I've posted the following on a couple of my favourite reactors' sites just to share my views on Lucy's fantastic performance yesterday in London: I had the privilege of seeing Lucy in concert at the amazing Theatre Royal Drury Lane yesterday evening. What a stunning performance from Lucy in a gorgeous setting supported by a wonderful orchestra, pianist James Breck and by her sister Martha , Will Callan and Milan Van Waardenburg. I have to say that this is the first concert I've been to where the artist received a standing ovation as she walked onto the stage! If it's possible, Lucy is even more spectacular singing live than in her videos. In front of a wildly enthusiastic (near) full house, Lucy spoke warmly, articulately and with some humour of how much her West End debut meant to her and how grateful she was to her fans for their support over the years. She seemed genuinely humbled by the fact that she was approaching 1 million subscribers on her UA-cam channel and it was clear that she was moved by all the love she received from the audience. In the first half of the show, Lucy reprised some of her biggest UA-cam 'hits', including Hallelujah, which she acknowledged as her breakthrough song, Moon River and this song, I Dreamed a Dream from Les Mis. For me, her duet with Martha on When you Believe and her rendition of Don't Cry for me Argentina, were particular highlights. Lucy seemed amused that Martha just walked off the stage after her performance rather than basking in the warm applause and standing ovation from the audience! The second half of the show was given over to songs from Lucy's forthcoming musical, Rosie with an accompanying narration by Michael Dunn. Again, Lucy demonstrated her amazing vocal abilities, bringing each song to life. These included poignant renditions of Gentle Breeze and Broken Dreams a superb duet with Will Callan on Above the Clouds and, for her finale, We Can Change the World for which they were joined on stage by Martha, Will and Milan. The rapturous standing ovations Lucy received after this finale and again after her encore, were testament to the quality of the concert in general and of her performance in particular and reflected the warm affection her fans have for this supremely gifted singer.
The most moving line Lucy sings is the last one: “Life has killed the dream I dreamed” Her voice drops or tightens to a whisper on the word “killed”, imbuing the word with so much raw emotion 😥
I agree. I may have quoted the line wrong (I'll have to go back and listen again), but that was the line I was referencing. Loved this. Thanks for watching!
You are a great reactor of Lucy. Every time Lucy puts out another video I wait for your reaction. I have seen Les Miserable. Pronounced “ lay misser awb “ I think. That is the great thing about musicals. The song means so much more when you get involved with a character and they sing about the situation they are in. It has been a while since I saw this musical , but her character has a little daughter and they are living on the street. Pretty terrible life. She sure sings this song with all the emotion. Especially that last line , you can see it in her face and especially her eyes. So yes you should go to musicals and especially “Rosie” if and when they get it going. Lucy will be in the starring role and she has some really great songs to sing. I saw your very first reaction to Lucy when she sang “ La vie en Rose”. I could tell you were hooked. I have listened to every reaction that you have done of Lucy. Can’t wait for the next Lucy video and your reaction
Bob, at the very end , even though it's sad the way she handled the last line was beautiful. She held the long note, then added her fantastic vibrato, and watching closely you see her mouth close to put the "ed" from dreamed. An example of her excellent diction, actually finishing words and phrases.
What was the prodigy.....is now already the queen. This girl projects songs better than anyone i've ever seen. Her ability to grasp what is required in a song is off the scale.
For me, Lucy's most emotional performance yet. She moved from reflection, through pain, to sadness, in perfect sync with the song's lyrics. Breathtaking.
You do some of the best reactions to Lucy Thomas! Thank you! You accurately described the emotion of this song. “Les MIs” is arguably one of the best musicals ever produced. The character Lucy portrays is a woman with a young child and no husband. She was just fired from her job and will be thrown on the street with her child to starve. This all takes place just before the French Revolution. You can hear the cry and anguish in Lucy’s voice. Lucy sacrificed power for emotion. Quite extraordinary!
How do us mere mortals get to hear this angel. There is Lucy at the top and then right behind her there is, let me see, no one. She is so far ahead of every other singer on the planet EVERYONE struggles to explain her performances. I accepted months ago there are no words that can do the job so I quit trying. So fun to watch reactors try though.
