Dude I'm so happy you're walking. 9 holes is all it takes to get started on the train to greatness. Plus more time between shots gets your mind clear for the next start! Go get em John!
You are the only UA-camr who makes me genuinely happy when I see you've posted a new video. Love the dialogue, humor, and the golf. Keep going man, we are all stoked for you.
Dude do this more often, you can do it. If you can golf in these conditions.... it would make you better golfer and it helps your health! Walking helps calms nerves too for shots, just catch you breath... your're more in tune with the course (when it's nice out and not soaking wet). Also, don't play outside of your game, don't get cute with shots. Focus on good contact first on every shot. Don't worry about anything else. If you flush a shot and it doesn't end up well, who cares! Get the feeling of good shots. You have 17K behind you on and rooting you on. I've been watching you for a while and tonight I felt like commenting tonight. You are an inspiration.
There you go, John! This is how the weight comes off and health improves. My blood pressure goes down, resting heart rate as well. And I play better because I have time too appreciate how lucky I am to be where I am.
Hey John not sure if you noticed but at 14:15 your alignment was 10ft left so it was actually a pretty good chip if you look at it that way! Some alignment sticks should be able to fix the issue! I think if you just nail the basics around the green you should be able to get in the 90's now, it's been amazing watching your journey!
i had never walked until last year, i figured if i golf twice a week i am basically walking 3-4 miles per round. it took a few rounds and then i was used to it. walking golf is the perfect was to integrate an enjoyable activity and exercise. keep it up.
Great job man, new to this channel but i can say that this is a great opporitunity for getting healthy. I was 427lbs new years day and started cutting out carbs. Now im at 387lbs 2/20/20. Dropping weight has really helped my golf swing and overall enjoyment of the game. No more heavy breathing. And i like walking the course now. Keep up the good work.
8:40 😂😂😂 You're a funny guy. Lots of positives to take out of this! All that walking is GREAT exercise for you. You're making some big steps my dude! Keep it up!
Much respect to you for getting out of your comfort zone and walking 9... Walking while golfing beats walking on a treadmill in a crowded gym every day of the week. Got yourself a new subscriber, can't wait to see your progress!
Man, your killing it. I got up to 380lbs and wouldn't play at all. Now I'm down to 265 and tomorrow I'm going to play my first 9 holes in 15yrs. Keep up the good work!
Dude...great video. Props for taking the time to post this. Regardless of your weight, golf is golf. You have a good swing. Keep up the good work. Would love to see more videos. Love your attitude. The world needs more people like you. Cheers!
First video I’ve watched from you. Great video! You’re pulling it left because as you bring the club back your swinging downward out to in. Try on the downswing hitting it from the inside and follow through outward instead of inside to the left. Keep it up man!
First time watching your video. Enjoyed it. All I can say is when you pull left you tend to not keep your head down from what I see. Keep walking Brother. You got it. Liked and subscribed.
Hey John, first time watching any of your videos, you are a funny dude, you had me cracking me up!! Aside from that, I usually never walk when I play Golf, I’m too lazy. But last winter when my club pulled the carts in and the weather stayed good enough to keep playing, I had to walk if I wanted to play, and I was just like you, so incredibly out of shape, granted I don’t weigh as much as you do, but I’ve put on probably 100 lbs since my college days, and haven’t worked out in about 15 years, once I started walking, I started to feel so much better!! Now I walk all the time, and I’ve probably lost about 10 lbs since, keep up the good work buddy I’m rooting for you!! Also I subscribed so I hope that helps!!!
Subscribed once I heard your commentary on the first hole :P Good job getting out there and pushing through. Walking is the way to go for sure. You feel more like you're playing golf. and you get a better feel of the course. I carried my cubs for a couple rounds but it was hard on the back. So I bought a used pushcart for $20 and walked every round I've played since. One of the best purchases I've ever made. As a fellow big man, I know it's hard, but it's worth it.
You're an absolute inspiration mate. I myself am severely overweight(168kg) and watching some of your videos has got me out on the course for the first time in 4 years, almost killed me, I'm a terrible shot, bit it was so much fun. Keep it up man, with you all the way.
John you are hitting the ball great for how long your backswing is. I had the same problem for many years and this is how you fix it. Stop taking the club back with your hands. You will never be consistent as your swing path is different on every swing. Keep your hands in front of you and turn your body...let the body take the club back. Keep your arms and wrists nice and relaxed. The momentum of the club will pull your hands back some more but you won't be near as long as you are now. Remember top of the backswing don't let your hands take over...instead fire the lower body. Work on this on the range before going out on the course though.
