Love your program. I own a 2009 BMW 750i and I love the car! Never had any issues with it. In fact I’ve owned three different types of BMWs ranging from the three series to the five series and the seven is the best. I do keep it maintained, change all the fluids; and you are right, a third-party mechanic is far better than using the dealership.

2014 BMW 328i xDrive - purchased w/ around 30,000 miles on it. Almost at 68,000 miles right now. The most major failure I had was a bad turbo wastegate which was replaced under warranty (CPO vehicle). A tank of gas is running me around $40 lately, and other than that the car has been running strong 💪🏾 I just take care of it & it has been extremely reliable. The stories about BMW’s scared me away for a long time, but my ownership experience hasn’t been bad & I’ll likely buy another BMW in the future.

Get a Pre Purchase Inspection from an independent Euro mechanic or the dealer. They might be more pricey but they know common problems!
Also if you can, while the car is cold check the coolant level. If there's a leak assume the whole system will need refreshing. If not now then in the near future.

Used to own E60 530xi, thought I'd share some info. If you are buying used, it is really really important to know the history of the car. Why? So you can know if your BMW is going to be a money pit or not. Perfect example is my previous E60, I looked at bout 20-25 E60s before actually buying one.
What did I look at specifically?
Service history, it is important to know what wear & tear parts were replaced so you can ballpark on what's the upcoming repairs/replacements are going to be. If you see a clean history with minimal replacement, I'm not saying its gonna be an unreliable car but it means that you are going to spend some money on doing the replacement.
To me, if the previous owner(s) did replace lots of things recently (wear & tears) = it's a great deal since the car is gonna hold up for awhile. Of course you to be smart about it, if the car had one of the less common failures known then you better look somewhere else.
Owning a BMW is all bout doing scheduled maintenance and replacements, for most part the manual book covers a comprehensive info on which parts will need to be replaced at what mileage. Other than that, the BMW community has a vast amount of infos and support if you need help.

I think a lot of people don’t even do the simple repairs themselves. These cars will bankrupt you if you don’t DIY.. they are great cars, very well made and a pleasure to own if you do your own work. I have a 2011 328i xDrive with 188,000 miles. It’s perfect still. This weekend o did bushings and balljoints.. I purchased the BMW special tool to do it and the cost was very affordable compared to the $2000 it would have cost me if i paid someone. Great cars.

I currently own an E90 335i M with the N55. I got the car at the beginning of this year with 102k miles and I ran it up to 105k in one month. There wasn't much issues as expected as previous owners had a lot of those things replaced like the water pump, fuel pump, head gasket, and I think that is all that I know for now. In one month of ownership my SES came on and it was the OBDII read 3106 cats efficiency below threshold. I took it to my local independently owned BMW shop and they will be replacing and fixing a couple of things: the vanos bolts breaking, pcv assembly, cats threshold, leaking front struts, and oil and radiator hoses. I shall report back with how much that will come out, I'm mainly just paying the $100 deductible from my warranty with GWC.

Bought my 1st BMW this year. 2015 BMW 328i 4 cylinder automatic twin turbo. Got it at 82k miles. So far the only things I've had to replace were the tires and head lights/fog lights. 885 at American Tire to get new tires 221 per RF tire isn't bad at all.
Eventually going to switch the RFs regular tires and get myself some nice red with black trim rims but that's after I can put a lot more time into the car. But runs wonderfully. Did a lot of research before buying it. Your videos definitely helped me make a decision Justin.

Went from a 2007 328 to a 2014 335. The 328 was an awesome car. Valve cover, oil filter housing gasket, water pump, starter, window regulator were my main failures. Car was about $900 a year to insure and it ran a lot of highway and I averaged 32 highway. Could anyone afford it? I don’t know. Water pump and starter repair was kinda high. gaskets were cheap but annoying to replace. Other than that I did regular maintenance and it was definitely more expensive than an economy car but not as bad as everyone says.

2011 E90 320d Auto Exclusive package. I average around 5.2 liter per 100km (90-95% open road driving) so fuel is really cheap. I service at a RMI approved BMW workshop and besides the synthetic oil that is a little pricey its not that much more expensive to run then my mother's VW POLO 1.6 Car has been extremely reliable in almost 260 000km / 161 000+ miles I have had zero issues. Only thing is the rear tires do not seem to last very long. But I suspect it's a combination of South Africa's bad roads and high torque output of the oil burner under the hood. 2013 328i convertible (E93) in Jan this year - pre-purchase inspection found oil leak trace, indie shop est is $500-$700. Ran into first major issue 2 months ago when engine started to whistle w/ check engine light and limp mode - took it to indie mech who diagnosed it as PCV issue, paid $1400 for replacing PCV + integrated valve cover. This high cost gave me a sticker shock since I had not spent this much on repair in total for last 20 years on prior cars I owned (Honda Civic + Subaru Impreza). Never was a petrol head so never did DIY on prior cars, hence paid for it. Then recently, when on full throttle, check engine light goes on and engine starts backfiring, everything fine if I restart ignition. Indie mech said it's either spark plugs/ignition coils/injectors. I'm now convinced that DIY is the only option to avoid getting burnt by the high repair cost. Now watching vids (including yours) and learning more about replacing plugs/coils. Need to start from scratch by buying the required tools, BMW engine basics, then tackling the plug/coil replacement as first DIY project. Last oil change cost me $150+ at indie shop. Not sure yet if I want to tackle oil gasket leak issue.