Great reaction. You are spot on with your comments. Holding a long note before adding the vibrato is pretty much a trademark of her style of singing, which shows her perfect pitch. Some singers add the vibrato early because it covers their inability to hold a long note without it wavering. Another key point that you pointed out is the way Lucy builds the anticipation by starting so many songs in a gentle tone before gradually building up to the climax. I too have used the term ethereal, when listening to this cover. Some of her notes in the first verse are magical and almost instrumental in their quality. And, also like you, I love the low and the soft notes she produces which often give so much better meaning to the lyrics. ❤
Hi again Bob. There are so many wonderful songs from Les MIs. It’s really 1 of the best musicals ever. I hope Lucy sings more songs from this show. And her low notes, as you said, are amazing. Just listen to Unchained Melody and you’ll see why. Another masterpiece from her here.
Nice reaction Bob. Those straight notes produce a powerful sad emotion thzts then followed by that perfect vibrato. This is without doubt one of, if not the best rendition of this piece, that iv'e ever heard. How does she manage to do this to every song she covers. A true vocal genius.
Hi Bob.So glad that you were able to get around to this.Great reaction Bob I agree with everthing you have said .This is from Les Mis.and Lucy is portraying the tragic life of Fantine a young woman who becomes pregnant loses her Job and the father of the Baby she has to sell herself to pay off a couple of cooks to look after her child she eventually dies on the streets and this song is where Fantines is looking back on her life. Lucy sings this song as it should be sung with empathy, many people scream it out and over do it.Lucy is able to live the song and make you feel it with her.Lucy´s vocals are master class and Lucy´s voice just keeps getting better .I believe she is the best female vocalist of this generation. I will be going to the concert in London and will let you know how it went. Thanks for your continued support for Lucy Bob.Stay safe
Hallo Bob! 🧳✈🎉🇩🇪
This is a famous and iconic song sung by a tragic character whose life ends in the most awful and humiliating way. The character is Fantine and for simplicity, the musical is widely known as Les Mis ( pronounced as “lay miz”). Lucy captures all of the emotion, the grief, the despair, the humiliation. In fact, she is nearly brought to tears as she lives and breathes this song’s powerful message. Thanks again Bob for your wonderful reaction and analysis. By the way Bob,I will be going to the London Concert. I am flying all the way from Adelaide just to see and hear Lucy perform.
@@henkhessel3651 the M and G sold out in no time. I am fortunate to have a ticket to it. It’s sad that the concert ticket sales have been much more sluggish.
better singing than in the movie in the theater, it is a piece full of lyrics and drama and Lucy is the queen of not only low and high sounds but also vocal space
Her video of this on UA-cam already has reached 1,000,000 views in just 3 weeks. Wish I could travel to the UK to see her in concert next week, but hopefully some day she might do some performances here in the U.S. Thanks for sharing.
Hello Bob yes " I Dreamed A Dream, is just such a sad song from the show " Les Miserables " a play from the French Revolution, Lucy sang this song as it was supposed to be sung, her voice range is just so magnificent she can carry these big songs as good as anybody. So far since she made this cover just over 3 weeks ago Lucy has over 1 million views on UA-cam she is just so amazing. Take care Barbara.
Modern Life for the 70's Mind - Bob, the English lyrics were written by Herbert Ketzmer. Anne Hathaway sang this song in the movie of Les Misérables that stars Hugh Jackman and so many others. IT is a wonderful movie! You should watch it so you know the setting in which they are sung, so you know the next time you listen to a cover of them by anyone.

Another great, heartfelt reaction, Bob. Christopher already covered the backstory for the song. I’ll point out that many of the performances (to include Anne Hathaway in the most recent movie version) are angry. Lucy steers away from that angle and gives us all the sadness, and hurt, and pleading despair without anger. Simply the most deeply touching performance of the song I’ve ever seen or heard. Just incredible. Thanks Bob, for another fantastic reaction. You probably don’t consider yourself eloquent, but you really do say all the right things and always hit the nail on the head. I have two tickets on the floor near the stage for next Tuesday’s concert. I’m not flying in from Australia though, just the US east coast. Can’t wait!! -Jon
