That’s the opposite of what should be recommended. NEVER read a book (graphic novel) before watching the movie or show. 9/10 those that have loved the books will say the movies are crap and they’re massively disappointed.

    • @BalkanBiker
      @BalkanBiker 9 днів тому +1

When it comes to book/novel adaptations, it's better to watch the shows first then read the books. Otherwise the stuff you imagine in books would look wrong on the big screen and you can't really develop the same way you develop characters in books.
      Always the other way around.

If you're reading this, don't read the description of the video, it spoils some(maybe a lot) of the fun of the story. (Also, this seems a TV series, not a movie)
The Eternaut it's just an excellent comic/graphic novel and that makes me a little doubtful about an adaptation because it's not an easy task at all. But if they can pull it off, it will be one of the best series from 2025 and yes, in 2025 there will be a lot of peak series.
I also kind of hate the synopsis, cause it gives away... well, you know. I love the audience knowing as much as the main character (nothing at all) and discovering more as time passes.
You can certainly write an interesting synopsis without spoiling anything Dx
I will also copypaste my other response about a (maybe)better, spoiler free synopsis and a little spoiler for the start of the graphic novel:
*A deadly snow kills everyone it touches and Buenos Aires(Actually the world) turn into a wasteland. Juan, his family and some friends survive because they were inside the house. From then on, they have to survive in the state of anarchy Buenos Aires becomes (If covid teached us something, we fight even for toilet paper). But sooner or later they discover that this is not simply "toxic snow" and their enemies are not only the snow or other humans trying to survive.*
I hope the trailer is far more interesting that this First Look because the beginning of the Graphic Novel it's just so interesting (specially for a story written in the late 50's)
So, maybe, maybe not spoilers for the start of the graphic novel
** We are presented to Oesterheld as himself (the author/guionist of the story) when suddenly an unknown man appear out of thin air in front of him. A man with the eyes of someone that has seen it all.
The man present himself as The Eternaut and tries to convince Oesterheld to let him stay in his house to rest for a little bit before continuing his "search". In exchange, The Eternaut will tell him his story. **
This alredy set the tone of the sci-fi and is far more interesting than just a survival story.
PD: I kind of hate they didn't add a simple "maybe" about the speculation of the magnetic poles explanation. Again, Juan's friend is the classic science guy, so he speculates this is because the magnetic poles. He is of course wrong with his speculation as seen in the end of the video. "The poles caused this too?" is just a sarcastic remark from Juan to his friend.

@@imsiam4819 (I will do a slight spoiler of the beginning of the GN at the end) Since I don't know what they're gonna adapt from the graphic novel, I would still say:
The serie is about Juan Salvo, his family and friends that were gathered at his home when the "toxic snow" began. Everyone in contact with the snow died making Buenos Aires(The entire world, actually) a wasteland.
The group tries to survive the state of anarchy Buenos Aires will become because honestly, IRL is every man for himself (We fight for toilet paper IRL if covid teached us something.

They have it SUPER difficult. I was always obsessed about the mixture of "american comic" and "argentinean flare" that the graphic novel has.. And I don't know how they could translate that into a film.
When I saw the US adaptation of "the secret in their eyes" it felt like it lost its charm, but at the same time, I feel like The Eternaut will be super awkard if it wasnt produced with the standard US sci-fi filming style.
I can wait to see it but if I get dissapointed (whenever "it feels too much US" or "i would have liked it a little bit more US") I will know it was not an easy task to begin with

Oesterheld, the author of the Enternaut was being tracked down by the AAA in Argentina and had to wear disguises when dropping off his work at his publishers office. The Junta killed all four of his daughters and ended up capturing him shortly after the Eternaut 2 i believe (not sure if it was fully released) and pretty sure they killed him.
Dude was a legend. He was a geologist, child book writer, comic book writer, revolutionary and a true martyr. One of the greatest men to ever live, im happy to see them do a series on his work. Im not Argentinian but im sure they are proud of this series. It looks amazing.

I am so looking forward to this especially because they will be speaking castellano (I know castellano is a braud term but when your mother decided to move to europe and marry a german you can't be picky) and not some other dialect. I've been trying to find mroe things in castellano to watch to maybe pick up on words that otherwise don't come up in day to day conversations.
If anyone was curious. It is really hard to stay conected with a culture you are so far removed from especially in a mixed culture home. One of the ways I can conect to the culture is speaking the language. I pride myself in speaking castellano, spesicially castellano from Buenos Aires. I want to hear more spanish in media but I don't want to loose the things that make people go aha, your family is from Argentina in my speech. So getting to hear my dialect is really important to me and getting to watch this means a lot.