Walking is the way to play the game. Glad to see you pushing yourself on this! Once you get used to it you’ll never want to go back. As far as the pulls go, none of us here can really help the way a professional can. I’d recommend seeing someone if finances allow for it. I’ve always like Mike Dessecker at Golf Galaxy at fairlawn if he’s still there.
Thank you so much John for this video!! You have no idea how much fun it is to watch you golf. Way to walk 9 holes...I’m so impressed! Keep working on your game and you’ll get there...never give up! You rock!
Holy crap John this is impressive. I don't think people often stop to think about how hard it is to move around at your weight, let alone walk 9 holes. For the average person just imagine strapping 50lbs to your back and walking 9 holes and how hard that would be. Screw score. You are a fighter John, you get knocked down but get back up. The Tyson Fury of golf.
I never comment on videos but this was outstanding. Stumbled across this video today and genuinely smiled the whole time because I feel the same way about golf and walking for us bigger guys. You sold me. I'm a new sub as of now.
I love your channel. You seem like a good dude. I had the same problem as you when it came to snap hooks. I was coming over the top and I had an instructor tell me to focus on the inside part of the ball. It was a game-changer for me. That tip got me to a 8 handicap. Good luck man.
I am impressed. And jealous. With snow here I'll be lucky to play by April. You played well in the wind and wet and your putting stroke has improved. Definitely smoother than in the past. Plus you're walking. That is a large accomplishment. That alone shows how far you have come.
First video of yours I've watched. I commend you for walking 9 at your size. I suggest you do this the rest of the year, not only will you drop some weight but you would probably get better at golf. Mad props my man, KEEP IT UP!
keep it up I had health issues and put on a ton of weight now I play twice a week(weather permitting)and watch what I eat and lost 4 stone got a few more to go so hang in there, only found your channel and subscribed
Awesome work mate! I feel your pain, 12k steps for me today on a full 18 and I felt shattered and I'm 1/3 of your weight and probably half your age. so cracking effort. Keep it up. I Subbed and liked.
Great job bud! You were the first person I subscribed to back a ways.im so glad your back golfing! Love watching you try to break that dreaded 90! I have taught a bunch of people how to golf.wish I could help myself at times! I could give u a few tips if u would want them?glad to have u back!great job walking it out too!
This is my first time on your channel man and I love golf just like you! Keep pushing yourself with walking! I'm 4 months sober so its cool knowing others are out there trying to get better. Cheers man
Well done bro. Been looking for the motivation to start walking again. This may have been it. It’s nearly December, but as soon as I get over this bought with Covid I’m going to go walk nine!
Hey brother walking 9 is how i began my journey losing 150 lbs just playing golf i started out 324 lbs and i struggled to walk 9 but i did it i was gassed i wasn't even carrying my clubs but i went out and i played i walked 9 at least once a week usually twice a week and when i finally felt comfortable i would carry my clubs throng nine and i waited till i was comfortable and it was always a big goal to walk 18 carrying my bag now I'm down 150 lbs and its all thanks to golf the game i used to hate i would shoot 120 on 18 holes now i have found a deep love for the game and I'm shooting high 70s and feel great it took me four year but i actually had fun losing weight played golf and its helped me live a happy life and have a passion that keeps me in better shape so brother all it takes is just doing i promise you will love your self and have fun whipping everyone you know that plays golf
I am impressed - I hope you continue the walking. I subscribed. My only suggestion on the drives going left is to set up the ball so its centered more and not in front of your left foot...I have the same issue and I think its lack of flexibility causes my wrists to turn internally before hitting the ball
Greetings from Norway! This is so inspiring. Well done, man. Try shortening your swing with your driver and long irons and use less loft on the chip shots. It might give you more consistency. Looking forward to more videos.
Proud of you buddy I noticed you set up on the right side of the tee box a lot even when the fairway goes right to left.Try the left side of tee box and aim middle right this will give you more room for your draw.I think you did it on hole 8 but you hit a three wood.Hope it helps until you get your swing figured out .
It's awesome how you are able to get out! Good for Tim for making you do this! That's huge! As a golf coach and an NCAA golfer I feel like I may be able to offer a couple suggestions that I see with your swing that I see with a lot of my players. 1) it's my honest opinion that you need a much longer putter, with an enhanced grip size, that should help with distance control and flicking at the ball. 2) with your driver, your swing looks really good actually, I just think you should stand a bit more upright and bring the club closer to you. Theres a drill i teach where you place the handle of the club on the middle of your thigh and wherever the club head is, that's how far you should be away from the ball. Lastly, there is a lot of movement in your left foot that if done properly could help you stop duck hooking the ball. Either the foot should stay fully on the ground with a balance on the outside part of the foot, or lift it from the heel like a baseball swing. That however can also cause some issues but it should get the feeling of where it should be. I apologize this is so long but I really hope it helps! Love the videos, really pushing for you to be your personal best!
