- We're still stuck for things we can do on our own build until the tent is fixed (no word yet when that will be), but we are making great progress in the owner's hull of fairing and priming.
So while Matt spends a day back on our boat putting a fresh coat on primer on areas, I cross the bay to help my good friend Sophie on her wooden boat from Chesapeake Light Crafts. A nice summer runabout we'll all be able to enjoy this summer on the bay.
Ryan was off for the day handling business, but Sophie knew that between the two of us we'd be able to tackle all the things on her list for that day, including flipping the hull.
How does working on a wooden boat compare to working on a fiberglass boat? I spend the day finding out as we do longboard sanding, power sanding, and even mix up epoxy to add fillets (coves). It was a nice break away from my own work, and a fun way to experience a different kind of building.

I watched Tula build their boat here. Beautiful when finished as I'm sure this one will be. I hope things are moving along on a way to continue your project. Sophie looks fun to be around.
Billy and Sierra had invited us out to see their build as well, but unfortunately we weren't able to break away from our project back then. I'm really happy I was able to join Sophie for a day to see what CLC is all about.

I've lived here for 25 years and I can still get lost in Annapolis! That said, I had no idea CLC existed, that looks like a fun way to while away the chilly winter months AND have an awesome looking "toy" to show for it! Definitely going to look into this, since I've put my sailing plans on indefinite hold. Thanks Jessica & Sophie for showing me a new way to blow a bunch of $$$ LOL!
I hadn't heard of CLC until Tulas Endless Summer was there about a year ago. If we had some free time on our hands, I would definitely love to build something there. 🥰

We were really impressed with this build. Wondering where Sofie was these past weeks and now we know, will be great to see the final product. Remembering, when I worked at Northshore Boat Works, we called the filler, goop. Things change over the years, I gather. Thanks for sharing and hope to see more of this amazing spread.

Stitch it together with copper wire, then epoxy and fiberglass to hold it all together. My son built a small john boat using that technique.
Definitely a different process than how we're building ours. 😉. Maybe one day we'll get to do this for a sailing tender for ourselves!

In case you haven’t seen it already, I highly recommend Sailing Yabá. A young couple in Brazil is repairing a large boat to use as a platform for teaching scuba diving. They are helped by a bunch of older men who have built or repaired scores of boats using somewhat unconventional techniques. For instance establishing a waterline without using a laser level, not steaming any planks and a bunch or other interesting techniques!

Nice!! Took me nearly 11yrs to build my wooden boat with a buddy. It weighs a few tons and is almost impossible to take anywhere. Mainly because everyone will ask 100 questions about it.

24ft LOA powered by an Indmar fuel injected 5.7lt, 330hp. It's a twin cockpit design modelled after a Riva with seating for 7 people. When we met you guys at Annapolis in 22' we were just finishing up the project. On days when we don't have wind to sail our other boat, we can take out the loud beast.
It's great to see your videos are coming out again & hope the recovery from "the storm" is going well.
If you're looking for non boat work content since work is limited at present, personally, I would be curious to see a video where you discuss high level sequencing of projects (not a timeline but sequence). I'm sure it feels like you have a lot to do but some spaces like the settee aren't far off from being cushion ready while other areas need more work to completion. That said, as you work on the interior of the hulls I can't help but wonder when you'll put in the port lights & hatches, what you've decided for the finish carpentry like the interior doors, drawers, cabin sole, headliner, etc and at what point those projects can be worked on. Or at what point you'll start running electrical or plumbing rough. Not a timeline but a sequencing since so much of the work hinges on other work being completed first. I realize this is easier said than done given how much time, editing, and planning goes into each video but thought I'd suggest/ask out of curiosity.

Reminds me of building my PT11 nesting dinghy a few years ago!
How did yours turn out? Matt and I built a nesting dinghy 15 years ago and it was SO overweight from all the extra fairing and paint, haha.
I’m quite happy with it. Each half is about 45 lbs. I can launch at retrieve them from my foredeck by hand, though the bulkiness is still a challenge. Rows like a dream.
Where have you 2 gone? Are you leaving youtube? Is Matt having some type of trouble? You need to get focused on your catamaran and work way harder so you can finish it. Let us know so if your leaving youtube we can stop looking for you on Saturday. Sad to see this cat build going so slow, it's a matter of being focused and putting every available hour you 2 have into the build. I hope you come back and get seriously busy.
They've gone very quiet since the damage to their worksite. She mentioned insurance, so there is probably a lot of red tape to deal with.