Drove it across the country from SoCal to Miami, FL going the scenic route (drove up through Colorado instead of staying on Interstate 10). Purchased the extended warranty on it, so again paid nothing on routine maintenance with the exception of tires. Unfortunately the car was totaled...went over a small rock while canyon carving after moving back to SoCal, rupturing the oil pan. After having it towed home, I made arrangements to take it to the nearest dealership to assess and repair, but the towing company turned on the car (there’s no oil in the engine!!!!) and pretty much sealed its fate.
2018 F30 LCI 340i - After living in New York and traveling for a year, I finally settled in a spot long enough to get a car again and went all out just short of an M car. M Sport with M Performance decked out. I fuel up every 1.5 weeks about 45-50 each time with current gas prices, insurance about 120/month, annual registration is astronomical at about 600/annually in California. On another 3 year lease and again practically no issues except for the door seals and a sensitive trunk open sensor (seems to be a common thing with South Africa builds after comparing with other F30 owners). Although the previous E90 is near and dear to me, I enjoy my current Bimmer because it looks more unique compared to the sea of F30s on the road (320i, 330i and most 340i but here you’re now rubbing shoulders with proper Bimmer heads). Again nothing on maintenance but tires this time around will be higher due to 19” wheels (previous two were 17”) at around 1400-1600 staggered RFTs.
I know RFTs get a bad rap due to cost and louder road noise, but I mostly drown out all outside noise with heavy metal and have piece of mind. Most reputable tire spots will not patch your tires but it definitely can be patched with no issues.

Oh and I’ve had bad luck with my tires...I somehow am a magnet for getting nails to puncture my tires on all three Bimmers. I’m on my second patch with my current F30...😓

Hey love the vids man, I myself have a 2007 BMW 335xi and although I have had some expected issues (water pump and high pressure fuel pump) I cant complain bc it is such an amazing car. I can definitely agree though, doing as much maintenance yourself as possible will save you a small fortune.

The N52 engine is indestructible! My brother has an N46 and has quite a few problems with it. I'm currently driving it (2006 318i) and it's an amazing car but breaks pretty easily and it's not too powerful either. I've driven N52 and it didn't seem to have any of the problems that I've seen on N46.

Do put some money aside for those fuel injectors in the future. If you can try to get INPA so you can program the injectors yourself

Ive got a 2013 116i f21, 106000+- km on and purring like a kitten, not too sure on monthly cost but i spend around 100 dollars on fuel, just mainly because i drive alot and we live a bit further away from certain things. Can completely agree with services being overpriced at dealerships, last oil change cost 140 dollars instead of 230 dollars at the dealership, i just didnt have time to change the oil myself. Your channel is awesome man!

I have a 2009 BMW 328i coupe, Iv had one problem so far and it was to replace a reverse valve in my gm transmission. The dealer wanted ($728), but I did it myself for ($183). Hopefully no more major issues in the future.
I love the car to death!

The problems with bmw aren’t the monthly costs, it’s the reliability in the long run if you decide to keep it. I had a 750i and after 60,000 miles gaskets were failing, expansion tank cracked, coolant hoses failed, water pump went out, valley pan needed replacement, I loved the car beautiful and fast but I went Lexus cause I was tired of the BS.

2008 328xi with 132,500 miles. Monthly payment is $165 and insurance is $152 per month (I'm a 22 year old male). So far I have put around $2,000 into the car in the past year, but most of it was not crucial to the operation of my car, rather it was me being picky with the driving/handling of the car. As far as necessary repairs, I have spent around $800 in the past year, but it was mostly broken suspension components and routine servicing such as the transfer case fluid, control arm bushings, tires, etc. Even though I could be driving something cheaper, I would not trade my car for anything else! Well, maybe a newer, lower mileage example ;)

TJ Velazquez Thanks for the reply. It’s funny u mention that. This is my 3rd Charger, previously had a 2006 & 2013 and the experience with this one has not been great. A number of things fixed under warranty but the main thing being the transmission was replaced at 6,700 miles because it was slipping.
I’m glad I’m leasing this with only about 10 months left. Although I really love the amount of features, technology and styling of the Charger and many other FCA vehicles... I’m just not sure I wanna get into another FCA product. But those new RAM’s are sweet!!