The belly gets in the way of the putter ... if you look the handle comes up as far as it can ... This stupid tire around my waist gets in the way a lot
Any temp above 32 (as long as the wind isn't horrible) is game for me. In the 40s, it's practically balmy. I've walked pretty much exclusively for the last year, and recently even went to a 'Sunday bag' and started to carry the clubs as well (I'll be 60 in June, and generally weigh between 155-158). I think walking provides the most enjoyment from the game, and it definitely keeps you warmer on the colder days here in PA. So keep it up man. Hopefully you'll get even greater enjoyment from the game by going 'old school,' and it's definitely good for your health. And "duble'" applies to me as well.
I have so much more fun walking by myself than renting a cart. It saves money, it's healthy, and I think it's the purest form of golf. Just you, your clubs, and the course (and maybe a camera).
I hooked the ball a lot. Two things I changed. First, check your left hand grip and make sure your left hand is rotated as far left as you can when you take your grip. This keeps from rotating further left as you swing. Second, I moved my from foot back about 1.5 inches after I’ve line up. This allows me to clear my hips easier and straightens my swing. Try ten balls on the driving range and see if that helps You too.
Your funny bro 😄 and not a bad golfer. Consistency is the key. And I'm not a pro by any means but i had a stretch of blocking drives out to the left. 90% of the time i was swinging too hard...idk just some food for thought. Keep it up bro you earned yourself a sub 👍
John Baker here... if you haven’t checked out my second channel for lifting here it is!!
let me know if i can help you out man. Love the video production and your passion for golf and self improvement!

Putting in work! I haven't golfed since October. Thanks for letting me enjoy your round

It was rough but worth it. It was a big accomplishment

Love ya
Just found your channel, but good for you man! Keep it up!
Thanks Bryan
Hang in there big man. Good video. Played the course many times. It's far from easy, especially in the wet & cold.
I am impressed - I hope you continue the walking. I subscribed. My only suggestion on the drives going left is to set up the ball so its centered more and not in front of your left foot...I have the same issue and I think its lack of flexibility causes my wrists to turn internally before hitting the ball
Keep walking bro! its one of the best parts of the game. Nice walk in a beautiful landscape playing the best game invented.
1:11 "I duff one here, you guys are used to that stuff that's nothing new" LMAO had me rolling! Subbed and Like!
Great Job John! Love your vids! first round of the season! you will get a lot better!
Just found ur channel and I love it!! Keep it up!👍
Looking good man man!! Keep up the hard work!!!! Swing is looking awesome!!!!!! Just quick hands is all!!! 💪💪
Good on ya for doing it keep doing it, it will get easier, enjoyed your vid keep up the hard work
Hell ya....9 holes walking! Let's get more of these big guy!
Good to see you back, John.
Good job John, walking is good for you.👍🏻
Keep it going man. The walking will do you good!
Love the walking. I'm down here in Florida, and for the most part they make you use carts. Love walking the course.
Good golf, great commentating. Keep it up John.
Every great journey starts with one single step, good on you bro really proud
Good to see you walking it man. I'm a walker and wouldn't have it any other way. Keep at it.
I have so much more fun walking by myself than renting a cart. It saves money, it's healthy, and I think it's the purest form of golf. Just you, your clubs, and the course (and maybe a camera).
great job john keep it up.
Cold, windy and the course being wet......tough conditions!! Well done, you survived.
Glad to see you on the course. Try moving ball back in your stance. It's a short term fix as ur swing changes during your weight loss
Try ten balls on the driving range and see if that helps
You too.
Just hit the 3wood and leave the driver in the bag. You’re an inspirational guy. Keep up the good work!
You go Baker! Keep going bro👊👊
This is my favorite video you have made!
love this stuff man. 1st video and subbed. you are hilarious sir.
Wow John it's a tough wet , walk for any man . Amazing . Congratulations and a shout out to your Bro's Shawn and Tim .
Your funny bro 😄 and not a bad golfer. Consistency is the key. And I'm not a pro by any means but i had a stretch of blocking drives out to the left. 90% of the time i was swinging too hard...idk just some food for thought. Keep it up bro you earned yourself a sub 👍
Loving this John, and so are thousands of other people ;)
Looking so much better man!
