In my view, the worst thing the driver of the vehicle did was to start explaining himself to the officer. Gives the officers the feeling that the driver doesn't know their rights. Show your docs if/ when requested and don't speak to them otherwise.

Simply irresistible. The country I'm in has had the problem with trigger happy coppers forever, and have made absolute stains out of themselves in recent times especially. There simply isn't enough training given to these people intended to just push out that workforce, the standards of qualifications are equally inadequate, and the power on their hands, even when unarmed are to a great excess. It should be brought into question just how much power whether physical in armaments and equipment, and with their provisions in bending procedure to such great extent. It's comes a hell of a shock when you first encounter an officer lying simply to prosecute you when you've done nothing. I was hugely pro police until I experienced this. I know some honest cops, but the canteen culture means all keep quiet about the bully ones. I also experienced when he couldn't get me on one thing he kept making up another offence. It was a surreal experience, horrible and scary actually as he was clearly going to go through the book of offences until something fabricated would stick. @Nehemiah Scudder To be fair, I didn't trust it at first (it was a real bargain of a used car, so I had to have keyless if I wanted that particular vehicle). But I've got used to it and find it convenient. Although I do keep the key in an old tobacco tin when indoors. Can't be too careful!
Because it's a lie (we know it and they know it), they would happily claim to smell weed even if you only opened the window a couple of microns. It's part of the ACAB handbook nowadays. Remember how Rob said it's subjective? So "I thought I smelled it, but I was mistaken! means they can abuse it all day long without repercussions.
Probably not a good thing, but I generally get out of the car when I get pulled over anyway (unless it's raining). I don't like to give the cops the mentally commanding position of looking down on me in the car seat. Just my preference, and it's served me well for many years

Undertaking on a roundabout, if the police car was in the right hand lane it can easily be interpreted that the police car is turning right making it perfectly legal to undertake. It would be reasonable too that a car doing a tighter turn (round to a right turn) might move slower than a vehicle going straight on (left or middle lane usually and a much shallower turn) so "undertaking" is ridiculous unless the other vehicle screamed across the thing recklessly.
