  • In 1934, Florance M. Norman was deemed by the Kewanee Star Courier as Kewanee’s "most rabid” Chicago Cubs fan. She had seen over 60 Cubs' games over the last six years, and she discovered and sent four local players to the Cubs for tryouts. Most Kewaneeans know her from her days of leading the Henry County chapter of the Red Cross. But before that, well, baseball occupied a lot of her attention. I gave a presentation on Florance at Ottawa University’s 27th Annual Conference on Baseball in Literature and Culture on April 5, 2024. This video is taken from that presentation.
