trip 👍
Dan & Jen Nevada - Thank you!
The good thing about a jeep is you make it yours.. Looks good.
Adam Clark - And that's always what I do - Thank you!
Thanks for supporting Jake's adventure Bestop!!!
Jade's in fine form with that new soft-top & her engine work!
Scott Smith - Yes she is, better than ever - Thank you!
I really enjoy how genuine you are in your videos and straight forward you are. Keep doing you.
Joseph Trom - Thank you!
I admire your thinking outside the box, and your music/drone editing
Extra seat, but no space for it and bed, roof won't go down with roof rack on. His new gf said "she always wanted to do 50 state road trip'. I can see a trailer coming!!!
I roll a soft top year round in MI on my daily driver, 2dr. You know what else has a hard top? Minivans. I love that I can unclip 2 clamps at the window and flip it back for instant sun. Keep your FNS ready to go and you won't worry about bears or thieves. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you.
I went the opposite way and chucked my soft top into the corner of my shed and bolted on a hard top. I love it.
Seeing you back in Jade with Annie brings back the old feel! Glad you are back on the road!
Major Tom - Thank you!
Hey Bro I switched to a hardtop I bought out of San diego and I am really happy with it. My experience with soft tops were that they were broken into with a knife twice and in a good part of town. I am telling you this as a word of caution since you carry alot of valuables but you are a man and can make whatever decisions suits your wants and needs. peace brother.
This is what happens when you fall in love. You go from a hard top to an old softy.
Speedy 1995 lol
This comment made my day
Love the soft top Jake. Enjoy the freedom, there's nothing like driving through a forest on a sunny day with it down.
Thank you, John!
I like the soft top and its nice to see you making accommodations for another passenger. I was on the road for about 5 months. It gets kinda lonely after awhile! Good job Jake!
Thank you, Nanny!
Nothing better than the smell of a new soft top in the interior.
Love the time lapse through the trees as you drive by. Enjoy the new top.
Chris R Chevy Colorado - Thank you!
This is why I use Bestop products, even though I don’t have a Jeep any more. I put CJ seats and under seat lock boxes from Bestop in my 96 LandRover Discovery. Because they seem to like helping customers out.
Michael Hite - They sure do and their the BEST! Thank you!
Love the channel Jake.
I think it looks great! It's your jeep, so you get to decide what you want to do with it!
Liam S - Thank you!
Can't stop watching you drift Jade @42 seconds! One day! One day we will meet again! "Rob and Grandaddy"
Michelle and her husband are good people! Can't wait to see the jeep with the new seat and doors. Man it's like new!
Greg Holmes - Thank you!
Jade looks great with the Supertop! I had a 94 with the supertop and it was nice to have a couple different positions to adjust the tension of the top ie: temp changes and stretching from age. A little tip...take the rear window out vs. rolling it up and securing with the elastic straps built into the top. It stinks having the rest of the top and windows looking new and the rear window is scratched to Hell from the straps!!! Good Jeeping Sir!!!
Welcome to the soft top club. I miss my hard top but man there's no going back.
Gabriel Ripley - I agree - Thank you!
It's like boobs or butts.......tough decision
E vazkee - LOL - Thank you!
Both!
I had my soft top installed and I kept the hard top. I remove the hard top in March and use the rag top through summer. Choosing Both works too. I just couldn’t choose one or the other. I like the versatility and the different looks I can get. White hard top and of course the rag top is black. I have missed you Jake and I’m glad you’re back. Stay safe out there.
Butts and hard top easy.
just got back from Colorado Utah Arizona Texas jeep solo camping trip. Must drive the Million Dollar Hwy 550
It's really not that much louder. (As he shouts into the camera)
Love it!! I actually did the same went from hardtop to best top soft top about a year ago I really enjoy being able to take the windows off on the fly
Jorge Monraz - Exactly - Thank you!
I really enjoy Jake's videos. I finally went with a hard top, full time, simply because of the rear lift glass on the hard top. I really got tired of having to zip and unzip the rear hatch to have acess to the cargo area. But I admit, I love driving it with no top at all!
Damn it feels good seeing Jake and Annie back in Jade!! And now with a Bestop soft-top!!!!!! Good look!
Justin L - Thank you!
Love the new look to Jade! Do what ever you want :)
High 5 Jake! Your life, your rules! :) Kat xxx
Never seen Jade get sideways in a corner before lol the rebuild must have worked
Hey Justin - yeah, the rebuild turned out great - she's better than ever - thank you!
