  • John shows you how to change the lower unit oil in your new Mercury FourStroke 250 with the TorqueMaster Gen 2 lower unit. It is easy with the right tools. Tools needed are Mercury SAE 90 performance oil, oil pump kit, flat head screwdriver, tub to catch oil, paper towels, prop wrench, and wood block.

    Few things he left out.
    When the lube starts coming out the top vent plug, let sit for 5 min. You have to allow all the trapped air to rise to the top, once it sets pump again till it over flows....
    TORQUE THE VENT PLUGS!!!!! 8.66 ft lb... there is a reason these have bolt heads (10mm)

    Good video, I have a Merc 250 as well and it’s the first time I need to change the gear lube. It does aggravate me that the prop has to be removed when they could’ve given us access on the outside. But thanks to you I can very easily do this myself. Thank you for the video.

    Nice job! Changed in under 12 minutes! I always level my motor when refilling, but I think you were pretty darn close.

      Agreed. Lower unit should be level when filling.

    The 200 and 250 must be different, I have the 200 and it's only got a 1 inch prop shaft. But great video!

    55 lbs of torque and you should grease the prop shaft. Good video Thanks!

    The 90 weight oil is very smelly and does not wash off your hands easily. I use disposable gloves for this.

    read that you need to tilt eng up and down a few times and refill to ensure proper levels?

    I don't have to tale my pro off of my 2017 60 horse mercury, it has a drain plug on the side like the old ones, but it has a full level plug and a vent plug,not so sure about that.

      Jason Mausteller For sure. I go by feel. I put plenty in upon first time I put prop on. There was still enough on them so I didn’t mention it. Good call.

    Mercury says the beveled washer goes in the middle not on the end when putting back on

    • @DaleStagg
      @DaleStagg Рік тому

      Correct. It doesn’t do anything if on the outside. It is supposed to go in the middle and acts like a spring washer. He did it wrong here.

    • @Factoryphoto
      @Factoryphoto Рік тому

      So does that beveled washer go in the middle of the other two? And the beveled part facing in?@@DaleStagg

    Great video man. Was wondering if you knew if the 150 pro xs is the same set up as changing the gear lube as yours?

  • @flipper2473
    @flipper2473 11 місяців тому +1

    Hey John, is that gear lube pump attachment the same size as the old size thread attachment that fit would fit into the old 2 stroke motors , or do I have to buy a different pump for the newer motors? Also, have you ever heard a tic, tic, tic sound after releasing trim button? I hear tic, tic , tic after lowering motor to about 85% down, then releasing button. Thanks

    Do you get the lower unit oil screw "snug" or do you really need to make sure to get it extra tight? I just don't want to over tighten.
