Remember, Anne Hathaway is an Oscar-winning actress while Lucy is a professional singer. Anne was in costume, shorn of hair, dying of TB and starvation in her movie version of "I Dreamed a Dream." She spoke, did not sing, the first stanza, as an actress might. Her "performance" has no peer, but the song itself is more beautifully rendered by Lucy. Mark, USA.

I loved every micro expression of her face. She just brought it all in this release.
The other thing is the breath you hear that brings the intimate nature of her singing just to you.
We are so lucky to have her at this time in the world.

This spectacular version of this world famous song, could not have been performed better! One of the few songs Lucy performs that shows sadness and despair. The way she uses her voice and the camera, allows her to portray the true meaning of the song. Just another masterpiece!

Hi Chris glad to see you got around to this your going to fall out of that chair one day. What a great performance by Lucy I beleve she is now untouchable the best female vocalist out there.I watched your reaction to Anne .And she did a strong emotional performance however it was more acting than singing and at the end of the day this is a musical and the song should be sung and I think Lucy did it perfectly as it should be done.personally I would prefer Lucy´s version if I was stuck on an Island.I am still at a loss about you and Lucy not looking at the camera.Lucy plays the camera perfectly she draws you into the song with her, one reactor said she looks right into your soul and when she looks away you just want her to look back at you because you you think she is signing directly to you.Any way Chris great reaction as always only 7 more days to her concert and I am excited already.Stay safe my friend and thanks for your continued support for Lucy.

I think it's a bit of North of England intonation more than Celtic!🙂,beautifully sung by Lucy,as good as anything she's performed though can't agree it's better than "Unchained melody" or "One moment in time",the comparison with Ann Hatheway's version which is undeniably moving was of course performed within the context of the film, both are wonderful in their own way!,also wouldn't agree that Lucy in her earlier days didn't use the camera as well as she does now!,I have been following her for the last six years & she has in my opinion always known how to perform if front of camera as she has as far as I know had a great interest in drama for a good # of years which shines through in all her performances!,apart from these points I agree with everything you say!😅

Thank you for reacting to another masterpiece by Lucy Thomas. After listening to Lucy, I listened to several performances including Anne Hathaway and Ruthie Henshall. In my opinion, Ruthie over sang the song with too much volume and not enough subtle voice techniques (vibrato, straight tones, etc). In my opinion, Anne overacted and sang very little. For me, the overacting keep the sadness and pathos from affecting me. Lucy is a master of using her eyes to signal different feelings to us such as remembering where one should look away. I cried hearing Lucy sing this. The emotion in her voice, in her expressions, in her eyes tell the story. Anne looked haggard and Lucy does not but, otherwise, I think that Lucy’s acting was superior. As for the singing, Lucy’s only competition is Lucy. I am taking a handkerchief because she is to sing this on stage and I know that she will bring me to tears yet again. Lucy is the best.

Hi Larry. Thanks for supporting Lucy. "Half the USA" will be at her concert the 22nd. Sadly it looks like there are an other of empty seats this time. Manchester and Tokyo were fully booked but not this one despite the promo by one of her fans? (Lucy Thomas - concert promo video made by Anita)
Wherever I hear you about awkward eyes she is contemplating/remembering/envisioning: see Hallelujah, The way we were, etc. She is absolutely not camera shy. Having said that, we share the awe and the goosebumps/chicken skin🥰. Did anyone tell you that Tokyo was a big success? That she left "Not a dry eye in the house"? And that there is talk about a Japanese tour?

Chris you DON'T have to pause the video, there's no copyright issues with Lucy's videos. Chris Broom, her mentor/producer creates these masterpieces as a promotional tool, to show the world who this remarkably talented young woman is. There are many reactors who play Lucy's videos all the way through without a single pause and then do a re-run with their comments. Your reaction to this performance is brilliant as usual and it's Great that you've been supporting Lucy on her remarkable journey. What will her voice be like at it's prime in ten years!!!

Look again at those earlier performances with the idea of contemplating/remembering/envisioning etc. because that's what she is communicating. Nothing awkward if you ask me. Regarding Lucy and "I Dreamed a Dream", I didn't care for it at first. So sad. However, after having watched many reactors, including yours, take on it, I am warming up to it. Lucy's beautiful voice cannot be beat. Her vibrato and the rich fullness of her expressive voice across her entire range is World Class. Elegant sadness. Thanks Chris. Kit

This is an amazing performance. Very emotional. You seem to have a fixation about Lucy not looking at the camera. It's called acting. It's got nothing to do with being shy or anything like that. I remember very well your reaction to Lucy’s Hallelujah where you said again something about the way she looks at the camera. Not only I completely disagree with you, sorry man, but I still think the way she interacts with the camera in all her videos is as good as her vocals. Just lovely, in my humble opinion.. Otherwise, good and very passionate reaction, as always, well done.

It's a question of taste, obviously, but I detested Ann Hathaway's performance. Like most of the songs in that film, the 'emotion' was completely overdone. Here, Lucy starts off reflectively, in tune with the lyrics, brings out the despair as the song moves on and finishes with great sadness. At all times, she is reflecting the words she is singing, which is how emotion SHOULD be used. Bravo, Lucy. Truly beautiful.

    • @johnbattles1002

I’ve commented this to Chris before. Lucy is a stage actress and is destined to deliver a mind-blowing performance of “Rosie”soon. As a stage actress, she has learned (and I believe also has a natural-born instinctiveness) to “act” with her eye movements , her gaze, her lookaways, her furtive glances, her eyelid closures, etc., as well as with her many-nuanced hand, arm, face, and body movements. With all these things combined with a voice from heaven itself, Lucy is a master story teller, actress, and vocalist, par excellence, bar none! I really like Chris both as a nice, intelligent person and as a fine reactor. I just wish he could understand these things about Lucy. In my opinion, similar to Angelina Jordan, Lucy has NEVER been camera shy, but utilizes the camera, her surroundings, her props, her clothing choices, etc., in each video to her utmost advantage. She is simply a genius!

  • @danielschwartz354

You crack me up... in a good way. Your facial reactions and comments are the whole point of watching a reaction as opposed to the original.
I have to disagree about Anne though. I was in the minority who didn't think that version of Les Miz was a disaster and actually enjoyed the performances for what they were. I recently watched her clip from the movie. She is acting a part (some say she over did it) and the singing is secondary. She's basically a talented amateur. Her interpretation had her speaking some of the word rather than singing. Outside the context of the entire film there is no world in which I'd choose to watch that again instead of Lucy.