My Jeep had a minor oil leak the same time Jade did and I also installed my Trektop NX and put away my hardtop a few weeks ago. Its actually a lot cooler. I get it
I see things from both sides, but I'm definitely for the jeep life. Top down, doors off enjoying life!! Totally agree with street smarts and situational awareness, but I'm with Mr, Colt 1911!! Great video as always, the crew at Bestop seem awesome and very helpful.. Congrats, looks great on Jade. Keep the videos coming, be safe!
Bill Murray - Thank you!
you have such interesting camera angles for not having a camera crew. well done!
shad0fx - Thank you!
Completely agree with pros and cons ....I had a Jeep with a soft top ...whereas the other 3 people I know had hardtops...we all were happy with what we had the difference was I had my top and doors off 99.5% more than they did ... hope it works out for you man ....
Starmanis - Thank you!
Man, that top looks great on Jade! You're going to love it, you won't regret this change at all. Enjoy!!
Thanks, Vinny! I have always wanted one and know I won't regret this!
love that top. been thinking about getting one for my CJ. this sealed the deal . thanks Jake!
My 95 yj has always had a soft top. I've never experienced the hard top life. I love it wouldn't change it. Extra clothing in the winter and your golden :) nice choice jake :)
gerby1818 - Thank you!
iamjake Welcome man!
Honestly, the hard top probably would deter thieves and the like. My 2015 JK came with a hard top and I swapped it for a soft top within the first few months of ownership. Sure, my JK has been broken into twice in my 2+ years of ownership, which may not have happened if I had the hard top. However, I have never regretted my decision to go with a soft top. Bad people are everywhere and everyone has an opinion. Enjoy that soft top. Nothing better than a Jeep with the top down. Cold, hot, summer or fall. Been around for a while Jake and you continue do you brother.
Craig Willcutt - Thank you!
Jade looks cool and cold in the winter !
I just keep the hardtop and the soft top you never no when you travel north for longer time ,a well isolated hardtop will be welcome .
That’s my opinion ,my MB G class that I am building will have the too.
It looks cool anyway,nice.👌
Hugues Levistre - Thank you!
No probe ,Jade is yours and your trip .
d'ont minde the comments.
Louis Louis - Exactly - and I have given this a lot of thought! Thank you!
What about filling up the top with stickers from every state?!
Jerrod Bearden I think that stopped after the second top, maybe ?
yeahh im on long island and just threw on my hard top and already miss my soft top on the tj, the tinted windows and just the look. It looks much better in my opinion. Good luck Jake thanks for the vid!
Gaetano Femminella - Thank you!
I had a TJ with a hard Top. I now have a YJ with a best Top sailcloth. BEST TOP EVER! Don't miss my hard top at all!
Joey Alvarez - Thank you!
Love that snip of Jade a little sideways... “Drive it like you stole it” 👍🏻
I’m excited to see where your going with your channel. I have so many questions but I’ll wait till they are revealed in due course. 👌
Cj Corrigan - Thank you!
I hope you made the right decision. It’s true anyone who wants to get in can. The old where there’s a will there’s a way, but with a hard top it would create more noise which would make some thieves think about it first. Or the noise might make it easier to catch them in the act. Best of luck though. Love the channel.
Gear Runner - Definitely pros and cons to both! Thank you!
Awesome Jade looked beautiful with a soft top hope you stay warm in the soft top .
Tracy miller - Thank you!
Hey Jake, I find a shot of wd-40 on the zippers really helps keep things running smooth, especially during or after the winter. I run a soft top all year, and its great! Cheers man
Hey jake love ur channel. Been watching u for 1 yr now..I'm a soft top owner and I love it .. my question was why u went to a soft top with a roof rack..if ur top is not frame less won't u have to remove all ur gear plus ur roof rack to put it down..???
That's a sweet soft top! I hope your time in Utah is fun. I was just there on a senior trip and it was beautiful. I hope I can do what you do when I'm older. Have fun😌.
cookienugget - Thank you!
Enjoy the new top. Don't listen to the people saying you'll hate it! Got one on my jeep and I love it..you should be able to do what you want to your jeep without people hating on you for it. Have fun and keep Jeepin!
Trap Gaming - Thank you!
I get why you did it. I had a 94 YJ witha soft top. I could barely defrost my windshield on the coldest days. I ran Mickey Thompson Baja Claws, I couldn't hear the stock radio. My thought is, how often will you enjoy the top down vs. all the upsides of a hard top. I kept my hard top and took it off on those special occasions.
I have a soft top on my 2012 JKU and love it. Never had a hard top but buddies do. I’ll stay with the soft top.
