  • Lonnie shares his own recipe for making great energy bars. These are great when you are out and don't have time to stop to cook a meal. Energy bars are great for times like when you are in a hunting blind, hunting stand, fishing, boating, four wheeling or other activities that don't allow time for cooking a meal in the outdoors. Energy bars are great for survival situations since they are something that you can carry with you in your outdoor gear everywhere you go. These energy producing trail bars are also great to have in a highway vehicle in case it breaks down and you are left stranded until help arrives. The energy trail bars are also great on the job for a quick pick-me-up for in between meals when you do not feel like you are ready for a full meal but you need something to snack on and give you a boost of energy. Enjoy
    BACKWOODS ENERGY BARS
    1 cup peanut butter
    3/4 cup honey
2 1/2 cups quick (instant) oatmeal
1 cup raisins, dried fruit or chocolate chips
    3/4 cup shredded coconut
Combine the peanut butter and honey in a medium saucepan and warm over low heat. Stir constantly until thoroughly mixed and warmed up. Remove from heat and add in the, raisins, coconut, etc and mix, finally adding oatmeal and mix a final time. Press into a 9×9 inch ungreased pan and let cool. Cut into bars and wrap with clear plastic cling wrap or waxed paper. No need to refrigerate.

Hello my name is Lonnie and My wife is Connie.
Here at Far North Bushcraft And Survival you will learn about many long forgotten tricks and tips of the old time woodsmen. Not only will you learn about bushcraft / woodcraft but you will learn many things that will help you to survive in less than ideal "survival" situations as well. Come along and sit with me by the campfire as I delve into these subjects in a way that you can easily learn to then do yourself.
I will show you how to make shelters, gather food, use wild medicines as well as start fires with or without matches, lighters, ferro rods, etc

Anybody reading this that hasn't made these bars, make some!!! Soon! You won't regret it. I've had a dozen pans of these OMG they're good, and I take some with me on hikes. Double the recipe though, just because they won't last long. Here it is 1:07 am on 2/13 and I'm watching this video again. I'm making these later today!!

It's an older video so someone might've suggested it already, but just in case nobody has yet: try toasting the oats and coconut in a pan (without butter or oil, etc) till they are golden brown before adding them to the mixture.
Love your recipe! I swapped the rasins for dried sour cherries and it's so so so so so good❣️

Hello from Moat Cottage in Australia, I just found your channel, it’s the channel I’ve been searching for, so I’m super happy. I made these straight away and while they cooled, I watched more of your videos. I added 1/2 the raisins and added half a cup of sunflower, chia & flax seeds mix and it’s so great. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and recipe

Well Lonnie, I've eaten the ingredients all my life and never thought to combine them. WOW, an instant hit in my house hold. These bars will be going boating, camping and pier fishing this this year. I dare say they will be well traveled. Your channel is great. Stay well.

Thanks for the recipe!!! I took your suggestion to add things.... Dehydrated apple pieces, dehydrated banana pieces, chopped walnuts and pecans. You're right about one thing..... ya don't have to worry about it going bad. It doesn't last long enough!!! I think next time I'm going to add about a quarter cup of apple sauce and see how that turns out.

a darn good idea, this had never occurred to me, I only get to eat once a day, leave for work around 6am get home around 4 or 5, have a quick bite. this is defiantly something I can make and bring to work and not have to worry about it sitting in the truck, not to mention much more healthy then those gas station hot dogs or off the shelf granola bars that are full of sugar and preservatives.
