- This is the second part of an Interview with Mance Lipscomb in which Mance tells the story of his discovery. The interview took place in Mance's house in Navasota Texas in September 1966 with Michael Birnbaum and Edward Iwaki. Most of the pictures shown here were taken by Edward Iwaki during that visit.
What a treat hearing Mance describe in his own words meeting Chris Strachwitz and Mac McCormick and recording for the first time. "Oh, man, I'm sure getting money now. That's the most money I ever made in my life." Mance was a great musician, a great human, and a national treasure. Thanks for posting this!!
When I was a kid I'd walk down to where Donny Boy stayed and listen to him practice along with many blues men. Although I'd heard of Mance I never met
him. I love the way he plays. Nice to hear him after do many years
I like listening to these old folks such as Mance Liscomb. Chris can say he never took advantage these old songters but he did in ways they had no understanding that he was.Chris got rich and the songters didn't. Mance never held it against him.Mance just hearing him speak seems he was a very humble and forgiving man.
Can only echo John’s comment below……….. great to listen to Mance
thanks for post this...very nice. I have been playing some Mance pieces lately so this is a real treat
Such a good man.. i wish i could've met him.. awesome story
What a great story ,thankfully he was treated with respect by these people
A friend of mine went through mances home town recently cycling through Texas ,and they have a statue to him ,
Yes, and his home town of Navasota also has a great blues festival in his honor. I highly recommend going. It is usually held in August.