As for the 2nd seat. Maybe that isn’t for Annie after all. 😍
Jade looks good on a soft top! I hope cold won't be an issue for you. Can't wait to see the next mods!
Harvey Herrera - Thank you!
I must have missed the scene where the soft top was easily removed. Don't sell your hard top just yet!
I know its a 6 years old video. But i LOVE your jeep 🌲🌲🌲🌲🚙🌲🌲🌲🌲
Jake I feel special to have been in your first 5k subscribers :) One day you should come up to BC!
Holdfast - I will come to BC one day! Thank you for being a long time subscriber!!
I've only ran Best Top soft tops after the factory one gave out. I have the hard doors and tinted windows on my TJ. I wouldn't change a thing. Best Top tops are quieter than the factory top. Jade looks great.
Jman - Thank you!
I've got to admit that soft top makes a hell of a difference! Looks super clean all black because the paint was chipping on the hard top a bit, obviously that was some of Jade's character but this still looks dope!
Awesome man! Colorado will see you soon. Loving the soft top - keep Jeepin!
Blake Harmer - Thank you!
Love my soft top!
Use candle wax on the zippers to keep them clean. Bestop also makes a zipper cleaner in a bottle with an attached brush. Just keep them clean and they'll last for a while.
I'd also recommend some zipper pulls. You can make them out of parachord. Saves the fingers big time!
Shutter Bugg - Great tips - Thank you!
Any Motorcycle overlanders out there laughing at the soft top vs hard top discussion?
if the hardware for the hardtop vibrate loose than some lock nuts/lock washers should be used.
True enough mate. Do I see a two car road trip on the horizon. Jade is kept for the offroading and thr second vehicle is used for travel and sleeping but that would need two drivers, didn't you mention a girlfriend two posts ago 😁
Exactly - Thank you, Craig!
Yes, its good for a chuckle or two! Im happy for you. In the end its a roadster (of sorts) and really ought to have a soft top. I think your gonna love it!
Given the work you have done to Jade, and the work you plan to do, perhaps fitting a tracker would be a good idea. If you are away from Jade you will know she has not been towed or moved to a shop to be stripped down, also if you are caught unawares you can safely let her go knowing the Police will instantly know where to get her back. Happy trails mate.
Jade looks awesome with the soft top Jake! Can't wait for future upgrades. I have a hard top, would like to switch to a soft top too.
Roger Diaz - You should do it and go with a Bestop - so happy I did! Thank you!
lmao your reflections when you were talking about the tinted windows 😂😂 Jade looks badass with the soft top btw
Evan Rackle - Thank you!
Yet another great video, Jake! Always looking forward to more videos!
Jon Yantz - Thank you!
Hello, Jacobson. The name really suits you. Great seeing you again. I see Annie's doing way awesome. Love you guys. Keep up the good work.
Daniel Barney - Thank you!
I like it Jake. I have a hard top on my JK, but sometimes would like to run topless without the hassle of removing the top.
tomb9953 - Thank you!
I was really looking forward to seeing the inside of the hardtop fill up with the stickers of every state.
That soft top looks awesome! Happy Veterans Day Jake, thanks for your service, sacrifice, and dedication. Btw, have you "retired" now?
Thank you, Roger! Not quite yet!
I've had both. Love my tjs soft top. It's loud, wet and dirty! !
Im confused.. with a passenger seat you cant have your cot. (Im watching this vid at work during my lunch break) so maybe I was distracted.. but is Jake still doing his 50 state road trip? If so, how can he sleep in his jeep?
ThisBeAndy - Yes I'm still on the road trip and I will be building a sleeping platform with drawers beneath for storage! Thank you!
iamjake Thats going to be awesome to see the build! Thank you for clarifying Jake.
Jade looks Amazing with that soft top, I love it!!! I have a soft top on my YJ, but I just put my hard top on for the winter, it get's cold here lol!! I look forword to your next video Jake!!
Travis Shatraw - Thank you!
Looks great Jake! I understand what you mean by wanting to use your jeep as intended.
Richie L - Thank you!
that soft top looks better than i thought! i love bestop
Adrian Salas - Thank you!
My last soft top from best top lasted 11 years...no joke. However..my hard top IS better in cold weather. With that said. I know your gonna love being able to strip down naked and cruze. Glad this journey is back on track. Thank you. Take care.
myke collins - Thank you!
Jake, I see your point. If someone really wants something, they will do whatever it takes to steal it. Hard top, soft top, doesn't really matter. They will break into it. I had a soft top on my TJ. My current wrangler, a JK, has a hard top. The noise difference was only noticeable at higher speeds. The freedom of going topless was so much easier on the TJ. I hope you enjoy the soft top.
John Stup - Thank you!
Just my 2 cents... great choice, I'm from WI as well and have switched all my jeeps, '90 YJ, '98 TJ, '00 TJ to soft tops and have NEVER been broken into, NEVER been cold, and as funny as it sounds have only taken the soft tops fully down maybe 5x. Personally I prefer taking doors off, zipping out the side windows and rolling up the back window. I roll like that until the snow flies!
Aaron Placke - That's exactly what I'll be doing! Thank you!
Brave soul jake!! I hate the road noise from my soft top lol. Keep the great content coming.
brayden davis - Thank you!
Dude! Jade looks awesome with the soft top!
Jesse Houle - Thank you!
So let's see...a matching front seat for Jade. Well, it;s fun to speculate. Don't tell, I bet I got this figured out. commence drumroll.
Glad your back at it :)
9 feet up - Hahaha - Thank you!
This dude has given hours and hours of his life to bring you 350+ videos so you can live vicariously through him, and the comments are full of a bunch clowns hating on the fact that he put a soft top on HIS jeep and met a girl. Gimme a break.
I’m not a soft top kinda guy but than again it looks sweet man and just because you’re an overland guy doesn’t mean you gotta have a hard top! You’re livin in your jeep 24/7 so make it as cool and as comfortable as possible man
Fabian Blanco - Exactly! Thank you!
A lot of commenters on here that think the hard top is a better and more practical option than a soft top. If you've ever owned a Jeep and appreciate it for what it is, you wouldn't think that. I have both a hard and soft top. My hard top has been stored for two years and I use the soft top year round. I live in Canada, so winter is NOT a problem! The tag line "It's a Jeep Thing, You Wouldn't Understand" is true. If you haven't owned one, or you don't appreciate it for what it is, you wouldn't understand. Cheers!
David MacDougall - Thank you!
On my 5th Wrangler and always had a soft top. The only one I didn't like was on my 4dr. It was not a one person task to take off and on. Actually that was my least favorite Jeep. I have an '05 Unlimited Rubicon now. Best one so far! Jake should consider one for the extra cargo space.
Hoping that the new top is very well insulated. I know my Sidekick would ice up on the back glass while the heater spewed 90 degrees in the front. Also, the tints should help and you can open them in the summer for a good cross breeze. Love it!
Thank you, Alisa!
A new passenger seat..? Who would be using that seat...lol. Bestop will be my choice of top when my factory LJ top finally wears out. Well done young man. The longer you hang around the west, the better chance of meeting to say Hello. Keep up the adventures.
Scott Slade - Thank you!
You should definitely consider an old military style 105 trailer. It would go great with the paint and style. And so useful!
Robert Weitendorf - Thanks for the advice - I'll look into that! Thank you!
It ain't no jeep without the rag top!
Iloveto Troll - Agreed! Thank you!
Bro I can’t wait till you come to the east coast!!! I’ve been watching the vids for a while and would seriously like to hangout with you!
Hunter Nix - That would be cool - If you haven’t already, please complete my 50 State Road Trip Questionnaire so I will have your contact info when I’m in your area. I use the completed questionnaires to meet up with the people you see with me in my videos!
Here is the link to the questionnaire which I hope you will complete - goo.gl/forms/ZopZP74rkYqGTBhh1
Thank you for your support and following my journey!
iamjake I️ filled it out at the beginning of the 50 state road trip! Im building my LJ up more now to be more trail ready. 35s, 4 inch zone lift, and Currie steering components and antirock systems! Check it out on instagram @_huntern15 !!
Would love to see a video of you putting the top down with the roof rack in place. I completely agree Jeeps need soft tops but most wont work with roof racks.
I'd hold on to your hardtop until you know for sure you're happy with the soft top. i have an 04 LJ and could only stand a year with my besttop soft top before swapping back. nice to have both as an option tho, id hold onto it.
Michael Navarro - I really do not have a place to store it so I am selling it. Thank you!
I can understand getting the soft top, its getting the full experience, plus its a nice change.
Little Jeeper - Thank you!
So if you’re putting a passenger seat back in, what’re your plans for sleeping in Jade now? Or is that one of the upgrades, like a rooftop tent or something? I’m excited to see where is goes, nonetheless!
Spencer D - Yes, I'll be building a sleeping platform - Thank you!
What you need is a lift (hand crank device made for lifting heavy objects) so you can by yourself without any help. I had my 80/CJ-7 for 17 years.
Jade sounds and drives so happy now!
Anthony Anderson - she's better than ever - Thank you!
2:39 just looks really cool
